Chapter 1 - Introduction

"Welcome to Tekan, small town, now deserted because of a single man, much like the, the Emerald Ski Resort or Blue Woods, a killer, believed to have transcended humanity has unleashed his hatred for mankind here, forcing everyone away" a young woman with blonde hair tied in a ponytail and green eyes said with a serious expression.

"Samara, you said 'the' two consecutive times" remarked the man holding the camera, he had brown hair and eyes of the same color, his facial hair was reduced to some sort of goatee without any trace of a mustache.

The other woman, who was holding the sound equipment nodded, her brown hair was cut short and her blue eyes hidden behind sunglasses.

"Damn, I was into it for once, alright, let's do it again..." she cleared her throat and repeated the same line she had memorised to perfection again, it wasn't quite professional level but it was free of stutters at least.

"This very man, known only as 'The Ghost' has reached out to us and accepted to explain why he has done it" she revealed, normally, after the editing, there should be a big sound that make people seat on the edge of their seat but for now, it was the lack of sound of this ghost town.

The town was in an oddly good state despite having been deserted a few decades ago, the sun was hitting hard as the summer had settled in as the new season.

"So, where is he?" asked the boom operator, whose name was Sasha, she kept her arm high up even when not holding the microphone to avoid sweating like a bull.

"He said he would meet us in the town's square and that's where we are..." Samara looked around to no avail.

"Well, it was probably a prank anyways, there is no way that the actual Ghost would contact some students filming a documentary" said the cameraman, whose name was Doug, he had accepted that he was going to sweat like never before while holding the heavy camera.

A minute of silence ensued before a pick-up truck drove over and stopped right next to them.

The driver stepped out energitically, wearing some simple clothes that anyone from around here could wear.

He extended a hand toward Samara as he spoke up.

"You guys must be the documentary crew, nice to meet you!" he said with a smile, grasping each of their hands one by one and shaking it enthusiatically.

"I am The Ghost" he finally presented himself, Doug and Sasha looked at each other, not feeling like he fitted for the role, he looked way too young to be The Ghost talked about in the rumors spreading around, he was like twenty five at most.

Samara didn't miss the beat and didn't show her lack of belief in his words.

"Ah, nice to meet you, I many questions for you" she matched his rythm.

The self-proclaimed Ghost spread his arms widely.

"It's good to see some people still interested in the business of paranormal murder, as you must have guessed, I am not 'The' The Ghost, I just borrowed the name for my debut, building a recognisable identity isn't simple, so I opted for this option" he explained as he started walking through the town, the crew followed after him.

"So, if you are not The Ghost, who are you exactly?" asked Samara as she tried to keep up with his long steps.

"Ah, that I cannot say, my name isn't important anyways, I am The Ghost now, so simply call me ghost" he answered before stopping in front of an inconspicuous looking house.

"So, if I understand correctly, you have yet to begin anything yet?" she asked, no one actually believed this guy was an actual paranormal serial killer, the existence of supernatural elements had never been proven in any of the case she had listed in her introduction.

"I have been doing some stalking mostly, making calls to homes, terrorising children mostly, no one ever believes them, ahahah!" he laughed, his laugh was quite contagious as every laughed with him despite the content of his sentence.

He opened the double doors, revealing the empty interior, missing or broken windows, cracked floor and such, moving a rug out of the way, he lifted a trapdoor and walked in first.

"You know, there are no strict rules in our line of work but generally, we prefer to follow a certain archetype, some will follow it down to the smallest detail, but I believe there is a need for a breath of fresh air..." after walking down some stairs, they arrived to a fully furnished, carved out cave.

"Slow walking and such, those are things of the past, I believe it is time for us to sprint at full speed at them, without needing to get out of their sights first! What is the point of obtaining capabilities that break the rules of science otherwise?" he explained, before seating down on a chair and inviting Samara to seat in another close-by.

The cave was filled with phones of all sorts, landlines hooked up to god knows where and also many smartphones and some that seemed to be from the very beginning of wireless phones.

"You mentioned slow walking, could you elaborate on more of those 'rules' you talked off?" asked Samara, still completely in character despite the weird place he had taken them.

"Well, most of my predecessors, would prepare certain things, which are inconsequential once you reach a certain level, Jacky of Emerald Ski Resort, perhaps the most well known of us, he is pretty much immortal nowadays, even when he dies he doesn't, so things like sabotaging weapons the victims may use or avoiding bullets are meaningless to him now" he elaborated.

"Things like disappearing and then popping out right in front of an escaping victim is a classic, it goes hand in hand with slow walking too, it is a bit too staged to my liking, they totally predict the actions of the their victims and make very little changes on the go, with my debut, I hope to avoid such pitfalls" he added on.

"By the way, do you want anything to drink?" he then suddenly asked.
