Chapter 1 - Descent of Chaos [ 1 ]

May 3rd, New York City (2:30 PM EST)

Warm rays of sunlight pierced through the green veil of leaves blanketing the canopy of trees, illuminating the shade below. A cool breeze blew, rustling the leaves as the birds sung along with their melodies.

It was peaceful.

All sorts of people from different walks of life strolled through the pathways, taking in the calming atmosphere of their surroundings. Towards the side of the path was a young man sitting on a bench.

He wore a black and white hoodie, black jeans, and a pair of matching white Adidas to complete the look. His black hair swayed along with the wind. A gentle smile could be seen on his face as he enjoyed the scenery around him.

His name was Kai Serin. An 18 year old high school senior, who was currently on a field trip to visit 2 of New York City's art museums.

Though it was a field trip on paper, it was just an excuse for the art teacher to bring her students over to explore the city and have fun. She had wanted to reward her students for their hard work. They had completed and submitted their art pieces for the Advanced Placement Studio Art's assessment ahead of schedule.

She was elated. Not only were they early but their pieces were truly amazing. The quality of their art was outstanding. Having taken part in the course in the past as well, she could tell that her students would likely all score highly. Especially her 2 star artists, Kai being one of the 2.

They deserved a well earned break.

As such they only spent a total of 1 and a half hours viewing the museums, spending the remainder of their time touring the various unique shops and restaurants.

And since they wanted to visit different places, they decided to split the group up. Most of them were either 17 or 18 years old, so naturally the art teacher gave them a degree of freedom. She trusted them. It was a testament to how close the class had gotten with their teacher.

Currently they have split into three groups. A group of 2 and two groups of 3. The only catch was meeting up every 30 minutes. As their guardian, the teacher was still responsible for them, so she would not neglect her responsibilities.

Kai and a girl named Sia Pendragon had paired up to be the group of 2. She was wearing a simple deep blue sundress and a pair of converse. Her sun kissed golden skin and blonde hair complimented her outfit. Sia was an enchanting beauty.

Taking a sip of the coffee they had bought a few streets over, at a local cafe, Kai immersed himself in calmness. Though he had been here numerous times over the years, he was still fond of the mesmerizing tranquility of this place. Within the city that never sleeps, the busiest epicenter of the northeast, there was actually a park with such an atmosphere.

Kai turned to Sia, feeling her gaze on him. The beautiful girl was dazingly staring at him, causing him to blush a little. Although they had gotten together and were now boyfriend and girlfriend, Kai could hardly control his emotions.

He still could not believe that they were actually dating. Kai was now in a relationship with Sia Pendragon, his dream girl. It has been less than a month since he asked her out, fully expecting to be rejected. But much to his surprise, Sia had actually said yes.

Kai had simply been ecstatic. He had a crush on her since their sophomore year and now 3 years later that crush became his girlfriend.

Unbeknownst to him, Sia had actually wanted to experience what having a boyfriend was like for quite a while now. However, she just didn't have the time to date. Sia was a varsity athlete for volleyball in the fall, as well as track and field in both the winter and spring.

She just had too many things on her plate. Without even mentioning the volunteer work she does during the weekends, just the workload of her many Advanced Placement classes were already enough to take away most of her free time. She still needed to attend National Honors Society meetings.

Fortunately, high school was coming to an end and as such most of these responsibilities had either ended or were coming to an end as graduation approached. So with her new found time, she decided that it was as good a time as any to start dating.

Now, she was looking at her boyfriend with a blank stare, obviously lost in thought. She also could not believe that Kai of all people would ask her out and date her.

Kai was, simply put, an artistic genius, a natural born artist, a once in a generation talent. In almost all mediums of visual arts, he not only excelled in them, he exceeded expectations time and time again. Whether it was traditional drawing, photography, painting, digital, or even origami, Kai was an expert pushing the bounds of the medium.

It seemed as though this young genius could master any medium if he invested a week's worth of time into the craft. His terrifying comprehension abilities were on full display. The only problem was finding ways to keep him interested to develop his skills further.

From one of her friends, Sia heard that Kai was able to create drawings as realistic as black and white photographs when he took his first drawing class in their freshman year. At first she was flabbergasted, thinking that her friend was simply exaggerating in an attempt to piss her off as she wasn't that great at drawing.

However, when she entered the advanced drawing class last year and saw his pieces, she was stunned and mesmerized. Her friend did not lie in the slightest, if it weren't for the teacher telling them beforehand, she and the class would have dismissed them as just photographs. Yet that wasn't the most shocking thing they heard from their teacher.
