Chapter 2 - Prologue

Shane

"Shane, honey, come here, we need to learn for your history test." My mother, Grace, shouts over the backyard.

I was sitting on my blanket under the tree, enjoying the soft sweet spring breeze while drawing the beautiful landscape you could see from our home on the hill.

The City of New London with its prominent skyscrapers, in front of the Microclimate domes, replicas of the St. James Park and Hyde Park, the first settlers bought over 110 years ago. Our government building a model of the famous Buckingham Palace, stood out in the otherwise futuristic landscape.

"Mom, just 10 more minutes, please. I'm nearly finished with my drawing."

"Young boy, do as your mother tells you and stop embarrassing me in front of my guests." Whispers my father to me while coming over from the patio.

"Okay, dad."

Mournfully I pack my art pencils back in their case and close my sketchbook I got to birthday. Putting everything in my bag, I stand up and run to my mother.

"Can I get to drawing after I learned, mother, please?"

"Shane, it's already getting late when we are finished with learning. It will be bedtime. You can draw as much as you like tomorrow after school." My mother admonished.

Unhappily I go inside with my mother to learn some stupid history.

If I only have known this was the last evening I had with her….
