Every day after school, Lupin visited Ivan to drink a bottle of Ivan's special potion, following Ivan's guidance to enhance his spiritual power.
During this time, Lupin couldn't help but wonder if it was an illusion. He felt that his strength was growing at an unusually rapid pace, especially when he was with Ivan. The results of an hour or two of practice seemed to surpass a week of rigorous training.
Little did Lupin know that Ivan had been secretly implanting nano-robots into his brain while administering the medicine. These nano-robots stimulated Lupin to achieve the most effective training results. To avoid detection by Dumbledore, the stimulation was subtle and wouldn't severely impact Lupin's future development.
A month swiftly passed, and Lupin had managed to conjure a perfect image of a werewolf in his mind in this short period. Although he possessed a natural magical aptitude, the nano-robot assistance was truly differentiating.
Of course, Ivan didn't disappoint Lupin. Following the principles of a superhuman serum, Ivan developed a potion using the magical materials at hand. He divided it into seven doses for Lupin to drink, drastically increasing his physical strength to several times that of an adult and setting the stage for their next plan.
...
Tonight marked the arrival of the full moon. Ivan and Lupin ventured to the school's back mountain, traveling via a secret path to reach a spot beneath a weeping willow tree. It was here that Lupin had always hidden during the full moon nights. Initially, his three lost friends, James, Black, and Peter, had joined him during the most challenging times. However, this time, it was just Ivan accompanying him, as Lupin needed to fully control his werewolf transformation. Dumbledore refrained from supervising the process to prevent the three Gryffindor students from taking matters into their own hands.
As they stood beneath the weeping willow, they awaited the full moon's appearance. Ivan couldn't help but be intrigued by the tree, suspecting it was a semi-sentient plant, energized by magical forces, and worthy of further study. He seized the opportunity to acquire a branch for future use.
As the full moon grew nearer, Lupin appeared a bit nervous. He clutched a vial of wolfsbane potion, a precautionary measure provided by Ivan. In case the transformation went awry, Lupin could drink it to avoid losing control of his feral instincts.
As the moon rose, its radiant beauty was a nightmare for Lupin. His body trembled, expanded, sprouted long hair, his hands morphed into wolf claws, his mouth extended with fangs and sharp teeth, and his eyes emitted a faint green light. The excruciating pain coursing through his body was overshadowed by the bewildering mental changes.
In these days of intensive training guided by Ivan, the once-lifeless imagined giant wolf in Lupin's mind suddenly sprang to life. Previously, it lay motionless with vacant eyes, but now it stood, eyes alert, appearing vividly real.
The giant wolf stared intently at Lupin, exuding an intense presence, ready to pounce at any moment.
Overwhelmed by fear, Lupin could have easily lost his composure, but a shred of determination held him steadfast. In the physical world, Ivan watched Lupin, now entirely transformed into a half-human, half-wolf entity, with oscillating eyes—sometimes calm, sometimes wild. It was a fierce internal battle between reason and animal instinct.
Just when Lupin was about to unleash his spiritual power, Ivan sensed a critical moment in Lupin's mind.
Feeling the increasing intensity of the giant wolf's aura, Lupin was nearly overwhelmed. Yet Ivan's soothing voice penetrated his mind: "Don't give up. No matter how much you dislike it, it's still a part of you. You must accept it, understand it, and control it. You are one."
Ivan's mental strength conveyed warmth to Lupin's mind, helping him regain his crumbling rationality. Lupin summoned his remaining strength and approached the violently pulsating aura of the giant wolf.
The closer he got, the more oppressive it became, but the training he'd undergone with Ivan paid off. A step away, he reached out and touched the giant wolf's head.
Upon contact, the wolf's inherent animal nature flowed into Lupin's consciousness. At first, it felt chaotic, filled with madness, anger, and a savage instinct to kill. However, Ivan once again supplied soothing spiritual energy, helping Lupin navigate the stormy sea of beastly impulses. Lupin gradually engaged with this untamed animal nature, comprehending it with his consciousness.
With Ivan's guidance, Lupin withstood the relentless assault of his wild instincts, remaining as unyielding as a rock. Eventually, his determination led to triumph. The violent aura surrounding the giant wolf began to dissipate, and the feral look in its eyes turned docile.
As Lupin, in his werewolf form under the willow, slowly regained control of his senses, the world before his eyes brightened. He surveyed his surroundings, gazed up at the full moon, and observed his newly furry claws. Finally, Lupin understood—he had succeeded.
"I did it! I finally did it! I no longer need to fear the arrival of the full moon night or worry about going mad and harming others. I've conquered my greatest fear," Lupin thought, tears of relief streaming down his face.
A round of applause broke out behind him, and Ivan's voice followed, "Excellent! A successful first attempt. Your unwavering determination was the key, although I assisted. Congratulations."
Lupin turned toward Ivan, intending to express his gratitude but found himself letting out a wolfish howl. It was then that he remembered he was still in his werewolf form.
Observing the teary-eyed werewolf, Ivan waved his hand. "Don't celebrate just yet. This is only the first step. While you've learned to control your transformation into a werewolf, it's dependent on your state of mind. Any intense emotions, like anger or resentment, will lead to a loss of control. In those moments, you'll be indistinguishable between friend and foe, potentially harming anyone you encounter. This is why we need to take the second step: not only controlling the transformation but also harnessing this power."
Lupin was puzzled, wondering what the second step entailed.
Ivan elaborated, "The second step is simple in principle: use your human rationality to control the wolf's animal nature. While you've managed to maintain your reason during your transformation, your human and wolf consciousness remain separate. Now, we must merge them. You need to envision yourself inside the body of the giant wolf. By doing so, you will no longer be an irrational beast but a wolf with intelligence."
With unwavering trust in Ivan, Lupin closed his eyes again, entered his mental space, and followed Ivan's instructions.
It didn't take long before Lupin's transformation continued. His body swelled, bones shifted, and he gradually adopted a quadrupedal posture. His sharp claws touched the ground, and a tail emerged. He was no longer a half-human, half-wolf creature but a full-fledged grey wolf. Standing at 1.2 meters, his fur flowed in the night breeze. Although he closed his eyes, he exuded an extraordinary presence, majestic and regal.
"Hahaha! Just as I suspected. Given the presence of wolf genes, it's only natural for the transformation to extend beyond a half-human, half-wolf form. Once the wolf genes are fully activated, becoming a complete wolf is entirely possible," Ivan exclaimed with excitement. He was thrilled not only with Lupin's successful control over his werewolf powers but also because his theory had been proven correct.
When Ivan began his research on werewolves, he was intrigued by the transmission mode of lycanthropy, where individuals became werewolves by being bitten and infected. If this was the case, there must be wolf genes in the venom, as well as a fusion agent enabling the integration of wolf genes into the human body. Ivan's interest in this fusion agent grew, as it was related to the success of another experiment.
However, he first needed to determine whether, under the control of the dominant consciousness, the wolf genes could overpower the human genes, allowing a complete transformation into a wolf. As Ivan watched Lupin fully transform into a wolf, he couldn't contain his excitement. If he could decipher the mystery of the fusion agent, he could create various fusion agents that would break down the barriers between different species and humans, potentially resulting in "tiger people," "leopard people," "snake people," and other such hybrids. Of course, Ivan's real focus lay on King Kong and the Skullcrawlers from Skull Island.
In Ivan's mind, he envisioned himself leading a formidable army of hybrids, ready to face countless foes. The prospect of tearing through enemy ranks with a wave of his hand, his soldiers roaring with determination, was an exhilarating thought. Especially when the aliens would eventually invade, Ivan had already started picturing their defeat.
