Sitting in the waiting room Thomas tapped his foot incessantly. As the door to the mayor's office opened he was ushered in by Dell. Seeing the mayor sat at his desk in a faded black suit and short black hair he held out his hand gesturing to the chair on the other side of his desk.
Walking over to it Thomas grabbed the back and spun it. "You wouldn't notice it just by looking but this chair is just a bit shorter than yours so people have to look up at you when they sit. Smart, I used to do that so I'm comfortable standing thank you" Thomas said as he stood behind the seat.
"Well I can't make you sit now can I" Clinton chuckled. "As much as it clearly pains you to admit it this is a democracy after all, you can't really make me do much can you?" Thomas replied with a half smile.
"Now now yes this is a democracy so let's have a bit of diplomacy. Do you think it's in anyone's best interest to be funneling resources, time and energy into something that's already failed?" Clinton asked leaning back in his seat as he stared directly into Thomas's eyes.
"What's made you decide to do this Tom? After what happened last time you grieved and you were guilt ridden but you moved on so why the sudden change of heart? Why is this suddenly your life's mission again hmm?" Clinton asked leaning forward and resting his hands onto his desk.
"Look, yeah I had a crisis of confidence when Mike and Julia died. Yeah I did blame myself and you know what I still do, but just because that burden weighed heavily on me then doesn't mean i have to hide away and wait to starve to death now" he said gritting his teeth.
"I'm the mayor, you all selected me to lead you to a better tomorrow and yeah I entertained your silly little dream once but I can't be doing that again. Not this time! Shut it down. The Jaran government has not forgotten, they will come and get us!" Clinton said in an authoritative tone.
"When Clint?! When! Sorry I don't have the faith in the Jarans to win the war. A war we haven't heard anything about in over a decade by the way. As far as we all know they've all been wiped out and it's just us now, so how do you suggest we get out of here if that's the case huh?" Thomas asked as he placed his hands on the desk and stood over Clinton.
Rising to his feet Clinton towered over the Captain. "I've told you once and I am telling you again. You will not use my people to fulfill your little military fantasy shut this down or I will" Clinton said getting right in Thomas's face.
"You told me to stop it when I first proposed the idea years ago, didn't happen. You got your bill saying you could shut it down if something went wrong and unfortunately that did happen" Thomas said struggling to maintain eye contact.
Clenching his fists he cleared his throat and continued. "You can't keep people captive just because you're too much of a coward to stand and fight. We're getting out of here your free to come if you want no one's stopping you" Thomas said patting Clinton on the shoulder with a smirk. Heading out the door Thomas paced directly home.
Fists still clenched he charged straight into his house. Frantically removing his jacket he sat on the couch and held the jacket to his face to muffle his scream. "Tom?! You home?" Stacy said from the bedroom.
Caught off guard Tom slapped himself lightly. "Yes!" Thomas shouted back composing himself. "Oh, how was work?" Stacy said looking visibly bloated as she stepped out of the bedroom in her pajamas.
"It was alright" Thomas said standing up to help her to the couch. "Oh come on I'm not sick" Stacy replied as she giggling as she gingerly took a seat. "I know but I'm caring for both of you so let me be a little overprotective" Thomas said with a smile.
"So how was work actually?" Stacy asked watching Thomas going into the kitchen. "No work went great! Everything went as planned, people were cheering, it was a raging success" Thomas said as he poured two glasses of water.
"But?" Stacy asked leaving the word hanging in the air. "But...I got called into the principals office" Thomas replied as he sat down and handed Stacy her glass.
"Hmm?" Stacy asked between sips. "Clinton wanted to talk to me" Thomas replied. "Ugh" Stacy said into her glass. "Yeah...honey I'm not losing sight of anything right" Thomas said leaning back into his seat. "What do you mean?" Stacy asked sitting back and interlocking heir fingers.
"Nothing just something Clinton said got to me" he replied nonchalantly. "Ugh, he's a dumbass don't mind him" she replied passively. "Yeah I got you and the little one to think about" he said as he kissed her then her stomach.
