Chereads / Sunshine High / Chapter 47 - Valentine's Day

Chapter 47 - Valentine's Day

Almost making it to the garage, Laura managed to park the car without any scratches on John's car.

"Oh thank God I made it back." Laura gets out of the car and sneaks back into the living room.

She tiptoed her way on the couch pretending as if nothing happened. After sitting on the white couch, she sighed as she thought of John not being suspicious of her.

[However, nothing can avoid John's sight]

"Are you relaxed?" John appeared behind her.

"Oh my goodness. Babe! How are you doing my sweet little…" Laura was interrupted as John threw her to the ground.

"What the hell did you do to my car?!" John gets angry at her.

"N-Nothing! It's in the garage like always!"

"Really? Then where was my fucking car earlier today! You know I drive from home to school and it was so pathetic of me to walk home like those retards! So what did you do to my car?!"

Laura was slowly shaking as she couldn't handle the yelling that she's been enduring for so long.

"I-I was just getting you a Valentine's Day gift for you tomorrow. Since it's our special day tomorrow, I wanted to surprise you so I took your car and try to buy the best gift that I could think of!"

"Teh. How can a stupid girl like you can drive a car I stole from that stupid old bitch who tried to insult me?"

"So John. Do you mind if we can meet up at your locker for Valentine's Day? I got something wonderful that you might like."

"Whatever." John rolled his eyes.

"HOORAY! I can't wait to show the other cheerleaders about our relationship! They are going to be so jealous!"

"Sure. Just get out of my sight." John politely asked Laura.

"Okay! I'll head to bed early." Laura running upstairs.

John sat on the couch sleep deprived still planning to kill John.

"My God. This bitch is such a pain in my ass. Why won't she just leave me alone?"

John headed to the refrigerator to get himself a beer. "At the same time, I can't get Jonathan out of my head."

He headed back to the couch, opening the beer cap with his pure strength. "This is all Scott's fault. If he didn't try to kill Troy, then Jonathan's body would still be in top shape and his voice wouldn't be in my head. If Scott is dead, then I can rebuild my fairytale and send Scott's friends to either their death or put them back into their senses."

"Scott, when I'm done building this, I will seek my revenge and take back what's mine." John breaks his beer bottle with his bare hands.

The next day, the school was filled with romance with couples being everywhere Scott went. He saw that some were making out in their lockers, giving chocolates or flowers, and students just enjoying the time of their lives.

Not really caring about dating and romantic relationships, Scott just wanted to help his friends and to take a break from the mysteries of the town.

Approaching Stelle and Kate, they were both holding hands as well as giving them heart shaped chocolate boxes to each other.

"Happy Valentine's Day!" Scott waved at them as they waved back.

"Guys!" Scott jogging towards Natalie and Jim.

"Hey Scott." Jim and Natalie spoke at the same time.

"Happy Valentine's Day!"

"Happy Valentine's Day to you too Scott." Natalie having a poem in her hands.

"Jim. Although we're still friends, it doesn't mean I can write this poem for you."

"Thanks Natalie. I built this fidgeting toy for you to help you think and express yourself properly. Studies show that fidgeting toys do tend to help others focus." Jim hands Natalie a sphere like a fidgeting toy.

"Oh Scott, another thing." Jim brings out a cupid-like arrow from his bag.

"Give this to Dwayne. Since he's probably too stupid and forgetful to give Isabelle a gift, I thought I might improvise."

"Jim. It's Valentine's day. I told you about this too many times, when will your thing with Dwayne end? You guys are both great for who you are." Scott took the arrow.

"But I hope you guys enjoy each other!" Scott left Natalie and Jim.

"See ya!"

Meanwhile, Laura had a box of chocolates, a teddy bear half the size of her, and a bouquet of flowers waiting for John at his locker on the fourth floor.

"Happy Valentine's Day Laura!" The cheerleading squad came towards her.

"Happy Valentine's Day girls!"

"Are those for John?!"

"Of course it is Amy!"

"Aw I'm jealous! I wish I had a boyfriend. So me and your boyfriend can go on a double date!"

"No problem Marilyn! So how are you guys going to celebrate Valentine's Day? I mean it's hard since you girls don't have boyfriends."

