Since Robert Thomson had already left, on the surface, Emma Smith didn't seem to have any issues. She bought baby formula, small clothes and toys, a baby bathtub, talcum powder, bottle nipples, and diapers for the baby.
Mrs.Smith pulled items out of the shopping bags and shook her head: "Times have really changed; the things for babies are so expensive now."
As she spoke, she suddenly thought of something and quickly changed her stance: "But, for a child's things, it's better to spend more for peace of mind."
Emma knew her mother's words meant—she didn't want her daughter to face too much pressure. Now, without a job or much money and having to raise two children, Emma was finding it difficult.
"Mom, don't worry, I have some savings from these past years." Emma said, "Although the baby items are expensive, I want the best for my daughter."
