Chapter 169 - Chapter 170

Saturday, September 11.

Because of some forgetfulness, the grain stock wasn't replenished in time.

Today, Teacher Luke's breakfast mirrored that of his Pokémon companions – a sweet and sour Berry.

"What are you looking at?" Luke mumbled with a mouthful of sweet and sour Salac Berry. "Can't I enjoy some Berry?"

The Pokémon exchanged puzzled glances.

Their owner seemed to be experiencing tight times...

He's used to eat Pokéblock!

A realization struck Haunter, and he freshened up. When he floated back, he had a bank card in his hand.

"jie jie~!" Haunter grinned and handed the bank card to Luke.

Luke paused, "Is this your salary card?"

"jie jie~!" Haunter proudly nodded.

Luke felt moved and patted Haunter's head, saying, "Keep it for yourself. We're in this together, I can still support you guys!"

Growlithe, who was chewing on his special dog food, ceased eating and pushed the remaining half-bowl toward Luke.

"vui~…"

Sylveon poked Luke with a ribbon, offering a half-eaten Oran Berry.

Luke found this situation rather odd. He had merely forgotten to buy groceries, but the atmosphere felt so somber!

After breakfast, Luke instructed Haunter to take Growlithe with him to buy groceries.

"I won't be much help in that department; I thought I was going to compete with Growlithe for food," Luke quipped.

"jie jie~!"

Haunter patted his chest, one hand carrying a basket and the other holding the dog leash.

Luke waved them off and, as he watched them leave, commented with amusement, "I can't help but feel that this guy would make a better nanny than Mr. Mime!"

Returning to the sofa, Luke began stroking Sylveon's soft white fur and continued his brushing routine.

"Teacher Luke's Late Night Canteen" was trending on the homepage, and the comments were filled with praise.

"Do you think Teacher Luke is a Master? In reality, he's a chef!"

"Siebold: Thank you, I've been enlightened."

"Teacher Luke can do it all!"

Seeing this enthusiastic response, Luke couldn't help but smile with satisfaction.

Even though the revenue wasn't substantial, it was still better than nothing. Furthermore, thanks to the BP exchange from the system, he didn't have to purchase Berries himself.

Cradling Sylveon in his arms, Luke and Squirtle spent some time watching "Elesa's Catwalk Compilation." Suddenly, Luke smacked his forehead.

"Wasn't there something else I was supposed to do?"

A spark of inspiration ignited, and he followed a subtle link related to the "College League."

It was a close call; he nearly forgot!

After reviewing the information, Luke nodded in understanding.

"The format is like this…"

The semi-finals of the college league are determined through a round-robin system. There are four academies participating: Imperial Capital, Magic City, Goldhill, and University of Communications.

The semi-final competition will take place at the Phoenix Nest in Imperial Capital in three days. The competition is divided into individual and team events, and the rewards are quite generous, including rare items like the Miracle Seed and Mystic Water.

Luke's eyes lit up.

Before, he had to spend a hundred thousand on a few drops of liquid Mystic Water. A full Mystic Water could be worth millions!

With this, he wouldn't have to refill Squirtle's water as often!

Luke reviewed the competition details once more and began pondering his strategy.

The reward allows the best individual to choose between "Charcoal," "Miracle Seed," and "Mystic Water."

Securing the MVP title from Capital University, the three-time reigning champion, wouldn't be a walk in the park.

"Right, let's let Squirtle shine on the big stage," Luke said with a nod while rubbing his chin.

"It's not wise to be overly cautious..."

"Wait until the haunter comes back, I'll just be a scumbag!"

...

Since Haunter had to work extra hours, there was no opportunity for Growlithe to participate in the game. Luke refused to keep Growlithe confined in a Poké Ball because it didn't align with his style. Luke then explained to Haunter, "I'll be away for three days and return shortly. You take care of him."

"jie jie~!" Haunter solemnly pledged with a nod.

"ao wu!" Growlithe wagged his tail and let out a howl.

Luke's expression revealed a mix of emotions.

With Pokéblock ready and Haunter taking Growlithe for a walk, everything seemed to be in order. Although it hadn't been long since Growlithe joined, his temperament seemed good. Shouldn't it be fine to let Haunter watch over him?

Despite his worries, Luke entrusted Sister Liu with a few words. She chuckled and replied, "At the very least, even if the house gets wrecked, the damages won't amount to much. The most important thing is to ensure the Pokémon are happy."

Luke raised an eyebrow, taken aback by the idea of a wealthy world.

Banter aside, Luke could see that Growlithe had a strong desire to grow stronger. He decided to use this time to train Growlithe and perhaps level up at Magic City Gym while preparing for the competition.

As the whole Magic University school team prepared to travel to Imperial Capital, Luke received a call from Cynthia. She reminded him of Canalave City's upcoming research summit and that she hoped to see him there.

"Even if you don't have any research to present, the main reason is to see you," Cynthia said with a smile. "But, you know that."

Luke, feeling slightly troubled, rubbed his forehead. "Am I overusing that phrase 'the wolf is coming'?"

"That's the case," Cynthia admitted. "But I'm well aware it's your signature line."

On the plane, Coach Zhai leaned over to Luke, elbowing him gently. He whispered, "Little Luke, if you perform well this time, the school may recommend you to study at Celadon University. But you'll have to work hard!"

Luke's expression turned subtly conflicted. He was already going to be a Mentor there, so it was a bit odd to be asked to study there.

Luke coughed and replied, "Alright, Coach, I'll do my best."

Coach Zhai nodded with a smile. "A guest is coming, Professor Rowan, also coming from Celadon University. If you can learn something from him, it'll be beneficial for you."

In the front row, Captain Johnny seemed to recall something. "Is Professor Rowan still trying to persuade Teacher Luke?"

"Persuading?" Coach Zhai was surprised.

"To invite Teacher Luke to study for his graduate degree at Celadon University," Angela Shen explained, "It seemed that the offer was declined."

Coach Zhai looked at Luke and clicked his tongue. "Is that so?"

"It's been somewhat twisted," Luke replied, shaking his head.

Coach Zhai relaxed a bit and coughed. "Anyway, everyone, please give it your all. If we win, I'll treat you to Peking duck!"

The burst of cheers added to the anticipation, and Luke had high hopes. He rubbed Squirtle's head and said enthusiastically, "If the opponent proves too formidable, don't be ashamed to yield early. There's no disgrace in a tactical retreat!"

"uirt~! ヾ(⌐■_■)"

Squirtle carefully adjusted his sunglasses and nodded enthusiastically.

Though he didn't know exactly how formidable their opponent would be, the hints from the boss made it clear that this would be an extremely challenging battle. Squirtle clenched his fists and wore a serious expression, determined not to disappoint his master.
