"You should go back to your father as well. Are you unhappy at home?"
Oliver argued, "Tommy is very happy here. He likes Aunt Emma, his sister, and he also likes Uncle."
"That's not what we meant." The Thomson family adults didn't know how to explain to a child.
"Tommy has his own dad and grandpa, both of whom love him very much."
"I only know that Aunt Emma loves Tommy, and Tommy loves her too." Oliver's eyes were firm and serious. "Why do you adults always treat my sister so well, but try so hard to send him away? You don't realize that when he plays with me, he's always worried he'll be abandoned. He even said that he's a 'burden,' and that our family doesn't like him. Despite his efforts to please everyone, why don't you like him? Is our family really short on money that we can't afford to raise a child?"
"Oliver." The Thomson family adults were at a loss for words.
They didn't know what to say, especially in the face of Oliver's questioning.
