First, they knocked on the doors of the two houses on the first floor, but no one was home. They went up to the second floor, and there was someone in one of the houses, but it was a large family, clearly not where Little Lucky was.
They reached the third floor, and Emma Smith knocked on the door, Robert Thomson followed her up, but still, no one opened the door. Emma was getting desperate: "Are you sure this is the place? What if that person fooled you?"
"He wouldn't dare! If he fools me, I'll make sure his whole family has nowhere to live!" Robert Thomson was angry as they went up another floor. Emma's legs had already reached their limit; by now, her left leg, which was injured from the fall, could barely move, and she had to hop. Seeing her struggling, Robert immediately asked, "Emma, do you need to rest for a bit?"
Since there were only six floors in the building, there was no elevator. Emma shook her head: "I want my daughter!"
