Silence filled the whole room as soon as he said those words. Everyone was thrown into a state of shock, even the pet master himself had a hard time believing his ears. He would have loved to see it as a joke and simply laugh it off, but from the look on this vampires face, anyone could tell that he wasn't one to joke around. Different kinds of emotions circulated around the room; relief, disappointment, panic. But the most prominent emotion most felt was sympathy, sympathy for the poor human who got to be picked by this seemingly ruthless vampire.
Meanwhile, the human in question didn't know how exactly she was meant to feel at that moment. She didn't know whether she should feel happy or fearful of the thought that she has been picked to be a pet. If she had stayed here, she would be at the mercy of the pet master. If she goes with this vampire, she would be at his mercy. Both situations bring about the same ending results. She might as well make the most of her life right now before she eventually meets her untimely demise.
"Excuse me sir, but I believe there are many more better options to choose. Would you consider looking at others before making a choice?", the pet master finally said once he found his voice. The vampire, who had been looking at his newly chosen pet, turned his icy glaze towards the pet master, his expression still unreadable. The pet master froze up at the look he received in response. A chill ran down his spine as the vampire passed him without a word and walked out of the room to the front desk. From his reaction, there was obviously no point in trying to persuade him to reconsider his decision. It was already obvious to everyone that his mind was set and there was no going back on it.
The pet master let out a sigh of frustration and turned to glare at the bewildered human in disdain. The human trembled at his fierce glare. He stepped closer to her cage and crouched down in front of her. "You are one annoyingly lucky human. Hmmm maybe not so lucky. I hope you suffer in your new owners' hands, ten times what you would have in mine". He seethed menacingly before bringing out the keys from his pocket and opening the cage. She scooted farther into the cage in an attempt to get away from him, but he swiftly reached into the cage and pulled her out by a chunk of her hair in his fist. She cried out in pain as he dragged her all the way to the front desk, where her new owner was waiting.
"Shut the hell up!", the pet master seethed as they reached the front. It felt like her hair was being ripped from her scalp at that point. Her eyes filled with unshed tears as her hands desperately reached to try and release his hold on her, but to no avail. Then all of a sudden, as they stepped into the front of the store, it all stopped. She felt no more pain and the hand that was gripping her hair was no longer there. Her face crumpled in confusion as she looked up to see her new owner holding the pet master's hand in a tight grip.
"S-sir, if you could please let go-", the pet master said in a pain stricken voice. The vampire glanced over at the confused human on the floor before directing his icy glare back at the pet master. "I prefer my goods to remain intact", he said simply, his grip on the pet master's hand tightening slightly. "A-as you wish, sir", the pet master muttered nervously and let out a relieved sigh once he released his hand. Once he let go, the vampire took out a handkerchief from his pocket and wiped his hands with it. He glanced at his watch and said nonchalantly, "Her information". The pet master glared at the human on the floor before going behind the counter to give the vampire her file.
The human remained rooted to the ground in front of them, her eyes staring bewildered at her new owner. Never in her life would she have imagined that a vampire would help a mere human. 'But then again he just wanted to keep me intact, so there is no saying he won't be worse', she thought and grimaced slightly. The vampire turned to her and caught her still staring blankly at him. Seeing this, she immediately got back to her senses and turned her gaze to the floor.
He turned upon hearing the pet master approaching them. "Here are her files. They contain all her personal information form the time arrived here to date", he said begrudgingly as he handed the file over to her new master. He opened it and scanned the first few pages of it before closing it and nodding slightly to the pet master. "The balance will be forwarded to you shortly", he simply said to him and turned his gaze to his new pet. From when the pet master returned, she was already looking up at them. He gestured for her to follow him to which she reluctantly obliged. But as she tried to stand on her own two feet, she stumbled slightly and quickly held onto the wall next to her. She subconsciously glanced at her new owner and let out a sigh of relief when he had his back to her. 'Seems he didn't notice', she thought and tried her best to match his long strides towards the door.
Just before he opened the door, the pet master spoke up again. "Pardon me once more, my Lord, but would you like to get any other thing, like new equipment to help her behave. She is quite stubborn", his eyes shifted to her in a sneer at the last part. The vampire paused for a second and glanced at the neat watch on his wrist. Without a word of response, he walked back to the counter and scanned through the varieties of tools with his constant nonchalant expression. His hands moved to pick something from the table and handed it over to the pet master. From behind him, the human watched as the pet master's expectant expression dropped slightly. He looked at her owner in confusion but didn't speak and just bagged what he picked. She couldn't imagine what it is that her new owner had gotten to make his expression shift like that, and she wasn't able to see it either. As soon as the goods were given back to him, he turned to leave, his new pet in tow.
Stepping out of the pet shop for the first time in her thirteen years of being held hostage, she squinted her eyes at the immense amount of sunlight. As her vision adjusted slowly, she stared in awe at the scene in front of her. Cars of different shapes and sizes driving past her, humans and vampires walking the busy streets, birds squawking in the distance, the greenery . Everything was so overwhelming for her, a stray tear fell down her cheek. The world has changed so much in the past few years, and she was about to experience it all, in her new life as a pet.
