Chapter 14 - Conduits and you

Beyern couldn't help but laugh slightly after the little fool had left his line of sight 'A classic! I love shaking one's faith in any way.'

To defeat, or trick, one's enemy, when you're not super powerful, you must know them in an out.

And... Beyern might've been a bit hopeful in changing class through the church if he got some garbage in class form. Like 'Thrall', 'Serf', 'Slave', and all that good stuff.

Now, the fun thing is, now, with his knowledge over every single church, is basically useless if he doesn't interact with any believers. So yes, he is planning to have dealings with a few of them.

And if he ever finds himself failing in his persuit of necromancy, he can use this as a fall back. It's actually pretty common for people with power to throw their children into a church if they happen to get either a terrible or forbidden class.

You'd be suprised how many convertees come from people with classes that don't fit them, and the churches are happy to facilitate their salvation.

Though there's one problem, to get a class related to a god, except for the god of chaos and war Quytza, you have to get past the living faith-detector in the form of a priest, then you also have to disclose your class with a class-sensor if you want to change it...

Very troublesome stuff really.

He knew of seven gods, all of them somewhat unique. Them being; Cercil, god of light and order. Xenxilir, god of hunting and tamers. Veinstlat, god of shadows and revenge. Quanta, god of knowledge and merchantry. Pramtisqe, god of glory and honor. Zankret, god of steel and magic. And finally, The god of chaos and war, Quqrth'ytierh'zaxilstyh, or Quytza.

Each of them holding their own religious texts, beliefs, myths and legends.

But that would reveal itself in time, now, he had two proper ways in mind to train either {Mana-packing} or {Mana-shaping}. The former was just compressing his mana rings more and more, repeatedly, endlessly. {Mana shaping}'s scheme was making a cube, and then designing a bunch of cool details on it's surface.

Though, he could also... You know... Renovate his conduit.

He was leaning towards the conduit plan far more, due to how much it has been a limiting factor of his mastery accumulation.

There were qoute on quote; 'Myriad ways' to do so. Mostly unique to oneself, there were normal ways, like endlessly drawing out mana to your limit while pouring in both mana, and a bit of spirit as support, to nourish one's circuit. Or, you could do a blood sacrifice once in a full moon to your imaginary friend while putting in mana to help your good friend help your little heart-gate open up.

And just so you know, the latter takes none of your spirit's help, and has more of an effect for the same amount of mana.

Decision, decisions... To do something normal, or to throw sanity to the wind for a greater effect? 'Why not both?' He wondered as he wandered the streets, his feet guiding him back to his to his residence.

He sat in a lotus posistion on his bed, starting to think how he would get his method 'Do I throw myself back into the mental space for the insanity? Or do I use the power of human intellect to form a sane path? Or do I do option 2 first, and then add on option 1?'

Well, Beyern definently wanted a more normal way of doing this, wherever and whenever, no matter the conditions.

He pondered on how he could possibly increase the capacity of his conduit, but then it hit him, like a relelation from a god- Though it probably wasn't one, since... You know, he held no true faith in one.

He pushed out more and more mana, then more, and more, compressing mana too to keep it within his body mass. After a total of 100 mana was totaled up, along with his two rings. Meaning he had to take out a total of...

56 minutes in total of waiting.

Then took a lot of time to condense it all, small and smaller, and also smaller percentages condensed at one moment, to the point that in one 2 cm ball of mana that held 100 mana.

Meaning that the ball of mana had 10 mana in place of the normal 1 mana in the original ball. Meaning a total of 4.19~ cm cubed containing the same amount of mana as a ball of mana that has 41.89~ cm cubed, having a diameter of 4.31~ cm.

Then, he took a small, small fragment of the ball, and pushed it through the conduit, trading it for an amount of mana equal to the condensed mana's volume.

Then he repeated this a many, many times, an extra 90 mana above his mana pool's maximum inside.

Then Beyern started to feel around inside his mana pool through the conduit for said condensed mana, slowly gathering it back into a ball, then bringing it forth through the froth of mana, and against the conduit.

As a test, Beyern took a miniscule amount of mana out of his mana pool, and he had gained the happy revelation that the condensed mana came out.

He quickly pushed it back into the metaphysical cup hidden behind the conduit, dispersing the mana he had exchanged for it.

Then it was time to upgrade his conduit.

A big part on how you nourish a conduit, is how you picture your conduit.

He pictured it as a small decrepit wooden door barely attached to it's hinges, the ruin attached to it holding many treasures in the form of mana, it's explorers only being able to bring one treasure at a time.

The treasures were actually all sorts of building materials that could be used to renovate, expand, and reinforce the gate. While the spirit being his engineers, and his mental energy the organization that supports his spirit's actions.

But some treasures are better than others, more valuable, more pure, more condensed. and there were other gates that could be attached to those ruins at a later date- Beyern just opening up his vision for forseable ambitions.

The engineers had started to wake up the work animals, and the faction behind them had started to send their private adventurers into the ruins.

With the first treasure, one of the ones with 10 times the gold inside it than usual, the engineers started to get to work.

At a certain point it became apparant that there was a destinct lack of good relics, all of them already used up, a higher power having to refill the ruins at a later date.

Beyern broke off of the process, nodding to himself, as this was a method that could either be prepared for, or not. Either he just went into it blind, and just picked up normal mana, or, he could put condensed mana into the mana pool.

Actually, he was going to do the latter either way, since that was basically just increasing the conduit size + Mana pool size, and he didn't even need to maintain it's form in the natural mana centre.

He took a deep breath, and thought for a few moments on one single question; 'Do I use the mind palace to get my second method?'.

He quickly came to an answer; 'Yes, of course I should, all those warnings about falling into a comatose state after entering that I just recently read about don't have any basis upon my own experience!'

And so, Beyern sighed, he had just recently gained the position of guild master, and he had been left a massive problem by his predecessor.

A long time ago, the founder of the Occultists' guild had uncovered an ancient ruin, an altar to to old gods, with the method future generations had found, the guild could siphon power from the new gods.

But time had taken no notice of the traces of divinity within the temple with no roof nor proper walls, and though the guild had tried everything they could, no method had worked.

"Child of man," A voice older than time itself called out from beyond the veil "we, the old gods, have taken note of your guild. You seem to be having issues repairing our altar."

Beyern couldn't help but shake, the old gods, they were still alive? "Yes, old one, this poor servant can find no method nor artifact of any effect."

"As you should've," The voice said arrogantly "how could a mortal repair something of divine origin? Though, the old gods offer you a method, do you wish to hear it?"

"Of course, old one," Beyern said, his voice shaking slightly with excitement "would any not wish to return an altar of the old gods back to it's original glory?"

The voice seemed pleased "No mortal in the right state of mind would, though, sadly, there are some bound by the lies of usurpers. If you wish to fix the altar you must present blessings originating from one of the seven usurpers, along with supplementary sacrifices."

And then the voice disappeared, never to be heard again.

Beyern, using the might of his position, captured a paladin, took out his heart, the basis of his blessing, and sacrificed it to the old gods along with seven gold coins made of mana. After which, the altar, along with it's complimentary arches, became slightly less decrepit. Later, he found that even the siphoning had been refurbished slightly.

Then he made a few priests bless a silver goblet, not using the [Bless] skill, seeing the effect of each goblet, and each had the same effect. Though another test showed the skill also had an effect.

Then Beyern returned to his chambers, finally allowing himself to rest after finally rescuing the guild from it's imminent destruction.

And finally Beyern was back, pretty sure of what he had to do, he had to go to the churches, and get some blessed items.
