Chapter 1 - Peaceful Yesterday

Things were still okay then... Until what was known as D-day happened. Let's start all over from the beginning.

To begin with, there are many marks. They are the common but cool marks of Invisibility, Illusion, shadow, and Levitation. There are also rarer marks like the marks of Flame, Frost, Rain, Life(Nature), Wind, Earth(Ground), and Light(Lightning). There's also the forbidden Skull mark. But I'd rather have a skull mark than what I have... The void. The mysterious mark where the people die at an early age and nothing is known about us.. me as it's the rarest mark. And I wish that I never got it. But... as long as I have 3 people in my life, I'm happy. They are, Violet, the literal best friend anyone and I mean anyone can ask for. She isn't pushy and always stands up for her friends and has the mark of flame, Alcryst, is a kind boy who is always cautious and cares about people's boundaries and has the mark of frost. Both Violet and Alcryst are different like night and day, but we have been friends forever. And finally... there's Aqua. The Student Council president and the dreamiest... I mean the coolest boy that every girl likes. I mean... except for Violet but, you get my point. His mark is the mark of rain( If it isn't obvious enough from his name).

I was walking down the long hallway of Westford Academy when out of the blue, a card came flying towards my face at lightning speed, I barely had the time to dodge it. (Thankfully) Alcryst helped me catch it from behind before passing it to me. While Violet flashed a cold glare towards the 3 bullies, hands akimbo, Lyra, Lyn, and Sasha." Come to our beach party later. All 3 of you, by the way... Aqua is coming." lyra smirked before the trio sashayed away in sync. (Somehow) "Can we go!" Violet pleaded with puppy eyes. " I mean you two can go without me..." I started wearily. "No! It won't be fun without you!" Alcryst chimed in." Only you two can convince me to do stupid things like this. I'm in!" I sighed. "YAY!" Violet squealed clapping her hands like a child, while Alcryst smiled warmly. "Thanks." Alcryst smiled. I nodded as a response.

Before the beach party

"Vi!!! What do I wear??!!!" I cried. We both knew I desperately wanted to impress Aqua but I thought that he would never notice me. "This or that." I continued gesturing to different outfits. Violet, AKA my fashion instructor, went about flipping through my closet like a madwoman. "Try this on," Violet said cheekily, handing me a set of clothing. I gestured for her to leave( for obvious reasons ) "Call me if you need me!" Violet exclaimed. I nodded my head before gently pushing her out of our dorm room. (Although... I could have just gone into the bathroom now that I think of it...) I put it on and the strange combination of tie-dyed shirt to ripped jeans somehow fit perfectly. " Vi is really a fashion queen," I muttered to myself. "Vi, you can come in," I said opening the door for her. "So???" Violet grinned. "You win. Count me impressed." I grinned rolling my eyes. "Let's go meet Alcryst!" Violet dragged me to Alcryst's (Al) dorm room which is right across ours. "You ready yet Al? "Violet asked, barging into Alcryst's room without knocking.

"Ah wait!"Alcryst slammed the door shut to ensure that Violet didn't enter but to no avail. The scene in front of Violet was not very pretty, Alcryst was standing behind the door half naked and his shirt was covering his neck. "Oh fuck's sake. I need bleach to bleach out my eyes." I muttered, covering my eyes with my hands. Violet's face turned beet red and tried apologizing profusely before slamming the door right onto Alcryst's face. Shortly after the trauma, Alcryst walked out.

"Umm... Yuki? You know you can stop covering your eyes right?" Alcryst reminded. I slowly peeked out from a tiny gap in my hand before fully removing my hand completely. "Let's go!" Violet cheered as if nothing ever happened.

