There was a man named John who applied for a lighthouse man position in his local area. The old lighthouse worker died after years of service, allowing John to take the position. John started the job immediately. He worked hard his first day, but then something strange appeared from the water when dusk came. He went down to the rocky cliff that bordered water to see what came up. In front of John stood a large dark green fish like creature. It was as tall as a house, with claws a long a man. Its long-webbed feet squished as it walked towards John. He looked up to see its large angler like face, a large yellow lantern dangled from its head. It looked down at John, huffing and puffing, before speaking.
"Who are you? You are not the old man?" it asked him.
"No I am John, I took over for the last lighthouse man, he recently passed away," John said to the fish thing nervously.
"Oh," it exclaimed
"Well then bring me a fish to eat," it then ordered.
"What?" John asked nervously.
"You heard me bring me a fish to eat," the giant creature said.
"But why, I mean you are so huge, couldn't you hunt one easily," John said.
"The last lighthouse man brought me a fish, now so must you," the creature said.
"I don't know if I can. I am pretty busy running the lighthouse," John said.
"Bring a fish by tomorrow at dusk or I shall sink one of the ships coming by the lighthouse," the creature then threatened. "You are greenhorn, so I will go hungry today, but tomorrow I wish so see a dead fish in front of the lighthouse."
Before John could respond the creature jumped back into the ocean. The next day John went out and caught a fish. He caught a tuna that got too close to the cliffs shore. He killed it and left it in front of the lighthouse. At dusk the tall fish creature came to light house and ate the dead tuna.
"Is it acceptable," John said nervously as he came up to the feasting creature.
"It is," It said. "Now bring me another one tomorrow."
"Wait what," John exclaimed, but the creature was done eating, and had already jumped back into the water.
"Do it or I'll destroy a ship," it said as it descended into the water.
The next day John went out a caught another fish, a local one that swims around the cliff shores. He killed it and left in front of the lighthouse. The creature returned, then ate the fish. Once finished it yelled at John.
"Tomorrow bring me another one or else," it said, then heading back into the murky waters.
So John did, and the next day, and the day after that, and so on, and so on. Each day he caught a fish, left it for the creature to eat. Each day it kept returning to eat the fish John caught for it. So many it ate: tunas, bait fish, marlins, local fish, an occasional shark, and John even was able to please the creature by leaving crustaceans as the meal instead of fish. This went on for months, until one day when the creature came to eat, it looked completely different. When John first saw it was tall and lanky, now it was tall and muscular. Its arms larger than battleship guns, with legs that would make tree trunks look puny.
"I see you brought me another one, excellent," It said, quickly eating the dead tuna.
"I did," John said. "But a long time ago I asked why a creature like you needed me to catch fish for you. Here you appear before me large and muscular. Surely you must tell me why you need me—a puny man compared to you—to catch fish for you."
"I guess it is time to tell you," the creature sighed.
"This body you see is what I truly look like. I come from a group of muscular fish like beings who live in the dark depths of the ocean. Many months ago, my mate was taken from be by a rival of my species. I always hated that blue lantern of his. He beat me, chained me and casted me out into the open waters. I floated around being carried by the current for a while until I landed at this lighthouse's cliffs shores. By then I was skinny and weak from almost starving to death. The lighthouse man before you, rescued me and fed me every day until I was well. Then you came along and I forced you to feed me, so that I could focus on training to beat my rival."
"Really, there are more of your kind," John said nervously.
"Yes, don't worry too much about it. However, now I must thank you. You and the other lighthouse man have allowed me to regain my strength. Today shall be the last day I ask for you to catch me a fish. I shall head back into the ocean's depth and fight my rival for my mate." The creature said, bowing before John.
The creature then jumped back into ocean. Days passed and John never saw the creature again. However, one day John saw on the news of a mysterious dead muscular fish like creature washing up on shore. It was all beaten up and mangled. John thought it was the creature he had met, until he saw it had a blue lantern dangling from the dead things head.
