Up inside a tower so tall, with a peak so far up in the clouds that it looked endless from down below, four, powerful, governing icons of Melysia sat sternly in a room facing one another. These were the four Overseers, and one of them was General Michael. He sighed heavily upon speaking.
"Let's get straight to it. What happened today was unacceptable."
"What, that 'Fifth' of yours nearly costing our northwest borders?" The individual who spoke was Overseer Uriel.
"Tsk… Not that."
"He speaks of the individual who disrupted the conclusion to that battle." The third who spoke was Overseer Chamuel. He was known to possess a phenomenon known as the All-Seeing-Eyes. This granted him All-Knowing-Vision, an unparalleled form of clairvoyance that could read into minds and see things the regular human could not.
"Yes. The one who completely changed the tide of that fight in minutes."
"Mhm… Your commanders were supposed to lose there at the end, Michael." Uriel smirked. "Don't you think you're letting them off too easily after that one? Especially that kid, Klyson."
Michael grunted. "Had it not been for Enzo's interest, Klyson would be long gone."
"Unfortunate for the others though, that 'Sixth,' 'Ninth,' and 'Tenth'." Chamuel read into Michael's mind. He saw things that had long lost its shock-value.
"Prices were paid, Chamuel. That was the least of my concern."
"I know. You seem to be more concerned about the individual who interfered with the war."
Uriel jumped in. "The one with those flashy green abilities, right? Man, I'd never thought our Fractals could ever evolve into something like that. Whoever that was, absolutely demolished the Invidians."
"Exactly. We've always kept our Fractals under control. What we witnessed there, I'd consider an anomaly. That person nearly caused 'Reed' levels of destruction." Michael pulled out a tablet and scrolled through some documents. "Throughout our near 50 years of reign, I don't see here a single Fractal listed in the database that resembles the description of those telekinetic-like abilities."
"But those descriptions do resemble something I've seen some people online talk about."
Uriel had brought interest to Michael. "What do they speak about?"
"Conspiracy posts, either as blogs or videos. They all talk about similar encounters with a person dressed in black, but with a green hue that subjugates the area. Their descriptions are really vague, other than one thing. Every encounter has always been with someone who was known to have a strong Fractal. People think this person is targeting specific individuals, so they all call the anomaly the Sin of Discrimination."
Michael rolled his eyes. All the other Overseers reacted similarly. They'd all had their fair share of dealing with individuals labeled 'Sins' in the past. Something like this was nothing new.
"This 'Sin of Discrimination' is violating our Melysia law. All Fractals must be listed. Considering the identity of this person, they must have a fake one recorded in-place to cover-up their true Fractal, because I don't see it here." Michael turned to the only other Overseer in the room who hadn't spoken yet. "Azrael. Do you see your task force to be suited in dealing with this kind of terrorism?"
Overseer Azrael, who sat in the darkest corner of the room, responded simply. "No."
"It's been 149 years since you've been summoned. In less than a year, you'll be returning to the Angelic Plane, won't you?"
He nodded in reply. Overseer Azrael, although in mortal form, was not human whatsoever. Over a century into the past when historical events erased-in-time occurred, Azrael, the Angel of Death, was summoned to the Mortal Plane through a contract that gave him 150 years to exist among the mortals. That contract was soon reaching its end, and when it did, he'd be returned to his home realm.
"Consider this to be your final mission for us." Michael saluted. "After this, your service with us could be considered finished."
"Dead, or alive?" Azrael asked.
Michael had no immediate response. He looked at both Uriel and Chamuel, as if all three of them decided on something coherently. "Attempt a capture-alive first. Creating a super-soldier out of that person could possibly prove useful, especially in your upcoming absence. But kill them if they prove to be equal-to or more-than 'Reed' levels of destruction. You've dealt with Reed Regardius in the past, so you should know the levels of his capabilities more than any of us. I trust that if you observe this 'Sin of Discrimination' to be a threat to the tranquility of Melysia, you'd bring them death."
"I will." Azrael stood up and left the room. He had already begun his hunt, leaving the remaining three Overseers to discourse.
"Well then that takes care of that flashy-green Sin," Uriel said.
"You're bringing back insatiable memories with that word, 'Sin'." Chamuel sighed. "Speaking of which, it's been quite some time since we've had to use the 'Sin of Wrath'."
"Reed. Let's stick to calling him by his name, Reed. I'm fed up with the label 'Sin.' And I'm not content with another upbringing of it through this anomaly."
"But imagine, Michael, the potential in power that both that anomaly and Reed would have combined. Nothing in the world would be able to stop us with the both of them under our control."
"Are you a child, Uriel? I'd honestly prefer the anomaly to end up dead. Reed is destructive enough alone. We don't need another clashing-catastrophe."
"Whatever you say."
The three Overseers quietly looked towards the dark corner Azrael had sat in, now empty.
"He'll soon be gone." Chamuel had cut the silence.
"This is his final task. After that, he's done more than enough for us." Michael thought back to the very first moment he'd met the Angel of Death. He'd never changed since then.
"Azrael already completed the task on his contract when we took back control from the Cardinal Nexus those decades ago. I'm surprised he didn't just return to the Angelic Plane then," Uriel said.
"I know why." Chamuel had recollection of his All-Knowing-Vision at the time. "He instead decided to spend his contract to its fullest. He chose to spend more time in the Mortal Plane, even if it was unnecessary for him."
"That seems unusual of him… Nonetheless, we'll honor his departure for sure," Michael said.
Uriel agreed. "In all honesty, he's been the most dependent out of any of us. I'll miss him."
After that, the remaining three Overseers parted ways back into their branches of Melysia's government. Now, there were multiple powers at play going on behind the scenes.
