Together with Stuart, Berry descended the stairs. You can imagine the surprise on his face when everything suddenly went silent, even though the music was still blaring a second back. He looked at Stuart, his eyes conveying his confusion caused by the silence and the absence of people in the living room, but Stuart shrugged in response because even he didn't know what Berry's friends and the family were up to.
All of a sudden, about twelve heads popped out and loud voices yelled, "SURPRISE!!!" Their chorused shout almost had Berry missing a step, and he would have fallen if not for Stuart, who caught him at the right time.
Still shocked, Berry's eyes scanned the faces, and a smile bloomed on his lips when he met the eyes of his family and friends. Even though he had already known they were here and had expected them to yell surprise when he came out, he was still surprised, and his heart warmed at their gestures.
"Fuck! Where is the confetti gun?"
