"Fuck, you bastard, I'm going to kill you!"
Logan screamed, his chest pierced, yet brimming with energy. He turned around, ready to confront Ivan with all his might.
"Don't be angry. You're immortal anyway. This injury is trivial. Pull out the knife, and you'll recover immediately."
Ivan nonchalantly grabbed and removed the dagger. The chest wound healed swiftly, leaving Charles bewildered, thinking it must be an illusion.
Undeterred by the initial attack, Eric levitated metal objects in the vicinity, hurling them at Ivan and Logan.
Unfazed, Ivan absorbed the kinetic energy, letting the metal objects collide harmlessly with him. Covered in an assortment of metal items, Ivan remained unscathed. Meanwhile, Logan, though enduring wounds and even being impaled by a steel bar, shrugged off the injuries. He promptly pulled out the steel bar, swiftly recovering.
Despite the lack of mortal danger, the pain irked Logan. In frustration, he roared and extended three bone claws from each hand toward Eric.
As a concerned friend of Eric, Charles couldn't stand idly by. His telepathic abilities delved into Logan's mind, revealing an embarrassing truth. Ivan and Logan were strangers before the confrontation, their clash fueled by a misunderstanding.
"Crack"
Ivan snapped his fingers, disrupting Charles's telepathy. The mental intrusion ceased, and Charles lost control over Logan. Stopping mid-charge, Logan's dull eyes signaled Charles's success. Eric, reassured, continued his assault with wolf-like claws. Eric, reacting swiftly, shielded himself with metal objects, temporarily halting Logan. Seizing the moment, Eric pulled Charles away from the escalating confrontation.
The fierce battle of the four naturally alarmed the other people in the bar. Screams resonated, glass shattered, and chaos ensued as everyone fled for their lives.
Eric initially wanted to continue the fight with Ivan, but Charles, wisely sensing the escalating situation, made a swift exit with Eric. Realizing the potential repercussions of their actions, particularly the panic they could cause among the entire human race, they opted for a strategic retreat.
Ivan, too, had no intention of escalating the situation. He grabbed Logan, maneuvered through the chaotic crowd, and found a secluded spot. Employing the Displacement Phantom, they returned to Skull Island.
"Wow, wow!"
Long-distance space travel with the phantom proved uncomfortable, especially for Logan, who hadn't experienced it before and was now airsick. The sensation felt akin to being tossed inside a tanker during a turbulent game. As they appeared, Logan promptly vomited, still affected by the bar's drinks.
"You bastard, I... I won't let it go..." Logan grumbled amidst his vomiting, feeling thoroughly embarrassed.
"Sorry, I'm in a hurry. Our destination is here. Now, let's go see your students together."
"Destination?" Logan, bewildered, surveyed his surroundings. They were now in a lush forest, surrounded by flourishing water plants and fresh air. Just moments ago, he was in the city. "Is this your ability? Instant teleportation is incredible."
"Indeed! Come with me!" Ivan led the way, changing his appearance along the route. He briefly explained to Logan that it was safe here, urging him to focus on their imminent visit to the students.
Logan, unfazed, followed Ivan. He was curious about the truth behind Ivan's earlier statements—were there many mutants like him?
As they approached the base, the construction appeared more complete. The entrance gate, a massive iron structure, was over ten meters high. Upon verifying Ivan's identity, the guards immediately granted access, without questioning Logan.
Entering the base, Logan was astounded by the level of technology surpassing the current world. As they explored, they reached a manor-style building, which turned out to be a school. Walking through a concrete path, they reached the playground where thirty or forty children were playing.
Logan, with sharp eyes, quickly discerned the differences among these children. One boy exhibited extraordinary flexibility, moving like an ape and executing a slam dunk from ten meters away. Another boy had feet slightly larger than normal, walking up the wall with an unseen suction force. A little girl manipulated a water polo, transforming it into various shapes, and displaying a range of abilities such as creating flowers, trees, lions, and tigers.
In addition, there were children with cheetah claws, transforming hands into wings, and turning the ground into soft mud. The variety of abilities was astounding.
Ivan took a deep breath and decided to share more information with Logan.
"Logan, what you see here is not exactly the Earth you know. This place is called Skull Island, and it exists in a different dimension. The creatures you encountered, some of which should be extinct, are a result of various experiments and events that occurred here. The laws of nature are different in this dimension, and it has allowed for the survival and even evolution of species that might have disappeared on your Earth."
"As for the children, they are mutants, like you and me. But their experiences with death are different. Many of them faced dangerous situations due to their powers manifesting at an early age. Some of them were rejected or even attacked by society because of their abilities. That's why we brought them here, to provide a haven where they can learn, grow, and harness their powers."
Logan raised an eyebrow, absorbing this new information. "So, it's a sanctuary for mutants?"
"Yes, exactly. It's a sanctuary, a refuge where mutants can live without fear of persecution. We aim to create a community where they can develop their abilities, receive education, and be prepared for the challenges that may arise in the future. It's a place where they can belong."
Logan grunted, understanding the importance of such a sanctuary. "Alright, I get it. But what about you? What's your goal in all of this?"
Ivan looked at Logan with a serious expression. "My goal is to ensure the survival and prosperity of mutants. I've seen the potential threats that mutants might face in the future, and I want to make sure they are prepared. I also have personal reasons for doing this, reasons that involve the fate of mutants and the world itself. I believe that by creating a community like this, mutants can not only survive but also thrive in the face of adversity."
Logan took a moment to process the information. "So, what's my role in all of this? Why did you specifically seek me out?"
"Logan, you're a survivor. You've faced countless challenges and conflicts, and you've come out on top. Your experiences and your abilities make you an ideal mentor for these young mutants. You can teach them not just how to survive physically but also how to navigate the complexities of the world. Your resilience, combat skills, and unique perspective are invaluable assets to this community. I want you to be their teacher, guide, and protector."
Logan crossed his arms, considering Ivan's words. After a moment, he nodded. "Alright, I'll do it. But I want one thing in return."
Ivan arched an eyebrow. "What is it?"
"I want the truth. The full truth. About this place, about you, and your plans. No more half-truths or omissions. If I'm going to be a part of this, I need to know everything."
Ivan hesitated for a moment, then nodded. "Fair enough, Logan. You have my word. I'll tell you everything you want to know."
With an understanding reached, Logan and Ivan continued their conversation, delving into the intricate details of Skull Island, its inhabitants, and the mysterious plans that lay ahead.