"But Laura. I do have a boyfriend." one of her cheerleading members replied.

"Really? Who is that Jenny?" Laura slowly looked at Jenny.

"Well you see, my boyfriend isn't from here, but instead in another town in Iowa. Whenever we have the time, we both like to face each other and hope to meet in person once the school year is over!" Jenny brings out her phone pointing at it.

Walking towards Jenny, Laura snatched the phone and slammed it hard into the ground breaking the screen.

"Laura?" Jenny picked up her broken phone.

"Now I'm the only one in our squad who has a boyfriend now."

"Laura what was that? You shouldn't have broken my phone."

"Well I did that because remember phones aren't allowed in school."

"Yeah, but that doesn't give you the right to smash my phone."

"What's gotten into you Laura. You've been acting like a jerk recently." Marilyn on Jenny's side.

"A jerk? What do you mean? I was doing the right thing about not having any phones on the campus."

"Not about that, but for the past few months ever since those dancers took our spot, you;ve been acting very aggressively towards us."

"Well guess what. I can do whatever I want! I'm John's girlfriend, you girls shouldn't be having one besides me because I'm the princess of this school!" Laura arguing with her cheerleading squad.

"You think you're the only one with a relationship? Some of us have boyfriends too ya know. The difference between you and us is that we don't brag about it like you do."

"What." Laura getting a bit angry.

"And even if we don't, we're still happy to be with friends around us. Because friends support us no matter what."

"But you guys are my friends! So why aren't you guys supporting me?"

"Laura, what you did to Jenny's phone was the last straw. You think of John so much that you don't even think about your friends. If you think John is the only person you'll ever love besides us, then I think it's best that we aren't friends anymore." The cheerleading team then walked away from Laura.

"Another thing Laura. Once our season is over in a couple of weeks, then we'll decide whether you should stay in the cheerleading team or not." Jenny walked away with her broken phone.

"You can't do that! I'm the princess of Sunshine High! I'm the captain of the cheerleading team! What makes you guys think of kicking me out of the team!"

Everybody looked at Laura as what happened caused a big scene between her and the other cheerleaders.

"What are you guys looking at!" Laura yelled at others around her as they went back to their business,

"Whatever. I'll just wait for John and surprise him here." Laura is waiting for John.

Back to Scott, he approaches Dwayne as he's panicking, throwing stuff out of his locker.

"Come on, where is it? The gift that I brought her." Dwayne is panicking.

"Hey Dwayne. Happy Valentine's Day!"

"Hey Scott. What are you doing here?"

"Well Jim wanted me to give this to you since he knew you couldn't bring Isabelle a gift."

"Well I did. It's just that I bought her this gift last week and now I can't find it because of my messy locker."

"Dwayne. Just take it. She's coming right after you."

Dwayne looked on his right and saw that Isabelle was approaching him.

"Oh crap." Dwayne took the arrow from Scott's hand.

"Isabelle!" Dwayne quickly put the arrow behind his back.

Isabelle waved back.

"Happy Valentine's Day! I knew we only knew each other for a week, but I got you this." Dwayne handed Isabelle the cupid arrow.

"Uh. Since you are practicing your archery and now starting to get the hang of it, I think you deserve to have a personal arrow!" Dwayne made an excuse for her gift.

Not saying anything, Isabelle ran towards Dwayne and gave him a big hug.

"Wow, I never knew giving you this arrow meant a lot."

"Dwayne, it's not about the arrow, but how much you were there for her. I think she likes you for supporting her while on her most nerve racking moments."

"Alright then." Dwayne is now carrying Isabelle.

"Thanks Scott. Tell Dwayne that maybe it's best to end this debate and let us be our own unique selves."

"That's the spirit!" Scott walked away from Dwayne as him and Isabelle were enjoying each other.

Walking towards the water fountain to get a drink, Scott was grabbed by someone from behind.

"What the hell?!" Scott being pulled by someone.

"Hey." Liam waved at Scott.

"Who are you? Why did you grab me?" Scott pulled his arm away from Liam.

Scott then notices he was wearing a varsity basketball jacket.

"You're one of them. What does Drake want from me? Are you going to finish his job?"

"First of all, I don't know what happened to the rest of the basketball team and secondly, I'm not here to fight, I want to talk."

