Chapter 5 - Love Bites

Mara sauntered over to the bar and began mixing a cocktail with practiced ease. "I hope you don't mind gin," she said, glancing over her shoulder in Jake's Direction.

As she worked, he couldn't help but notice the way her sheer black dress clung to her every curve, her long, raven black hair tumbling down her back in a waterfall of silk. She caught him staring and smirked, a playful gleam in her eyes.

She finished and walked over to the couch, offering one of the glasses to Jake.

"Cheers, roomie," she said, raising her glass in a toast. "To a night we'll both remember."

Jake paused for a moment. He couldn't quite wrap his brain around her behavior. "This is a hell of a way for my fantasy to act." he thought as he brought his glass up to meet her toast. They both took a sip of their drinks as Mara eyed him over the rim of her glass. There was something in her gaze that Jake found both playful and unhinged.

Jake decided to throw himself into his fantasy. He placed his glass on the coffee table and looked Mara in the eyes.

"Oh, it's going to be a night to remember all right."

His movements were fast, even for a human. One arm wrapped around her waist pulling her close to him. The other reached up and grabbed a handful of her hair, forcing her head to the side, exposing her neck. Mara let out a little squeal at his forceful movements as he began kissing and licking her neck.

Mara shivered in his grasp, but her lips curled into a wicked smile as his mouth found the sensitive skin of her neck. She tilted her head back, granting him greater access to her throat. She dropped her glass to the floor and grabbed him by the hair with both hands, pulling him closer.

"Mmm, that's more like it," she purred, her eyes closed in pleasure. "You really know how to get my blood pumping, roomie."

Jake dragged his teeth across the flesh of her neck. He reached up and grabbed her by the wrist and yanked her arm behind her back, pinning it in place. He could feel himself losing control as he continued to ravish her neck.

Mara gasped as his teeth raked her skin, a small thrill of fear and excitement coursing through her veins. She struggled against his grip, only spurring Jake on. Overpowering her, he held her arm pinned behind her. Finally he pulled back from her.

Her eyes met his, a challenge in their depths. "You think you can handle me, roomie?" she said, her voice low and sultry. "I'm not like other girls. I need a stronger touch."

Jake grinned at her devilishly. Something inside him felt powerful. Primal. He could no longer resist his urge to dominate her. "In time," his wicked grin grew wider, "You will call me, 'Master'." He shoved her down onto her back and pinned her arms above her head. He started kissing her neck.

Letting go of her arms, he started kissing his way down to her chest. Mara moaned softly as he pressed her into the couch and relished the feel of her arms being pinned. As his kisses moved lower, she arched her back, offering herself up to him, her breath coming in shallow gasps.

A soft giggle escaped her lips. "Master, huh?" she said, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "I'll call you whatever you want, roomie, as long as you keep doing that."

Her emphasis on calling him 'roomie' snapped Jake back to the moment. He stopped ravishing her and stood up suddenly. "Mara," she said gently. "I need you to listen to me, very carefully."

Mara looked up at Jake, a hint of confusion in her eyes at his sudden shift in demeanor. She sat up on the couch and rested her hands in her lap, waiting for him to speak. "I'm listening." she said, her voice calm and steady, despite the storm raging inside her.

Jake gently placed his hand on top of her head, looking into her eyes. "One day, you may grant my desire to be turned, but for now…" his voice trailed off for a second. "For now, I need to stay human. There will be things you need that only a human can provide," he grinned at her impishly. "And I will not be replaced so easily."

Mara gazed up at him, her blue eyes solemn. She nodded slowly, understanding the gravity of what he was telling her. "I won't force you to turn, not if it's not what you want. You will always be my precious human, no matter what."

She leaned her head into the warmth of his hand. "I promise to always take care of you and keep you safe."

Standing, she took Jake's hands into hers and pressed her forehead to his. "Without you, Jake, my life would be infinitely less interesting."

Jake stood there for a moment. Her exotic smell filled his senses. What was this he was feeling? His heart was stirring in his chest in a way it had not done in a very long time. He pulled back and looked into her eyes. "And I will always take care of you. I…" he stammered. "I can't describe how jealous I felt watching you with that punk in the bar."

Mara raised an eyebrow at his words, a smirk forming on her lips. "Jealous, huh?" she said, unable to suppress a chuckle. "Don't worry, roomie, there is only one human that I crave above all others, and that is you."

She leaned in, brushing her lips against his. "After all, who else am I going to cook for and get them to feed me their delicious blood?"

Jake's heart fluttered at her words. He had only just met Mara, but he felt drawn to her. There was something inescapable about her beauty. He wouldn't run away now even if he could. On some level, he started to wonder if this was actually real. That he wasn't suffering from some delusion as he died. "There is no way," he thought as he pushed his doubts away.

"At the risk of becoming anemic…" his voice trailed off as he held up his wrist, offering it to her.

Mara grinned, her fangs glinting in the soft candlelight of the penthouse. Gently she took his offered wrist into her hands and raised it to her mouth, stroking her thumb gently over the sensitive skin. "You know just what I like, roomie," she purred, leaning in closer. She brought his wrist to her lips, her fangs piercing his skin in a quick, painless bite. She drank deeply, savoring the taste of his blood on her tongue.

When she finished, she licked the wound closed, leaving behind only a small red mark. Looking up at him, she ran her tongue across her lips, her blue eyes sparkling. "Mmm, delicious as always," she said, grinning wickedly. "You truly are the perfect roommate, roomie."

Jake grabbed her by the hair and moved his face close to hers, his breath hot against her ear. "One, call me something other than 'roomie', and two…" Jake leaned in and kissed her forcefully.

Mara gasped in surprise as he grabbed her hair, but she quickly melted into his kiss, returning it with equal fervor. She pulled away after a moment, her lips hovering inches from his. "Well, well, well, it seems my little roomie has some bite after all, " she said, a sultry smile crossing her lips.

"As for what to call you…" she trailed off, pretending to consider. "How about… mine." She wrapped her arms around him, pulling him closer, kissing Jake passionately.

Mara moaned softly as Jake deepened their kiss, her hands sliding up his back as they pulled one another closer together. As the kiss lingered, she finally pulled away, a sly grin on her lips. "Oh, roomie," she murmured. "I think we are going to get along just fine"