At the beach

"So you did come." Lyra sneered. "Have fun!" Lyn smirked. I instantly saw Aqua's tall and lean body as the beach was quite empty as we were early. Just as I was approaching Aqua, Lyra, Lyn, and Sasha stepped in front of me and dragged me to a corner. "You think Aqua is ever going to talk to you? Dream on!" Lyra snarled. I gulped anxiously before walking the other way, dejected. When it was more crowded, Violet, Alcryst and I were separated. I was aimlessly stumbling around hoping to find them when I accidentally bumped into... Aqua?!"Aqua... I am so sorry... I swear I didn't see you!" I rambled. "It's alright." Aqua smiled charmingly. I blushed before making a lame excuse to leave. Out of the blue(literally), The three bullies appeared. "We saw you talking to Aqua!" Sasha growled. "Sasha, don't waste your time. Let's go for a swim okay Yuki?" Lyn continued grinning. Shit... I can't swim. I am panicking what the hell do I do???

Before I could come up with another bad excuse, they dragged me towards the sea.

"YUKI! There you are. " Violet waved for my attention screaming. "What are they doing?" Alcryst questioned glaring at the bullies. "Nothing!" The three all said at once with fake cheery smiles. "Sure..." Alcryst trailed off. "Of you go!" Lyn said shooing my saviors away. Nooooo! I groaned inwardly. They threw me into the sea's deep end where I struggled to stay afloat. I was flailing my arms around rapidly while accidentally swallowing big gulps of the salty seawater. I was choking but I also had to focus on trying not to die of drowning. What a fun day. The three bullies just swam off. I was blacking out by the moment. Right before I lost consciousness, I saw a figure swimming towards me strongly. I didn't get to see what happened as I died. (Or so I thought).

Aqua POV

Shit... She might die. I need to bring her to shore quickly. I dragged her limp body slowly to the shore. While lifting her off the ground, my dormmate, Alcryst, and.... who I recognized to be Violet dashed over. "What the fuck did you do to her!" Violet shoved me hard. "Wait... It's not me. She was drowning. She needs help, move aside." I replied before performing CPR on her hoping to see some life. After a long steady beat of chest compressions, she started coughing out water.

Present

"Nng... Where am I?" I asked as my eyes were extremely bleary. I saw 3 distinct figures. 2 that I could recognize as Violet and Alcryst. The last one... Was that Aqua?! "What the!" I sat up, soaking wet from head to toe.

"Good that you're finally awake. I was getting worried." Aqua sighed while Violet hugged me tightly almost choking me. "You stupid idiot! Don't scare me like that anymore!" She raged. I hugged back as tightly with a grin. "I won't. I promise." I assured her the best I could. Aqua draped a dry towel across my shoulders. Even I didn't notice that I was freezing and shuddering. I muttered a quick thanks. "Let me bring you back to the dorm. I don't want to stay anyway." Aqua offered. I nodded smiling crookedly. Violet and Alcryst also volunteered to follow behind which I also greatly appreciated. We all walked home silently and awkwardly. When we reached the academy, we all decided to relax a little at Alcryst's and Aqua's dorm room. There, I returned Aqua's now wet towel which was draped over my shoulders like a cape." Thanks." I whispered to Aqua, still shuddering. "No problem. Think nothing of it." He replied nonchalantly. Me and Violet left at 11 p.m. sharp to go to bed after bidding our goodbyes.

I slept, filled with warmth although I almost died(Literally).

The next day, Lunch break

Yuki's POV

"We want to talk to you on the rooftop. Now." Lyra's voice was different today. More menacing than her usual. I obliged as I did not want any more trouble. "You think you're so cool 'cause Aqua saved you right? Don't get too happy." Lyra continued on the rooftop. Got it... Jealousy acting again. I nodded before trying to leave only to get held back by Lyra. "You think you can get away scot-free?" Her voice threatened menacingly. I shrugged weakly slowly backing away.