"Why would I talk to you? Your team tried to kill me."

"I have nothing to do with them. Drake and the other guys are far gone mentally. I never wanted to be part of the team. John forced me to be part of it because of how he saw my skills in the middle of the night while being on the basketball court."

"Of course he did." Scott now believes in Liam.

"My name is Liam Olsen. I assume you are Bryan's friend since I see you hangout with him a lot."

"Yeah, what about it?"

"Well you see, I have a crush on him. I know it sounds awkward to you but I know that homosexuality isn't allowed in this school after what happened to the one student who dressed up as a woman."

"No Liam. I think it's nice to be gay. I've seen two girls who I assume dating each other but try to make it a secret. Personally, I'm helping my other friends with their Valentines."

"Really? Then would you mind taking me to Bryan? I have to confess to him." Liam asked Scott.

Smiling, Scott shook his head in favor of supporting him and Bryan.

"However, I'm scared. What if John finds out and does something to us?"

"Don't worry Liam. I got an idea." Scott took his phone out of his pocket.

As Dwayne celebrates with Isabelle, he receives a text

Hey Dwayne, can you bring all the students on the second floor near the library, I think we're going to surprise Bryan

Looking at the text, Dwayne went in the middle of the hallway.

"HEY EVERYONE! THIS IS THE CAPTAIN OF THE FOOTBALL TEAM HERE!"

Everyone looked at Dwayne.

"LISTEN UP! WE GOT A PROPOSAL FOR THIS VALENTINE'S DAY. MY FRIEND NEEDS US. SINCE YOU GUYS SUPPORTED US IN OUR SEASON, I HOPE YOU GUYS CAN HELP ONE OF MY FRIENDS IN RETURN! SO WHO'S WITH ME?!"

Many people who were near Dwayne all clapped and cheered as they were ready to follow him. The word spreaded towards every student in the hallways to the classrooms and spreaded to the different floors. Few became many, many became a bunch, bunch became a dozen, and dozen became an army of students following Dwayne. Isabelle, meanwhile, was being help by Dwayne fearing she might get stampede by the crowd.

Meanwhile, Laura waited for John.

[But he never showed up]

"Oh John. Where are you, prince charming?" Laura's hands are starting to get tired from holding all the chocolates, flowers and teddy bear.

Suddenly, she noticed that a bunch of students were approaching her.

"Oh my GOSH! Don't tell me they are here to support me before John comes!"

However, the students passed her as they were helping Dwayne form a crowd.

"W-What the heck! Don't they know who I am!" Laura followed the crowd.

"Holy crap. Did Dwayne really bring almost half of the students of this school to help Bryan?" Jim is being crushed by the students heading towards Dwayne.

"Yeah. I guess his brawn got the best of your brain this time." Natalie being with Jim as she and him were getting crushed.

At the edge of the school, Bryan was putting some books into his bag from his locker.

"Bryan!" Scott yelled his name.

"Hey Scott."

"So Bryan. I've met someone and I think you'll like that person."

"Scott. I'm gay remember. I can't be with a guy or else John is going to come after me."

"Oh yeah. That might be true, but what if half of the school supports you and him." Scott brought out Liam.

Following Liam, a lot of students from behind Liam came to support as well.

"W-What is this?" Bryan looked at the many students.

"I think Liam can answer that." Scott shoved Liam towards Bryan.

"Bryan. You probably know me from the Varsity Basketball Team. And I know what my teammates did to you and your friends was wrong. Even as the captain of the Basketball Team, well formerly as I plan to quit the team, I had no control of those degenerates, especially Drake since he's the biggest bully of this school. I first want to say sorry."

Bryan, however, didn't respond.

"I know you probably don't trust me, and I understand how this school scares you a lot. I even heard about what happened to your Mom. I was also in the case where John took me away from my Grandmother and I still don't know where she is."

The students in the crowd were then curious about what Liam meant.

"I mean shit. I think some of us in this school are probably victims of John's abductions and even if some of them won't speak up about it, he can't just come here and kill us all."

[Plus, I'm also gay]

Bryan's eyebrows rose.

