Chapter 21 - Planning a cramming

Beyern took out the Yri herbs, absantly thinking about a few of his plans 'I've already showcased Quanta's medal, so anyone who does a little sleuthing will know I'm already ordained by them, so if I hide it with 'Interreligious' they'll realize that I have been ordained by multiple gods.

Which will be troublesome to say the least, but that's only if they know about 'Interreligious'. Not everyone knows that it exists, since the six churches aren't too fond of it's existence, which encourages church polygamy, which is in opposistion to what the churches wish for.

But hinting to such a thing would also increase the amount of people who know about it, and I'm not against keeping it a secret either, so it'd probably be best to hide any hints of it.'

Which meant he would release the seal on Quanta's mark whenever he dealt with the Zankret church for their mark, which would be in the near future, all he needed was to get the token that proved he was a novice rank member of the mages' guild.

if he had that, he could probably act like someone who had been with the mages' guild for at least half a decade. It would be especially easy with the stubble currently growing, Beyern not having shaved it since he came to the city.

All he had to do was wait until he got invited to the 'Promotion exam', then he had to show his ability to shoot out a magic missile, but for that he'd probably need to prepare his mana pool with a load of 1:7 mana along with a duo of 1:3 double-thickness mana rings.

Beyern couldn't help but frown a bit mentally at the time he'd need to waste on that which could, instead, be used to train masteries or make undead.

But it would be worth it if he could get partial access to their stores of magical knowledge, and the material related to blacksmithing would not be bad to have either.

But that was only going to happen after some tim- "Sir, I am pleased to inform you that you have met the standard for the promotion test, do you wish to register for it?"

"That would be a pleasureable arrangement, though it depends on the date of said test, for I would need at least two days to prepare." Beyern said naturally, with no sign of suprise.

He found this development rather pleasant, allowing him to soon waste less time on the gathering of Yri herbs, and do something a little more... Battle-oriented for a change.

"Sir, the next test is set to occur on the day of flames, three days from now." The clerk responded.

Beyern made a face that was filled with thought, before saying "Please register me for it."

"Could I borrow your token?" The receptionist asked, quickly being met with the wooden token he had gotten when he joined the guild.

He quickly read what was inscribed on the token, and then asked "Can I comfirm your name?"

"Is that truly necessary? I had not registered my name in the guild." Beyern questioned, quickly starting to doubt if that crystal was truly a mere archetype sensor even if it looked a lot like one.

It seemed this was a common question, as he said casually "Oh, the guild card used for novices is more sophisticated than the piece of wood infused with mana used by beginners."

"Really?" Beyern asked, taking the moment to process the information that he had faked to build up a lie "The names' Hariot."

The receptionist took out a piece of paper, which seemed to be some kind of registry, and started to write a few things, one line being referenced from the token.

'Interesting... Interesting...' He thought while watching, though he might be someone who can easily give up on learning or understanding something, he was still very curious about the world around it.

Especially how things worked, while knowing why they worked was of lesser importance. It's just that... Everything that he did not know of; Magic, classes, system shenanigans, everything he was supressing his curiousity for, was way out of his league.

What worried him most was why he got his necromancer class right after getting his hands on a corpse, but he supressed it. Even if he tried to figure out why, he would never get the answer in a reasonable time-frame.

And what if he could never get the answer? He would've wasted so much time on a fool's errand! That's why one should always weigh the expected amount of time it takes to learn something, against how much benefit it would bring.

"Sir?" The receptionist said in a questioning tone, breaking Beyern out of his light stupor.

"My dearest apologies, I was contemplating about a few things, please do not take it personally." He said, after which realizing he had let slip a bit of his true speaking habits, but seeing that the other party had taken no notice of it, he let it slide for now.

Though he still mentally disparaged himself for making such a mistake "Could I know when and where it will take place?"

"It should be about two hours after dawn at the east gate." The receptionist said while handing over the wooden token.

Beyern, no, Hariot happily took the token with a smile "Have a great day." He said while walking away.

He then went over the the alchemist's guild, sold the Beyklir bladders of the day, and especially made a bit of small talk with the somewhat cute resceptionist while waiting on the money to be transfered over.

He correlated the amount of times he had come to sell his haul, and with the off-handed comment of; 'You must've been hunting Beyklir for at least a few years to consistantly get so many gallbladders!'

Though it didn't contain any substance, just a few random topics, mostly letting her do the talking, allowing him to keep as many secrets as possible while also decreasing the amount of lies he needed to remember.

It was mostly just to supplant his identity into the local sphere, if no one remembered him, he'd have problems when trying to enter a group that attempted to look into his background.

'Speaking of which, it would be most astute to prepare a fake tale of my history as to fake a background. I should be able to build up a fake interest too if I often speak of it to people close to me...'

Beyern sighed, there were so many facets he could work on socially, which would just be there if he were born with parents, and especially the fact that he just appeared in his twenties.

If he let slip that he had just gotten it, it'd be troublesome. Because of his current mastery being suspicious for someone who hadn't had a class for more than at least a few years, mostly because of {Mana-manipulation}'s stature.

'Hah... The pain of having too much talent...' He joked as he passed the paladin or priest girl from Xenxilir, her not even recognizing him.

This was why being in a city was the best, due to being so used to the swathes of people walking along the street, you can easily not talk to 'Sensitive' specimens with which you need to handle with care as to not have your lies blow up in your face.

'Actually, thinking of future plans, I should probably have teammates. It'd be stupid not to.' He thought to himself as he ignored those around him while keeping a staunch focus on his money, never letting truly be unaccounted for.

He entered the room he had been living in since the beginning of his life in Bacallu, and started to plan out his preperations, putting aside his thoughts about comrades and the like for after the test.

'The maximum I can compress mana right now is at 1:8.1 with {Mana manipulation}'s big boost, and the amount of time it takes for 1 mp to be channeled with normal mana is 13 minutes.

If I divide 13 with 8.1, that means It'll decrease the time from around 13 minutes, to around 1.6 minutes per mp... It'll probably be boosted by a bit when {Mana-packing}'s mastery goes up again, though I'm not sure how much more.

I'll also need to find the most efficient concentration of mana as to have the most amount of mana available in ring form, finding a new- More space efficient- way to flow mana in place of the rings seems possible also.'

Beyern had an inkling in his mind that he could to the last thing, probably an effect from {Mana-packing}, though he couldn't be sure. Maybe it was related to whatever was the cause of his fast growth, or something else entirely.

He may have even unknowingly been close to a dragon scale recently, since they are said to somehow give 'Epiphanies' to mages and the sort. Though Beyern was personally doubtful of said effect, many weren't.

'That could be an excuse if met with suspicion, a fake dragon scale necklace. Since almost no one has ever even seen a dragon, nor a lose dragon scale, so buying some cheap necklace and using it as an excuse when it's necassary would work.

And then people would come over to steal it, and then I'd be able to cheat some dumbasses with some necklace worth about half a silver in exchange for my life.' Beyern couldn't help but chuckle at the thought, though it'd probably be one of the most frightening moments of his life when it happened.

If it actually worked, it'd be a memory that would be 'Reframed' in his mind to be filled with pride and intelligence- Well, maybe not. But he sure as hell would explain it as such to others when he gained enough power to no longer fear people hunting him down.

But like most things now, that was for later.

Now he would just prepare his mana stores, and also put a few things into {Mental grimiore}, that'd probably be enough to pass. If he had extra mana he could use to test some things, he'd...

He wasn't exactly sure what he would do with it, but he's pretty sure he'd do something with it.
