Chapter 7 - Descent of Chaos [ 7 ]

If she thought that way then in the future she might actually do it in reality. It wasn't something she wanted to manifest. Still she did her utmost to wrestle her way out.

"I need to…I have to…"

All the commotion they made did not remain unnoticed. More and more people in the plaza turned their heads to look at them. Some of them started to make their way to lend their help.

"Ms. Anderson stop."

"We can talk things out."

"LET ME GO!!!"

"Yuki, bring her other leg over."

"Ascend."

"This nightmare NEEDS TO END!!!"

"Jack, ugh arms behind her back!"

"Ms. Anderson, this isn't a dream."

"Jack, c'mon!"

In between all of her screaming and the girl's attempts to calm her down, a single word escaped Jack's lips. That single word instantly changed the situation. The people that were about to help instantly halted in their tracks.

They saw an eerie sight. Air was warping into a vortex-like shape. From the center of that vortex seeped out wispy strands of almost ethereal violet smoke. It spun and spun, rapidly turning with immense speed.

Until it came to a halt, then in a sudden inexplicable burst, space cracked and a blanket of deep purple enveloped Jack and his classmates. Then in the next instance there was nothing. The crack in the air and purple vortex vanished. And as one would expect the group of teenagers along with their teacher had disappeared.

(3:08 PM EST)

"Ahhhhh!!!"

Unlike before, a ripple of screams erupted from the crowd. They had been front and center of everyone, not in a relatively secluded corner of the plaza like Sia and the rest. There was no hiding it.

What the crowd witnessed was fear inducing. A group was wiped from reality not even a trace of their existence lingered. Quite literally erased.

"A-a-a-a-a purple thing just ate those guys."

"What!!"

"Weren't there a group of kids there a second ago…"

An uproar arose amongst them trying to clarify what had happened in the vain hope of denying the truth before them. Yet the sense of dread grew heavier as people affirmed their fears.

"Huh?"

"Hwat…what are you saying?"

Even those that had ignored Angelica's earlier torrent of madness took notice of the growing commotion. They were dragged back into reality, breaking their own train of thought.

"Where are they now!?"

"Look around."

"I don't see them."

People stuck in denial even started to look around trying to find them. There was no way people could just vanish into thin air like that. It was simply impossible. Simply impossible. It was just impossible. It can't…

That's what kept telling themselves as they frantically searched their surroundings for the missing people. Still they came up short. No one could figure out where they went or how they were able to disappear.

After a few minutes of this fruitless endeavor, a man in a casual attire lifted his head to stare aimlessly at the uselessness of it all. There he saw the nearly complete green force field forming around the city.

'What the fuck…'

He stumbled back, losing his footing and fell onto the pavement. His eyes were locked onto it as the last remnants of blue were enveloped by green. He pointed to the sky and screamed.

"WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK IS THAT!!!"

People took note of that exclamation, not wanting to miss out on any information that could help with the current predicament. So they followed the man's line of sight and one by one they looked up.

It did not take even a couple seconds for their sense of calm to go up in smoke. Within minutes the streets were flooded by people, all trying their best to escape the city or get back home.

They did not know what that green force field was nor did they want to know. But what they knew for certain was that this was the nail in the coffin, confirming that all the supernatural bullshit they had seen was real.

Some were in such a panic that they drove onto the sidewalks and in the process, people were run over. Whether or not those people were dead, the drivers did not care. Their only thoughts were to preserve their own lives.

Others chose to stay indoors, cooped up within the safety of their homes. Locking their doors in hope that this would blow over and everything would be eventually settled. They prioritized protecting their family and homes.

Parents ran to find their children and secure their safety. Schools began lock downs. Employees left work, businesses closed their stores. It was pandemonium. Spreading like a virus, this mass hysteria took over the city. People were trampled under the stampede of people. Cars were crashed all for the sake of leaving the city.

Alas, everything was in vain. All around the outskirts of the city was a green transparent barrier separating them from the outside world. They were blocked from taking another step.

Still some were reluctant to accept it as it was and tried to push through the barrier, to no avail. Even the cars they drove couldn't go through. With wasted efforts they all sunk into despair.