"I also heard about the uncertainty of the guy dressed as a girl. I was so scared to express my sexuality. But with you here, maybe I don't need to be scared at all. If John doesn't like it, then he's going to take both of us in."

"And not just you two, but us as well. I think everyone deserves love, right guys!" Scott raises his fist at the students.

The students also agreed as they were cheering on Bryan and Liam.

"So what do you say Bryan. Do you want to start dating?" Liam offered his hand.

"I never knew someone in this school was gay. I thought I was the only one." Bryan started to tear up.

"YES! I WANT TO DATE YOU!"

Bryan ran towards Liam jumping on him as Liam caught him mid air.

"I can't believe we can finally express ourselves!" Liam was also in tears.

"I know. This is a dream come true!" Bryan then started to kiss Liam.

The students, as well as Scott, Dwayne, Isabelle, Jim, and Natalie, all cheered on their new relationship, seeing this as one of the best moments in Sunshine High.

"This is great Scott." Jim clapped his hands.

"It's all thanks to Dwayne."

"Yep! If it wasn't for my muscles and loud voice, then the students behind us wouldn't be here to support him. You still think your brain would do that?" Scott smiles at Jim.

"Shut up." Jim kept clapping.

[DISGUSTING!]

Everyone then stopped clapping after someone disturbed Bryan and Liam's romance.

All the students looked behind them to see who the person was.

"EW! Bryan and Liam kissing?! That's the most disgusting thing I've ever seen! John and I, the princess of Sunshine High, should be kissing! Not you stupid faggots kissing! That's the weirdest thing I've ever seen!" Laura is behind all the students.

"WHAT?!" Scott being offended by Laura's saying.

"I mean yeah! Like whoever thought of two guys kissing must've been retarded because that's the most abnormal thing I've ever seen!" Laura then walked away from the crowd.

"You motherfucker!" Bryan got off Liam getting ready to give Laura a piece of his mind.

"Bryan. Let me handle this. You should just enjoy some time with Liam." Scott stopped Bryan.

Going through the crowd, Scott chased after Laura.

Approaching her, he grabbed Laura's wrist. "Just what the hell are you saying! Don't you have any respect for any students besides John?! You had no right to harass Bryan and Liam!"

"Well I do because it's your fault that John is not coming today for Valentine's Day!"

"What did I do?! You are just making random excuses to protect that boyfriend of yours!"

"He's innocent and popular! And unlike you, you are just a damn outcast!"

Scott's anger started to boil. "Call me an outcast one more time. I will fucking grab you in your damn cheerleading outfit and make you apologize to Bryan and Liam. So I dare you. Say that again."

[YOU ARE A DAMN FUCKING LOSER!]

Laura yelled at the top of her lungs.

However, Laura wasn't feeling so well. She took a few steps back from Scott.

"Are you okay?" Scott questions Laura.

Suddenly, Laura threw up blood as well as blood coming out of her nose.

"My GOD!" Scott is terrified of Laura.

After realizing what happened today, losing her cheerleading friends, John not coming for her, and the amount of blood on the floor, Laura cried.

"Laura?" Scott is now concerned for her.

"J-Just leave me alone!" Laura ran away from Scott.

"Laura, wait." Scott ran after her.

As Laura ran out of the school, Scott followed her.

Running across the street, she didn't look both ways. Suddenly a car was approaching Laura close to hitting her.

"Laura!" Scott ran as fast as he could.

Scott caught Laura before she got hit by a car.

After catching, Scott and Laura both fell on the snow. They panted heavily after landing on the snow.

"You saved me. Why? I thought you hated me?"

"I do, but I didn't want you to get hit by a car."

"Even if I did plan to kill you before spring break?"

"Even if you did."

Laura and Scott both looked in the cloudy sky.

"Laura, do you still think I killed Troy."

"Come to think of it, John told me that you killed Troy, but personally I don't know."

"So is it that the only reason you want me dead is because of John?"

"Yes. However, I felt like that's the only way he can finally notice me. Even though I'm his girlfriend, I felt like he's not giving me much attention after Troy's death and I think I'm starting to believe your story."

"My story?"

"You know, that you didn't really kill him and instead it was just an unfortunate occurrence."

"Oh yeah. I didn't know the car behind him was going to explode. All I tried to do was let Troy come to his senses."

