China, emerging from the ravages of World War II and facing numerous internal and external challenges, was deep in the throes of the Great Depression. However, it's essential to acknowledge that China's populace demonstrated remarkable resilience. Against this backdrop, the People's Republic of China emerged and successfully withstood the pressures, embarking on an ambitious nationwide construction endeavor.
Despite a paucity of financial resources, the Chinese government adeptly managed to avert an economic crisis. Lacking ready cash, they resorted to using food stamps, cloth stamps, and match stamps, crafting goods by hand due to the absence of mechanical equipment. This collective effort captivated the nation, as every citizen was fully engaged in the extensive enterprise.
While China's demographic advantage resolved many challenges, a critical shortfall remained in terms of technical expertise. It was at this juncture that the arrival of Ivan, bringing with him technical knowledge and materials, proved invaluable.
When Ivan disembarked from his plane, he was warmly received by Major General Xu, an unfamiliar figure to Ivan from his past life, implying that he was not a well-known personality. Major General Xu wholeheartedly welcomed Ivan's arrival, with a particular gleam in his eyes as Ivan handed over crucial documents from his suitcase, documents of great significance to China.
Ivan's fluent and natural Chinese proficiency astounded Major General Xu and facilitated amicable communication. As they conversed, Major General Xu introduced Ivan to a variety of local dishes like Mapo Tofu, Braised Lion Head, and Sixi Balls. To his surprise, Ivan exhibited a deep knowledge of these dishes, describing their origins and intricacies.
General Xu gradually realized Ivan's profound understanding of Chinese culture, leading to an engaging conversation encompassing China's history, customs, geography, and culture. Their dialogue was a source of mutual satisfaction.
Aware that the flattery was likely politically motivated, Ivan was nonetheless pleased, as he recognized that, at that moment, China's most pressing need was brilliant scientific minds like his.
After their satisfying meal, General Xu took his leave, leaving behind a guard named Zhao Guohua, who would head a team of soldiers tasked with ensuring Ivan's safety. Zhao Guohua would also oversee Ivan's various needs while in China.
Ivan scrutinized Zhao Guohua, observing his tall stature, approximately forty years of age, and the callused hands with thick knuckles indicative of a dedicated martial artist. It appeared that Zhao Guohua had practiced rigorous martial arts, possibly including Iron Palm, given the intimidating presence he exuded through his movements.
Once everyone else had exited, Ivan extended his hand to shake Zhao Guohua's hand. "Judging by your appearance, Captain Zhao, I can tell you're well-versed in martial arts. Coincidentally, I've also trained in Chinese Kung Fu. Perhaps we can find an opportunity to exchange knowledge."
Zhao Guohua was taken aback by Ivan's words. Initially, he had underestimated Ivan, perceiving him solely as a frail scientist. However, Ivan's display of strength, shattering tables and chairs with his punch, contradicted this assumption. Zhao Guohua realized that Ivan possessed formidable martial arts skills.
The commotion in the room alerted the guards outside, who prepared to intervene, but Zhao Guohua halted their actions. Deeply impressed, Zhao Guohua bowed respectfully to Ivan, acknowledging his prior ignorance.
"No need to apologize; your reaction was quite natural. After all, appearances can be deceiving. I understand your concerns about causing harm," Ivan reassured Zhao Guohua.
Zhao Guohua, now redoubling his respect for Ivan, inquired about his kung fu style and its level.
"I've practiced Neijia, Tai Chi, Five Elements Boxing, Tiger and Crane Style, Xingyi Boxing, and Iron Palm. As for my level, it would be considered Peak Mastery," Ivan replied calmly, his demeanor unwavering.
Zhao Guohua was astonished by Ivan's revelation, for achieving the Peak Mastery level was akin to reaching a state of martial excellence only a few could attain.
"Dr. Ivan, regardless of the outcome, I beseech you to engage in a sparring match with me. My lifelong aspiration is to attain Peak Mastery, even if it means facing death. Just witnessing your abilities once would be worth it," Zhao Guohua fervently expressed his desire.
As they prepared to engage in martial combat, Ivan and Zhao Guohua ventured to an open space within the courtyard. The soldiers who had been protecting Ivan were astounded to learn of the impending martial arts duel. They regarded Captain Zhao as an authentic martial arts expert, capable of remarkable feats like smashing trees with a single palm. In contrast, Ivan appeared unassuming, prompting them to question the wisdom of his challenge.
On the surface, Ivan remained composed, but within, his fighting spirit roared to life. Having spent much of his life in the laboratory, he rarely had the opportunity to apply his martial skills. Meanwhile, Zhao Guohua, aware of his inferiority in raw strength, decided to initiate the confrontation, moving swiftly to Ivan's side and launching a palm strike towards his shoulder.
Ivan greeted Zhao Guohua's palm with a smile, offering no resistance or evasion. However, as their palms made contact, Ivan's shoulders suddenly quivered, and the speed of the impact visibly increased, yet it caused no harm to Ivan.
Recognizing the technique as Iron, Zhao Guohua swiftly withdrew, anticipating Ivan's imminent counterattack.
To the surprise of both combatants, Ivan's attack never materialized. Instead, he abruptly halted his strike, having sensed Zhao Guohua's quick response. They now held each other's measure.
Zhao Guohua, admiring Ivan's capabilities, admitted his earlier underestimation. Ivan's strength had impressed him, and he expressed his desire to witness Ivan's martial prowess.
Ivan revealed his training in Neijia, Tai Chi, Five Elements Boxing, Tiger and Crane Style, Xingyi Boxing, and Iron Palm, and his level of proficiency at Peak Mastery.
Zhao Guohua, overwhelmed by Ivan's revelation, implored him to engage in a friendly martial arts match. His burning desire was to attain the Peak Mastery level, and even if it led to his defeat, he believed it would be a worthwhile pursuit. Ivan agreed, and they readied themselves for their bout.
As they began, they realized the stark contrast in their power. Ivan's strength was akin to flowing water, while Zhao Guohua's was more like steam, filled with impurities. This difference in their abilities led to an inevitable outcome, with Ivan gaining the upper hand.
Their martial exchange unveiled the intricacies of dark energy, Hua Jin, and Peak Mastery, highlighting Ivan's profound mastery. Despite Zhao Guohua's prowess, he recognized the vast gulf in their abilities, with Ivan's Peak Mastery skills representing an almost mythical achievement.
