After defeating the Destroyer, Thor prepared to return to Asgard to confront Loki. But before that, he had to say goodbye to his girlfriend, Jane. When he returns to the town, he is surprised to see Ivan.
Thor respected Ivan, who had helped him, "Sage Ivan, when did you arrive?"
Ivan smiled at Thor, exuding a new aura that resembled Thor's own.
"I just got here and watched a good show. You and your brother have a love-hate relationship. But I know you're in a hurry to get back to Asgard and deal with your crisis, so don't waste time with me. Say what you need to say to your girlfriend."
After Ivan finished speaking, Thor stepped aside awkwardly and approached Jane. They talked about their experiences and the ordeal they had faced together. Despite their strong bond now, they knew cracks might appear in the future.
After addressing his matters, Thor returned to Ivan.
"Sage Ivan, I need a favor. I must return to Asgard immediately. Please take care of Jane for me."
Ivan nodded in agreement. For him, it was a small effort. However, he pointed to the wreckage of the Destroyer and said, "Sure, but you know my rules. In return, the remains of this Destroyer are mine."
"Okay," Thor agreed without hesitation. He knew that the power he had just recovered was much greater than usual. It was better to owe Ivan a favor. To Thor, Ivan was an intelligent and incredibly powerful person. He had experienced Ivan's strength firsthand. Trading the Destroyer's wreckage for Ivan's promise was a good deal.
Ivan hid his excitement well. The wreckage, useless to Thor, was a treasure to Ivan. The Destroyer was Asgard's most powerful war machine, involving not only Asgard but also other gods, including those of Olympus.
Analyzing the wreckage could reveal the secrets behind its creation. Moreover, the runes used held the wisdom Odin gained by sacrificing an eye. Even without this, the material was among the top metals in the universe. Ivan had indeed struck gold.
With Ivan's nod, Thor felt relieved. He trusted Ivan's protection and believed no one could harm Jane. Thor contacted Heimdall, the guardian of the Rainbow Bridge. A colorful brilliance enveloped Thor and the four warriors, and they disappeared.
Ivan watched them leave, then walked over to the Destroyer's wreckage. With a flick of his sleeve, an invisible suction force pulled the wreckage into his sleeve, astonishing Jane, Daisy, and Dr. Selvig.
"Oh, my God! What kind of ability is this? It's amazing," Jane exclaimed.
"I call this trick 'Dimensional Sleeve.'
Using scientific theory, you can think of it as spatial manipulation. I've created a dimensional space to store the wreckage."
Jane, who had been sad about Thor's departure, was fascinated by Ivan's explanation. She eagerly asked him questions, forgetting her previous sadness.
Ivan had promised Thor to care for Jane, so he patiently answered her simple questions, bridging the gap between them. To Jane, Ivan's casual answers to complex questions were impressive.
Not only Jane and Daisy but also Dr. Selvig listened with great interest. Ivan explained complex concepts in the simplest, most understandable way. They finally understood why Asgard honored Ivan as a sage.
As Ivan spoke earnestly, Jane, Daisy, and Dr. Selvig listened carefully, creating a harmonious atmosphere. However, this peace was soon disrupted when a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent approached Ivan and demanded, "Sir, you took something that didn't belong to you. Please hand over the wreckage."
"Hey! You are being unreasonable. Mr. Ivan obtained the wreckage through a deal, and we can testify. Are you trying to rob it?"
Jane, thrilled by Ivan's theoretical knowledge, was angered by the interruption. She transformed from a curious scholar into a fierce defender, confronting the agent aggressively.
Seeing the situation escalate, Coulson, who had just tended to his injury, approached with a gentle smile. He tried to calm the situation, saying, "Don't be impulsive, miss! Since this gentleman owns the wreckage, we can buy it. Those wreckages are alien and could be dangerous. This check should cover any losses."
Jane, confused by Coulson's mild manner and shocked by the amount on the check, turned to Ivan. The decision on what to do with the Destroyer's wreckage was his.
"Sorry, I'm not short of money and have no plans to sell the wreckage. The items I traded should be considered personal property, and you shouldn't use force."
Ivan was amused. He had a good impression of Coulson from the movies, but I didn't expect him to be so assertive. Still, it was normal. Coulson was an agent with a complex role, not just the simple man he appeared to be.
"Are you trying to fool me? According to you, the land we are standing on doesn't belong to the United States. You know better than me how Mexico became part of the United States."
Coulson's face showed a hint of helplessness. "If that's the case, then I'm sorry. As the FBI..."
Ivan interrupted, "Enough with the fake identities. I know you are from S.H.I.E.L.D. I know your identity, Phil Coulson. You've admired superheroes since childhood, especially Captain America. You created a database on superhumans, joined the Army Rangers, and now you're an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Eighth Bureau."
Coulson was startled. He and the other agents reacted by reaching for their pistols. Their identities were supposed to be confidential, but Ivan had just recited Coulson's life story, making their scalps tingle.
Coulson's gentle smile disappeared as he stared sternly at Ivan. "Who are you?"
"Who I am is not something you would like to know. I can't handle this situation. You'll need to contact your director directly and ask for instructions. I have some things to discuss with Nick Fury."
Coulson pondered momentarily, then discreetly signaled a few agents to stay alert and watch Ivan while he walked into an armored vehicle to report to Nick Fury.
While Coulson contacted Nick Fury, a strange phenomenon began in the sky. Despite the absence of dark clouds, the surroundings fell into darkness. Ivan sensed violent fluctuations in spatial energy.
The Rainbow Bridge was being activated! Only Asgard's ultimate destructive weapon could transmit such immense energy fluctuations to Earth. All kinds of light energy converged, opening space cuts with enough power to slice through a planet.
Ivan felt a bit puzzled. Given Loki's current strength and cunning, it should have been easy for him to deal with the Frost Giants. Why, then, had he activated the Rainbow Bridge to potentially destroy Jotunheim, the Frost Giants' realm, as in the original plot?
Unbeknownst to Ivan, Loki had no intention of destroying Jotunheim. He activated the Rainbow Bridge to intimidate Laufey, tease Thor, and provoke Odin. It was a grand prank.
The result, however, mirrored the original plot. Thor, the God of Thunder, destroyed the Rainbow Bridge at a critical moment, saving Jotunheim. Loki fell into the space turbulence in front of Thor and the newly awakened Odin, his body swallowed by the chaotic space.
Odin and Thor didn't know that Loki's body began to dissipate immediately upon falling into the turbulence, turning into nothing within moments. It was merely a projection. Loki's actual body had been hidden all along. His illusions were so convincing that even Odin was deceived.
Everyone believed Loki was dead. Only Frigga, the goddess of magic, suspected something off but kept her thoughts to herself. Thus, under everyone's watchful eyes, Loki secretly left Asgard and embarked on another mischievous journey across the universe.