"I see. I think I'm starting to believe you now since you saved me. If what John said was true, then you would've let the car run me over."

"No Laura. I don't want anyone to get hurt. All I ever wanted was to solve the mysteries of my Mom's childhood town. Like why is Jim the nerd, why is it that John is called the 'King of Highschool,' why does the town felt so empty when I first came here, why are all the stores filled with foods only kids our age like, and what does it mean to be in a contract?"

"A contract?" Laura questions.

"Yeah. Troy mentioned it to me before he died and his face transitioned to someone else."

"I think I know what you're talking about."

"Really?"

"I think so, I can try but I'm not sure. I still can't even remember how I came to Sunshine Valley and why am I a cheerleader in this school?"

"That's okay. Even if you don't know, I'll still find a way to solve this case." Scott went to his pocket.

"Oh another thing. Laura, there's blood on your face. Let me clean that up." Scott picks up some baby wipes from his pocket.

"Mom always packs me some in case of an emergency." Scott cleaning Laura's face.

"Mom." Laura thought to herself.

Suddenly, the bell rang as it was the end of the day.

"Looks like school ended today. Do you want me to walk you home? Since I always see you and John coming here by car, and that John's not here, I can take you back to your house." Scott standing up from the snow.

"Yeah." Laura is also standing up from the snow.

"Oh yeah, another thing." Scott took off his jacket covering Laura.

"I don't want you to freeze since that cheerleading outfit seems a bit too thin."

Laura started to smile a bit towards Scott.

Walking towards Laura's house, they both distance themselves from each other knowing what happened today was difficult to forget.

"So Scott. Why did you come to Sunshine Valley?"

"Because I didn't have a choice. I used to live in Des Moines, but after beating someone up with a baseball bat, I got expelled from my old school as well as exiled from my hometown. Since then, we moved here to start a new life."

"Really? I don't know why but for some reason I think I know how that feels."

"No you don't. I bet where you came from, you didn't have to deal with the crap I've been through."

"No really. For some reason, my mind keeps telling me that I do know what it's like. But it's blurry."

"What about you? Do you know where you came from Laura?"

"Like I told you earlier, I can't remember anything. I don't even remember how I met John. The first thing that comes into my head is I think being in a big bed that I always sleep in."

"Weird."

"I know Scott. I guess I'm similar to Troy, someone who doesn't really know what she's doing and what her purpose is."

"Maybe you do have a purpose. Why not try to know more about yourself. Because I think maybe you are doing all of this just to make John have attention towards you. But what do you really want for yourself? I asked most of my friends this and they became really great. Jim knew what he wanted, which was to be with his family again, Dwayne wants to go to college, Natalie wants independence from Drake the school bully, and what you saw earlier, Bryan just wanted to express his sexuality."

"About Drake, what happened to him?" Laura questions.

"Honestly, after our fight, I don't know. Maybe he left Sunshine Valley or something."

"Oh right. Scott, I'm sorry for sending Drake after you. I guess I was just upset because of John's lack of attention towards me."

"It's okay. I'm glad to fight Drake and his teammates for harassing me and my friends at school."

"Oh yeah. Laura, was that you we saw yesterday on the road?"

"Yeah. I just wanted to follow you and your friends because I was jealous that you have friends that truly support you and not just teammates who you are forced to be friends with."

"Wait, those cheerleaders aren't your friends?"

"No, John made me join them because since I was a cheerleader, he wants me to be with them."

"That makes sense. I remember being on the baseball team at my old school. Not many people wanted to be friends with me because of my reputation and the coach forced my teammates to be friends with me so we can work better as a team."

"Do you plan to join the baseball team? Sunshine High has a Varsity Baseball Team."

"Maybe. I don't really know whether I want to play baseball or not. I'm scared of hurting my teammates again."

"That makes sense." Laura looked down.

Scott and Laura approached John's mansion.

"I assume you still live here?" Scott questions Laura.

"Yep. Still living in John's mansion." Laura gave Scott his jacket back.

"Thanks for taking me home Scott. I hope we can be great friends before spring break."

"Yeah. I hope so too." Scott waved Laura goodbye.

Laura went back home.

Scott then walked back home. "Maybe Laura isn't a bad person after all."
