Chapter 42 - Chapter 42: The Era of Technology and Magic

(Seven Star Tournament — Day 5 — Stellar Sky Arena — 9:20 am — Hotel Car Park Entrance)

A truck drove up to the entrance of the hotel's parking arena. It was a check.

"Who are you and what are you here for?"

"We're from the Omani Weapons Company. We're here to supply the Seven Star Tournament with weapons and put some maintenance on them."

The driver said with a reassuring smile. He showed his ID to the man. The man read it closely, making sure that everything fit.

"Okay,"

He gave it back with a smile.

"And the other one?"

"Ah, you'll have to forgive her, she's a newbie. A few days ago, she lost her ID in a scuffle."

The woman looked out of the window and took off her hat so the man could see her face. She was a stunning woman with white hair and red eyes. The man blushed.

"O-oh, it's fine. It won't be a problem since you're only staying for a day. Go through."

The man raised the gate and the truck drove into the car park. They parked on the second level, two floors underneath the ground level.

The male employee turned the truck off.

"Now we're in,"

He said.

He took his hat off. The particles on his face faded, revealing his true face. He was Yuuji Kaido, the leader of NEXUS. He had a spell active on his face to hide his scars. Without them, he looked almost cute.

"What's up with that long hair, Mage Killer? You have a disguise spell?"

"Of course not,"

The white-haired woman said.

"It's just a wig. I'll be using this for the operation so that the authorities don't recognise me. Contacts would be a good thing too."

She muttered the last sentence to herself.

Their plan would take place on the final day of the events, which was tomorrow, after the final.

"So, when will you set up the bombs and where?"

Yui asked the man. He took out a screen, underneath the truck's AC and turned it on. It displayed a 4D map of both the interior of the hotels and the Stellar Sky Arena.

"We split the four buildings along with the arena into sections. The buildings go through Section B to J, While the arena is K to M. As soon as the final is over, we'll explode bombs in Section A which is the entrance we just passed."

Yui looked at the map, deciphering all of the red lines on it.

"So, you'll blow up section, A, B, E, H, K and L? Two for the arena?"

"The entrance will blow up first as a diversion and then we'll blow up the ones in the arena, then the ones in the hotel sections. In the anarchy, NEXUS will storm the place."

The woman peeked into the back of the truck. It was filled with weapons—guns and the like. No magic items or anything.

"Do you really think guns will be enough to deal with 175, or so, magicians? There'll also be Akari Chiori to deal with. You also hate magicians which is why you don't use magic items which could come in handy. Do you hate me?"

Yui said. Yuuji scoffed.

"No, I don't hate you, Mage Killer, since you kill magicians too. Magicians aren't the almighty beings they believe they are. They can't stop bullets. NEXUS is comprised of non-magicians. We want magicians gone. Black magicians are fine with us too."

"What you want is the foundation of society gone, isn't it? A place where magicians can't rule?"

She asked him while looking at his scarred face.

"Yes. Ever since the first appearance of mana and magicians, there have been multiple wars, including World War III. People have died and now it's the 22nd century—approximately 55% of the world's population are magicians. In this day and age, that would be around 4.345 billion people."

Yuuji clenched his fist while glaring out of the window.

"They took control of society. They turned it into the twisted place it is today."

"Oh, is that so?"

"What do you mean?"

Yui sighed and opened the window next to her, leaning against it.

"Because of the magicians, the crime rate of ordinary criminals has dropped drastically since the 2060s. Technically, they are the heroes of society."

"Yet the death rate has gone up since then. And I'm not only talking about the periods of war. I'm talking about now, the Era of Technology and Magic. Some of the magicians that you killed, like the Magician of Energy, were doing business with the other side."

Yui turned to the man with a perplexed look on her face. She didn't recognise a term that he mentioned.

"The other side?"

She repeated in a quizzical tone.

"The criminal underworld, Hell, the Abyss, the other side, the dark side, whatever you want to call it. What matters is that illegal acts happen there. Just like in the movies but worse."

She understood what he was talking about despite never watching any movies in her short life.

"But aren't you a syndicate?"

"No, we're a rights activist group. Or so, I say but that makes us sound cute."

The man chuckled.

"We're a terrorist group. Unlike syndicates, we're not involved with the other side. We didn't even get these weapons from the black market."

"Anyway, we should probably get started instead of idly chatting. I want this plan to succeed."

The man smiled. His face cleansed itself of its scars, making him almost unrecognisable. He put his hat back on.

"You're right,"

Loud cheers could be heard from the Stellar Sky Arena despite it being slightly further away from the car park.

"They're getting fired up, hm? We're underground and we can still hear them."

He pointed out.

Yui opened the door of the truck and jumped out.

"It's fine, let them have their moments of happiness. Tomorrow, it'll all fall into despair."

She went to the back of the truck. Yuuji watched her with a shaky smile.

"Uwah, scary."

He whispered.

'Ayato Kyouya...'

She remembered her goal. The person she had to kill.
