Synopsis
A guy who isn’t heroic at all gets caught up in a situation where everyone including himself is a victim of circumstance. Not knowing what the heck is going on, the guy dies, and wakes up unable to see. In the room he wakes up in, he realises that he is not alone. In this pitch-black room, he is unable to determine his safety, but the same thing goes for the girl who is in there with him. … Stay tuned for this horror adventure of Cain and Athena, as they make their way through the afterlife while unable to see, and Cain becomes more and more immersed in reality, rather than dissociated by the distractions of his mind, guided by the desire to finally become someone who is can help in a crisis, rather than runaway. Chapter 1 - Dilemma 1 - The Day I Died.

As she leans against the wall, alone but not lonely, her mature aura begins to take my gaze.

She isn't doing anything, just observing.

I wonder what she's up to?

I automatically start thinking that this is probably one of those moments to go up to the good looking girl and take my chances, but I feel as though that approach is just going to get me rejected.

*alarm noises*

The building goes into lockdown, and an announcement begins, "Attention all guests, we have an emergency situation on our hands, please make your ways to the fire escape in the orderly fashion…"

The sudden inciting incident as though this were a story makes me feel like the main character for a brief moment.

My eyes light up, 'THIS IS MY CHANCE!', I think to myself as I look at the girl.

However, before I can even attempt to make a move, my attention is taken away by something more serious… who knew?

"AAAAAHHHHHH!!!", a woman's screams can be heard through the floor above us, and everyone on our level listens to the struggles silently.

Eventually the atmosphere becomes heavy, and what was once a party moments ago, has now become a horror movie.

Everyone looks at one another with the hope that someone will have the balls to reassure everyone that she will be saved, but no one does anything, which makes everyone feel guilty at their lack of heroism.

However, the girl who was observing party earlier, doesn't appear to feel any sense of guilt.

'What's up with her?', I think to myself.

I notice that her attention is drawn to the entire situation, waiting for whatever's next that's going to happen, rather than suffering a psychological drama of shame.

Things are happening to us all in this moment, but only this girl is truly aware of this fact as the rest remain wishfully, and willingly, ignorant.

Watching her act this way gets me to try and act the same way, and I take in the situation for the seriousness that it is, and how it could affect me.

After the screaming from the floor above completely dies out, no pun intended, some people can be seen beginning to scurry over to the stairwell with the intention to run out of fear of the unknown situation.

Eventually everyone else follows naturally, and the girl and me are separated by the large crowd, though, it's not like we were together in the first place, we're strangers after all, and she probably hasn't even noticed me yet.

Before I can enter the stairwell after the girl, I'm stopped by raining bodies from the floor above.

People begin to scream from the blood bath, and I see the girl disappear quickly into the crowd as she tries to run away silently.

I stay there frozen, staring at the corpses in front of me, not knowing what the hell is going on.

Now that the girl is fully out of sight, my attention is complete taken by the dead bodies, she's just been that beautiful to me, you know?

Anyways, me and about 20 people in the ballroom behind me take a step back away from the staircase, and some people cry in a rush back in after a few meters of separation from their spouses.

I, someone who has no one to run to, just wants to leave this building as quickly as possible, but something tells me that running now would result in instant death.

Once everyone in the floor makes sure that everyone who wanted to renter is inside, we work together to barricade the door right away, and on the other side, my gut instincts were correct, for now I hear the slaughter coming from just the other side.

We all get away from the door and prepare ourselves with weapons, because surely it's something we can fight against, right?

"AAAAH-"*snatch*

A woman disappears within our room.

IT'S INSIDE!!

We all gather in one place to protect one another, but the woman's husband cries out for the nemesis to bring her back.

The nemesis listens to his cries, and her legs begin to lower from the air vents above.

Her body then collapsed, mangled, right onto the floor infront of us all.

Before he even had the time to react to the atrocity in front of him, his head suddenly explodes.

This is the moment I realise that this isn't something that brute force fighting power can take on, and try to find an alternative exit right away, or at least a place to hide.

Eventually, we all find ourselves scurrying like ant, flailing our weapons around frantically in the hopes of hitting something, but more and more people die, now matter where we run or hide.

Some people tried to make their way to the stairway, but they died the moment they could open the door.

However, the door is already open, so maybe now I have a chance?

With only 3 people remaining, I run with them to the exit, but for some reason, one of them stops running the moment we make it to the door.

We turn around as we run, and the girl who was previously frightened the most is now levitating 5 feet into the air, and her head is snapping again, and again, and again.

Her head doesn't explode, but instead remains attached to her neck by a string of flesh.

This is the moment I don't slow down for anything. I run with all my might, and try to jump entire staircases just to get away.

I forget that I can get injured by fall damage, but the pain doesn't matter, the fear of dying does.

The other person with me, another woman, does the same, but she isn't so lucky.

She breaks her legs and many teeth on impact, since she tried to do so while in high heels.

The sight of her failure makes me feel bad and scared from the situation, but I can't worry about her, I need to worry about myself, fearful about that floating girl and whatever is controlling her.

The woman screams out to me, and I shout out that I'm sorry.

Finally, I make my way to the exit of the building, and there no one left inside with me.

I see behind the glass doors that there isn't anyone to speak of either.

I stop moving after noticing something, "…we couldn't leave from the start…".

Not only do I not see anyone behind the building, I don't see anything, just endless, black, void.

I quickly turn around, and plan to hide behind the counter, and quietly.

After all the ruckus I've been making until now, I'm probably target number 1, so I've got to keep a low profile.

The moment I take my first step however, I begin to loose consciousness.

The last thing I think is, '…I wish I got to at least be able to muster up the courage to talk to that girl before I died.'.

And then, the next thing I know, I'm dead.
