"The donkey calls the other one Long-ear."
Cyan jumped. "Sweet Minicha, Amethyst."
En went stiff.
"Is that how medieval Europeans used to talk?" Grandma asked.
Amethyst scowled. "And the kids don't give you funny looks?"
"My expressions might be literal to a fault but at least they aren't archaic."
Ame muttered something that sounded like words, but En couldn't be sure.
"So, why are you here?" Kari asked.
"To check on my charge."
En said, "Atty is sleeping, but he managed to chug some ice cream down, so I think that's a good sign."
Ame nodded and headed towards their bedroom.
"Where are you going?" En asked.
"Check on the cat."
"He doesn't need to be checked on," En mumbled. "He just ate and went back to sleep."
A blond little boy ran into the room. "Atty's all tucked in with his puppy teddy!"
"Puppy teddy?" Vi asked.
