Chapter 9: Royal Welcomes and Pudding Plots
The castle was an architectural wonder, blending the designs of traditional Japanese castles with the intricate details of a Western palace. Gargoyles with bunny ears lined the rooftops, and moats filled with what looked like sparkling lemonade surrounded the outer walls.
Hiroto muttered, "Either that's a fancy drink, or we're not in any typical kingdom."
Riku leaned over, trying to get a taste, only to be pulled back by Luna. "Let's not sample every body of water we come across, alright?"
The trio was ushered into a grand hall, where a majestic lioness Queen sat on a throne made of interwoven tree branches. She looked at Hiroto with a hint of surprise. "Our legend spoke of the Goblin Prince's return, but I never truly believed..."
Hiroto raised a hand, slightly overwhelmed, "Uh, just to clarify, I'm not any prince. Just a regular guy turned goblin. But I've been called cool, if that helps?"
The Queen chuckled, a deep, resonant sound. "Regardless of titles, we need your help. Our realm is being threatened by a dark sorcerer who seeks to drain it of its essence."
Luna stepped forward, her scholarly instincts kicking in. "Tell us more. Understanding this threat could also help us find our way back."
As the Queen relayed the dire situation, Riku wandered off, following the enticing aroma of something delicious. He found himself in the royal kitchens, face-to-face with a flustered porcupine pastry chef.
"You!" Riku pointed, eyes wide. "You're making the legendary five-layer moss pudding!"
The chef sighed, "It's for tonight's banquet. But the recipe's been tampered with! It's a disaster!"
Riku's eyes sparkled with mischief. "Fear not! I am Riku, pudding enthusiast and occasional hero. We shall craft the ultimate dessert together!"
Back in the throne room, Luna and Hiroto devised a plan with the Queen to counter the sorcerer. Just as they were finalizing details, Riku burst in, triumphantly holding aloft a spoon dripping with moss pudding.
The Queen raised an eyebrow, "Is this part of your strategy?"
Hiroto laughed, "More like our secret weapon. Riku's pudding skills are unmatched."
The Queen smiled, "Then tonight, at the banquet, we gather our allies, reveal our plan, and enjoy some exceptional pudding."
Our heroes had found themselves in another unexpected quest, but with allies new and old, they felt ready for whatever challenges lay ahead.
