Chapter 25 - Ch.25

After locking the possum in Haley's room, I came upstairs to two freaking-out women. They tried to come up with different ways to get rid of the possum. Haley kept suggesting to bash it, while Alex was trying to think of humane ways to do it.

"We could just call animal control, they are meant for this reason," I say after coming up the stairs.

"Right!" Alex says grabbing her phone to look up the number to call it.

"I still think we should bash it!" Haley says while hefting the baseball bat in a menacing way.

"Calm down Dennis, we are gonna try to do this the right way first," I say with a laugh seeing Haley's somewhat excited face to bash the possum.

"Dennis?" Haley says while Alex is on the phone talking to the animal control people.

"So, Alex what'd they say?" I ask Alex ignoring Haley's confused look.

"They will be here in an hour or two…" Alex says with a sigh.

"What?! An hour! I have to… be somewhere!" Haley says trying to hide whatever it is she needs to be doing.

"Guess you are SOL," I say with a chuckle making Haley glare at me very annoyed. Alex just shrugs too since whatever Haley is doing will have to wait.

"I'm serious!" Haley says very annoyed with our lack of care.

"So, what do you want to do about it? What exactly do you need from your room?" I say with a sigh since it seems Haley will be complaining about this until animal control arrives.

"My Makeup, clothes, and some other things to make sure I have what I need," Haley says while we just shake our heads at her.

"Then we slowly open the door and see if we can spot the possum and if it is just sitting in a corner or something you can grab your things. That or you will have to wait for animal control unless you want to go inside the room and bash it like a psycho," I say with Alex nodding her head agreeing with me, as Haley grumbles considering her options.

"Fine!" Haley says as we all walk to her room.

"It's still on your bed," I say making Haley very angry.

"I fucking hate that thing," Haley says with an angry face.

"Go grab your things quickly," I say opening the door all the way with Haley handing me her bat as she runs in grabbing her things.

"Fuck me!!" Haley says running inside as the Possum stands up hissing at us.

Haley just gives it an annoyed, angry, and nervous look before quickly grabbing the rest of her things. The one thing I noticed she grabbed too was a professional-looking camera, for people that just started a career in photography.

"Ok! I got it! Let's go!" Haley says running out of the room back upstairs, as I close the door leaving the possum still trapped in the room.

"Alex, I'm gonna use your room to change and stuff," Haley says as I come back upstairs with her going to her old room Alex just nods her head.

"That was fun," I say sarcastically with Alex just nodding her head.

Haley then leaves shortly after getting ready for what might be a photo shoot, which has me slightly curious. Though I don't say anything as Haley seems to be keeping that a secret and I don't feel like starting any more drama than this family already has. About an hour and a half later animal control finally shows up. With Alex and I watching the first national treasure movie, which wasn't terrible even though I'm not a fan of Nick Cage.

"So where is the possum?" the one animal control guy says as the other is holding some equipment to catch it.

"I'll show you," I say bringing them down to the basement with Alex coming behind everyone as the animal control follows me.

"Inside that room," I say pointing to Haley's room as the two animal control guys head slowly into the room.

After a few minutes of the possum hissing and one of the guys cursing, they come back out with the possum locked in a cage. They show it to us before taking their leave. Alex and I look inside Haley's room to see the bed a mess with what smells like possum piss. While the sheets are all over the place, overall I felt like the bed should be burned.

"Jesus!" Alex says while gagging on the smell.

"Should we try to wash her sheets or just let Haley deal with this shit?" I ask Alex as I couldn't care either way.

"I guess we should be nice," Alex says with a sigh as we put on some disposable gloves to grab the sheets and place them in the washer.

Then Alex grabs some other cleaning supplies as we try our best to clean Haley's room. Once Alex was satisfied we finally left it, though Alex spotted some other photography equipment.

"What is this?" Alex says looking at the equipment.

"Seems like Haley has taken up photography," I say with a shrug since Alex now knows Haley is doing whatever with cameras.

"Photography…wait… is Haley doing porn?!!" Alex says as I give Alex a very surprised and confused face.

"Why is that your first thought?!" I say even though I could see Haley doing a porno once out of curiosity and stupidity.

"Cause it is Haley!" Alex says as I open my mouth and then close it nodding my head agreeing with her.

"Though that begs the question of, is Haley video tapping herself or video tapping someone else," I say since Haley has the camera and other equipment. Then I remembered that in the show, she tried her hand at being a professional photographer.

"I…Uh…hm…" Alex says while thinking of a hundred different things probably.

