As the reading coaching progressed, I discovered that I could now pronounce long words by carefully blending the syllables together.
"Now, try reading this," Jordan said, handing me a piece of paper. I eagerly took the paper and began to read aloud.
"When is your birthday?" I pronounced it confidently. Jordan clapped and lightly kissed my forehead.
"Let's continue," I said excited.
"No," Jordan chuckled.
"The Queen will be retiring early today. You should return to her chamber," Jordan informed me.
I stood up and quickly finished the remaining gourmet lemonade in my glass.
"Thank you, and my birthday is on the fourth of February," I replied, making my way towards the exit.
"Lia," Jordan called out, but I didn't turn back. I knew why he was calling—I was headed towards the wrong door. My intention was to go to my room and read my mom's letter.
