Chapter 32 - The Number Five volume thirty two

A door was locked in from the other side of the building, the shuffle of feet. I was still very concerned for what I've just done, wondering what in the actual fuck. realizing that if something was to upset these people I would have no chance of surving. The woman that was behind the desk came around the corner drenched in sweat, carrying a very thick book. the book was odd and the pages had different sizes, the cover of the book was nothing. no title, no colorful design, no a single detail to notify the reader what the book is about. My guide started shaking uncontrollably " I haven't seen that book since the registration of Shakooth", after the word Shakooth left his mouth. the other started mumbling it, my nerves got even worse. for the life of me I can't keep a low profile, well I hope it isn't as shocking as Darkouls was for me. She opened the book quickly flipping through pages, she got to the part of the book where. only half of the page was filled, as she started reading the less confused I've become. " if you are reading this section of the book, be aware that this is not for the public to know. as we know that this power we know very little of, but what we do know is that who ever possess this magic. is an treat, the only beings we know who possess this magic. Are demons, and dark mages. if they are not either for the sake of humanity figure out what this magic is.". I started laughing out loud, thinking it was some kind of game. I was the only one laughing. As my guide began to speak the doors creked open, a tall figure emerged from the light. once the light vanished a man with no facial hair, with a red cross on his armor piece. he slowly approached the desk, the others quickly started mumbling about him. I didn't notice before he had a sack on his back it seems to be full, he tapped my guide on the shoulder. " he is done registering", his voice almost matched mine. they way he approached the desk he seemed to me an high and might kinda of guy. the girl behind the desk slung the book across the room, while twisting her hair. " welcome back Jim, how was the quest", as he leaned forward to drop off his sack. A diamond necklace comes out of the shadows of his clothes, a thought ran through my mind. " I wonder if I stole that necklace so I could get a pretty penny for it", my guide so the desperate look on my face, putting his forearm into my chest." Stop!, you're new to this but he is the second highest ranked adventurer ever to exist". the girl took out a bunch of herbs from his bag, gave Jim a shit ton of coins for it. he turned to face me. he didn't seem to be harmful at all just maybe misunderstood just like me, staring into his eyes. his eyes should a trouble past almost the same as I, " my name is Marcus, can I join you on a quest?". the air was sucked out of the room, he started chucking tears going down his cheeks. when he finally stopped laughing his response was nothing I expected, " Man I would love to have a party!". we shooked each other's hand to make the party official. " Follow me, Marcus". I wasn't confused on how he knew my name, I mean he could have glanced at the paperwork. Before there was a board with several papers stapled onto the board, he explained that every piece of paper on this board was a quest. I blurted out " how come there are no requirements for these quests?", his took a silent exhale." there used to be requirements, that was eight years ago. they got rid of them cause we used to have a lot of rookies, so more quest came in was good. they problem was that the quest requirement was for adventurer's for statues of sliver or higher. all of the newbies like yourself was non ran. so they got rid of them to keep the newbies in the guild, with that being said all most all of the younger adventures died due to this rule change.". the dots all started to connect now, all the younger people that's supposed to be walking around. they are all in the grave," that's so sad, I mean how come the other adventures tried to over rule this!". his answer was just plain cold. " why?, why should we complain about the past?, will it undue what has done. look I've lost just as much as everyone else, death is just a unavoidable choice.". he turned back to the board looking at quest to due, it was taking him a long time to chose one. I mean I can kinda figure that out, it's pretty simple a non rank newbie. plus with the history of Daragain he doesn't want to see such a new face, buried under before experiencing a real adventure. he grabbed two quests from the board, made his way back to me. the quest was placed in the palms of my hands. both quest seemed like a retrieval ones, it's pretty odd that a adventure of his status would choose such a easy quest to do. I can't argue with him, he does have more experience than me. due to the circumstances I'm in I need to get a place to set up new clothes so I can somewhat fit in. Jim took the lead towards my first quest, I was stopped by the girl behind the desk. " Marcus!, come here real quick", her tone made me worry a little bit. I approached the desk, while her teeth were chittering. " be very careful with Jim, he never has done a quest with anyone. try not to get attached to him, he has lost too many already.".