With a quick swish of her hand, Lyra summoned five big and hungry looking five Hellhounds. I knew those were illusions as that was Lyra's mark but it all just seemed too real to be fake. They slowly approached while I backtracked focused only on the Hellhounds. Deep and intimidating snarls escaped their mouths as they bared their sharp fangs at me, back hunched high. "Now now... don't kill me little wolfie..." I started, before getting rudely interrupted by an unnerving howl that hung in the air. I continued backing away, "SHIT!" I yelped in shock, I had slipped as I was stupidly too close to the damned roof edge. I clung on to the edge for dear life, heart pounding so loudly. While the Hellhounds approached, my hands were sweaty, making me slip, almost falling. I was screaming for help by now, yet... Lyra, Lyn, and Sasha were all looking at me coldly, smiling in a way that I had never seen before, that smile sent chills down my spine just thinking of it.

I suddenly heard a loud 'Bang' from the door. Violet kicked down the door, Alcryst close behind her. That shocked all three bullies, Sasha, reacting fastest, sent a wave of mud toward Violet and Alcryst, Alcryst swiftly shot an arrow infused with ice toward the mud, freezing it. Violet smashed her axe through the frozen mud, shattering it into a million tiny pieces. Lyn used her levitation powers, rapidly swinging the door as if it were a shield, while Sasha continuously shot boulders at my two friends. Violet said some words to Alcryst which I couldn't quite hear as I was focusing on trying not to die(Yet again). Once Violet was done, Alcryst sprinted toward me, nimbly dodging the boulders. As he held tight onto my hand and pulled me up, Violet elbowed Lyra hard in the ribs, causing her to stumble, making the illusions disappear.

"What is going on here." A voice bellowed as I was climbing back up onto the building. Everyone turned, AQUA???!! I guess they were making quite a commotion. Violet instantly kept her axe as if nothing happened. Lyn and Sasha dropped the objects they were holding. An awkward silence filled the air as we all glanced back at him. Aqua saw me half dangling from the building and approached, helping me up completely. "So... someone going to tell me why Yuki is hanging off the edge of the roof?" He asked, eyebrows furrowed.

"That's our cue to leave!" Lyra announced running off, Lyn and Sasha trailing closely behind. "Sorry?" Violet offered, and I facepalmed hard at her response. "Tell me what happened." Aqua clarified, somehow, he seemed more worried than mad. "Will you believe me if I said that I slipped off the edge of the roof?" I made a wild excuse. "Please be honest. I know that did not happen. Tell the truth and I can take action." He stared deep into my eyes. "They were... Jealous. And they tried to kill me again." I instantly covered my mouth with my hand, eyes widening. I accidentally said what I wasn't supposed to. "AGAIN! "Aqua, Violet and Alcryst all turned their heads to face me. I nodded wearily. "You mean the drowning incident yesterday?" Violet asked, voice raising. I nodded once more with a sheepish look. Violet had steam gushing out of her ears by now. "Let's head to the cafeteria and continue this conversation. "I hurriedly made an attempt to calm the raging Violet down.

Upon reaching the cafeteria, we were absolutely dumbfounded at how empty it was."... Did lunch end?" Alcryst asked. Checking his watch, Aqua gave a quick reply "No. Let's check the classrooms." We all nodded our heads in agreement.

We ran to the nearest classroom and barged in. "There's no one here..." Violet pointed out. The classroom was one sight to behold. It was quiet, eerie, dark, and ominous. There were only messily scattered tables, chairs, and stationery. Not a single trace of life, it sent shivers down my spine. "Where to now?" I asked. There were creases on Aqua's forehead, worry was clearly plastered all over his face. " This is odd... Let's check the field. Maybe there was some fire drill." Aqua suggested, still concerned about the scene that lay in front of us. I looked back hesitantly before shaking the feeling that something was extremely odd.

At the field

"No one..." The etch on Aqua's forehead grew deeper. We looked at each other, silently looking at the abnormal sight. The majestic field was empty, just like the classroom. Just then, a buzz was emitted from all our phones. It was a rather strange buzz, unlike the normal vibration, there was an alarm sounding like a siren. Alcryst instantly whipped out his smartphone and checked the news.

"Guys...promise not to Panick when you hear this." He announced with visible anxiety. "What?" We all asked him, turning to him. Alcryst took a deep breath and showed us his phone. "This..."
