After taking Little Lucky away, she didn't go back to the Thomson family home but instead found a place outside to take the child.
For Little Thomson, she also found a nanny. After all, Little Thomson was her own granddaughter, and she wouldn't mistreat her. The little one cried for a long time until, eventually, exhausted from crying, she fell into a deep sleep.
Avery Clark wasn't a patient woman to begin with. She wanted to take Little Lucky back for three reasons: first, Little Lucky was her granddaughter; second, she didn't get along with Mrs. Smith and Emma Smith; and third, everyone in the Thomson family blamed her for the situation.
So, she intentionally took the child away. She did this to compete with Mrs. Smith and Emma Smith, and to make everyone in the Thomson family see that she, Avery Clark, was not to be trifled with!