"Then again Haley might just be trying to be a photographer," I say with a shrug as Alex just nods her head while still thinking of whatever is going on in her mind.

A few days after the possum event and me suggesting Alex to not make a big deal about the cameras. Everyone found out that Haley was trying her hand at being a photographer, but it is an extremely hard field to make a career out of. Either way, her family did their best to support her by going to the exhibit where she was showcasing her photos.

Months flew by with our third year of high school coming to an end, thankfully Alex was a lot less stressed now. With her acing all her classes and coming in second place as the best student in our grade, the first place is held by me.

"Gabe, Phil, and his family are taking a vacation to Australia. They asked if we wanted to tag along, but I already told them we couldn't," Dad says to me as I walk downstairs to see my family going about their day.

"Oh, where are we going?" I ask him curious.

"Well, that's the thing, we know you might want to go to Australia with Alex and her family. But we are going to Spain to visit your Mom's family, so what did you want to do?" Dad asks me as I consider it.

"If possible, would Alex be able to tag along with us to Spain if she can join us?" I ask him as he nods his head immediately.

"Yeah sure she can… though if you are looking for some alone time with Alex… I'll try to distract your mother," Dad says to me while whispering the next part as my Mom was in the other room with Olivia.

"Uhhhh…" I say not expecting this from my Dad.

"Don't give me that look, I was your age and I know for a fact your guys are already at that stage. And I know you two are smart enough to be safe, so I am just trying to give you an out here," Dad says to me with a smirk as I just give him a surprised look.

"Two things, first that is awesome and I will definitely take you up on that. Second, when Olivia is my age will you be this understanding to her as me?" I say to him while chucking at the second part as his face contorts with anger just imagining his daughter dating one day.

"You know what, never mind you are on your own," Dad says to me while waving his hand dismissing me.

"I was just kidding! Don't let Mom ruin this!" I say as Mom just enters the kitchen hearing me with Olivia right behind her.

"¿No me dejes arruinar qué?Huh, Gabe?" (Don't let me ruin what? Huh, Gabe?) Mom says to me as my Dad is smirking at me.

"Pregúntale a papá," (Ask Dad) I say quickly leaving while going to ask Alex if she'd rather come to Spain with my family this year. Hearing me my Mom turns to my Dad who gives me an incredulous look and then glares at me.

"Alex, my family is going to Spain at the same time your family is going to Australia. Did you want to tag along with us to Spain instead?" I ask Alex who I called while sitting in my room avoiding my Mom.

"Really? Uhm… I'd go, but let me see what my parents say," Alex says since she is still nervous around my family even though we've known each other for years and have been dating almost as long too.

'My parents are ok with it,  though my Dad is calling your Dad now,' Alex texts me as I send her 👌.

The day finally comes with me picking up Alex from her house and bring her to mine. As she nervously talks to my parents and greets my sister. Then we all head to the airport, boarding the plane, once we take our seats Alex seems to have relaxed finally.

"Why are you still so nervous around my family? You've known them for years and they love you?" I say to Alex who shrugs before talking.

"I don't know… I always feel like I don't belong because everyone in your family is crazy successful, while I come from a family of… not so successful people. Plus I feel like your Mom is always silently judging me," Alex says as I look over to my Parents who are sitting with my Sister.

"What does your therapist say about this?" I say turning to Alex who sighs.

"That I worry too much and overthink things, plus I know you always tell me that is not the case. But I can't help that this is how I feel," Alex says to me with another sigh.

"Well, I'll try my best to make you not feel that way. Plus you will get to see where my Mom's family comes from… though I will have to warn you that they have a very large place.

"What do you mean?" Alex says to me as the plane finally takes off.

"My Mom's side of my family comes from a long line of rich nobles from Spain. We still own a lot of land and other businesses, while having more money than they know what to do with. The main estate my grandparents live in is… huge and can be overwhelming for those who first come there," I say to Alex whose face pales slightly hearing this becoming even more nervous.

"Just try to relax, you already met my Mom's side before. This time you just get to see where they come from," I say to her as she just shakes her head still nervous.

"Let's watch a movie to take your mind off this," I say looking through the movies we can watch as Alex is trying to not panic.

The rest of the flight went by fairly quickly as Alex finally relaxed after a while and we just enjoyed the flight to there. Arriving at the airport, my grandparent's driver came to pick us all up in a limo. Making Alex grow nervous once again as I sighed since maybe telling her before we arrived was a bad idea on my part.
