"Oh, Mom's fine." Emma Smith smiled, and Thomas Smith said "Oh," as if he had thought of something, then asked, "I haven't seen Uncle Thomson all day today. Where did he go?"
It was fine until this was mentioned. When it did, Emma felt a suffocating feeling in her heart, both worried and uncomfortable.
She didn't know where Robert Thomson had gone. How did he have his dinner? Could he be in danger?
When he was around, sometimes she found him annoying, with a smile that seemed cheap, always sticking to her like a big dog, sometimes wishing to kick him away.
