"The marriage engagement with the Martin family was actually canceled a few days ago when both families met."
"What?" The reporters were all taken aback.
"This is the first time I've disclosed this. Ultimately, the cancellation of the engagement was my fault."
He could stop there. The point was to lower his image a bit by taking responsibility for the cancellation.
Reporters were sharp and got the point quickly. The rest of the interview went fairly smoothly, lasting for about an hour. When it was time to leave, a reporter stood up: "Alright, Mr. Thomson, that's it for now. After the article is formatted in a couple of days, we'll send it to you for review."
Robert Thomson nodded: "Sounds good. I'll also put in a good word for you with your general manager."
The reporter was delighted, knowing that Robert knew their general manager. It was difficult to climb the ranks these days.
Both parties were satisfied with the negotiations and went their separate ways.
