Chapter 25 - Episode 24

***Amethyst***

Ame got out her sewing and measuring supplies.

"Why don't we do you first, Allie?" Ame smiled.

"Mom, this is a work thing for you, right?" Allie put her hands on her hips. "You should go first."

"I don't mind waiting. Hannah would help me if I asked."

Alastair barged into Ame's house. "I'm starving! What is there to eat?"

Ame glared at him. "You sure are talkative here. Cyan said that you can be hard to talk to."

the boy squirmed in place. "I'm not sure what to say... We were barely beginning to connect, until that creepy old guy showed up."

"Creepy old guy?" Allie asked.

"Yeah! Oh, Cole drew a picture of him. He looks like this!"

Alle's eyes widened before she fainted.

Lucy gasped. "Allie!"

Alastair stared at the picture. "Know he's creepy, but didn't think anyone would pass out..."

Why did Allie pass out when seeing that picture?

Kai carried Allie to bed.

Violet sighed. "It could also be that Star knows I'll come running if he screams, too."

When he returned, Ame said, "Thanks, Kai."

"No problem, Mom! I'm the oldest, so have to take care of my sisters! Bet that Allie's just fainted because she's nervous for her upcoming ceremony."

"Maybe..."

Vi rubbed Ame's back. "Maybe work on your own. You need to start making your dress, right?"

"I was planning on making the girls' first, but it isn't looking like either of them will feel up to it today."

"I'll find Star something to eat. I'm sure he's starving after that crazy training spree. After that, I'll help you with yours."

Kai smiled at his brother-in-law. "If I tell you a story, will you let the girls have some girly time?"

"I don't need a story! I am not a kid!" Alastair put a hand on his hip. "But, fine."

Vi whispered in Ame's ear, "Given our present company, we should probably do this in your room. Why don't you move your supplies while I take care of my brother?"

Alastair did just barge into her house...

Violet came in soon after Ame got everything situated.

"What did you feed your brother?" Ame asked.

"Kai and Ed got him a couple tuna sandwiches."

"You don't want him having wine, right? What did you do about that?"

"Ed got him a soda out of your things."

Ame furrowed her eyebrows. "Does he drink caffeine?"

"Not in coffee form for sure."

Kids usually didn't like the taste. Ame sometimes had to drink it because it had the opposite effect on her than most people had.

Violet stared at the feathers on the nearby table. "How did you get those?"

Ame sighed. "It's good to put them to good use. We ate the ducks and used their fat to cook. Once I'm done with the scarf, I'll probably use them for bedding."

"What kind of dress were you planning to make?"

"A purple one."

Vi put the tape measure around Ame's chest. "I need a little more to go off of."

A playful smile appeared on Ame's face. "You'll see."

Amethyst's daughter-in-law sighed as she finished measuring her waist. "You're so skinny, Mom." Vi put the tape around Ame's waist again. "Which is insane given how much sausage you eat."

Ame laughed and puffed up her girlish chest. "Where do you think Kai gets his ability to eat a lot and not gain weight from, huh? Certainly isn't that bland-food eating husband of mine."

Vi sighed again.

"Isn't your brother the same way?"

"It can be concerning, though. He has enough to worry about as it is."

Hannah wasn't kidding when she said Vi had favorites...

"You should be careful with what you let him eat, Ame."

"Your family feeds the kid waffles..."

Violet's cheeks were like tomatoes. "Multi-grain waffles!"

"Is that really better?"

"Yes!"

Ame narrowed her eyes at her daughter-in-law. "What the kid needs is more meat!"

"Meat? He does eat plenty of tuna. Though, not as much as Enji."

Lulu poked her head into the room. "Mom, have you been talking about Dad? He's been sneezing a lot. Alistair too. Kai said that it's because someone must be talking about them."

Violet scoffed. "That's a myth!"

Ame stifled a laugh. "Speaking of sneezing, how are you feeling?"

Lucy showed off her muscles. "I'm fine now. Allie though is still asleep. She keeps mumbling 'grandpa', which is weird as we never met our grandparents."

Sadly, they would never be able to. Ame's parents were long dead. As were Ed's.

Violet grinned. "Then let's take your measurements!"

The girl tilted her head. "For what?"

Ame ruffled her daughter's blond locks. "So I can make you a new dress. I need to make myself one for work. I'd like you to come with me."

"Allie, too?"

"Allie, too."

Vi smiled. "What color dress do you want?"

"Lulu already picked." Ame got out the light blue thread she'd already picked.

"Right... Mom instincts never go away."

"Violet, can you remind me to get either a blue ribbon or white?"

Violet put her hands on her hips. "Let me take care of that. My dress is pretty much done."

"Do you need to hem it or something?" Ame asked.

"I'm not sure yet. I need to look at it again."

Lulu's eyes widened. "Vi is always so fast."

Violet's cheeks reddened. "I wouldn't say that. I took my time on it. It took days to decide what I wanted it to look like."

"And there's nothing wrong with that." Ame rubbed the back of her neck. "I wish I could be more like that myself."

"Mom, if you have time, could you make some snowflakes in my dress?"

Ame ruffled Lulu's hair. She wished she had called her mommy like she usually did, though. Her little girl was growing up so fast. She even nearly took down Alastair. "Of course, I can."

"Vi?" Lulu whispered, looking over Ame's shoulder.

Ame turned around and saw her daughter-in-law had downcast eyes. Was Violet missing her own mom? Violet hadn't talked about her much. Did Hannah know what she was like? Ame should find out more. Violet was her daughter and Alastair was her Key Keeper. She had to take care of them when Hannah couldn't.
