Chapter 21 - Chapter 19

Shane

I wonder what Wiphas needs to discuss with the General in private. I nearly stumble over the next step. Curtis steadies me.

"Buddy, be careful."

Together we climb the last stairs to the second floor. While Curtis shows the rest of Wiphas Crew to their rooms. I walk directly to the one I know will always be my room. I feel safe here, this room and the whole Mansion is like a second home to me. I'm tired, and it's getting late. I open the wardrobe and select one of my favorite PJs. Stripping quickly out of my clothes, I walk into the adjoining bathroom. I take only a quick shower before I get ready to sleep. Walking back into my bedroom, I climb into the bed. I fall asleep as soon as my head hits my pillow.

-------

I wake up with a start. It's pitch black around me. Goosebumps rise over my skin, I feel like I'm watched. Scared, I hastily reach for the light. I press it, and nothing happens. I start to panic and continue pressing the button.

"It's futile" I hear someone say,

"You are mine."

I feel something grip me. It's cold, and where it touched me, I feel like that part freeze. I start to scream. But no sound leaves my mouth.

"I own your body and soul, including your voice. I am your new master. The struggle is futile," that voice says again and starts to laugh.

Hot tears trail down my cheeks. Something cold and wet lick my cheeks.

"Hmmm, Salty tears of despair are the best," the voice says happily,

"Only trumped by tears of pain."

I try to twist away, falling.

-------

I wake up when I hit the floor. Throughout the window, I can see both moons. I'm sweaty, and I shiver. My heart tries to gallop out of my chest, it was only a dream again. I try to calm my racing heart. I feel no longer safe here, getting up from the floor. I sit on the bed, staring out of the window.

I hear knocking and then.

"Shane, are you all right? I heard you whimpering, and then it sounded like you fell out of bed," Wiphas says behind the closed door.

Instead of answering him. I get up and run to the door. Throwing it open, I let myself fall into him. Holding him tight, the first sob starts to break free. My tears soak his shirt.

"Shhh, everything is alright. You are at home. You are safe," Wiphas calmy whispers into my ear.

Wiphas walks me backward and closes the door. My feet hit the bed, I sit down and rollover making room for him.

"Please… I don't want to be alone."

Glancing shyly up at Wiphas. Wiphas crawls in beside me and pulls my blanket over us before wrapping himself around me. Feeling safe, I drift off to sleep.
