Emma Smith and Thomas Smith stared blankly at the scene, still unable to react. The door opened, and a woman wearing a white sweater and with shoulder-length hair walked out: "Robert, Mrs. Smith, you're here?"
Apparently, this was the lady of the house, Charlotte Rodriguez.
Robert Thomson held Oliver and nodded slightly to his sister-in-law. His expression was very calm, without the past anticipation and unease he felt when facing her. He seemed exceptionally composed.
Perhaps, it was because he now had Emma and their child? Facing her, he felt no embarrassment.
As for Emma, after a moment of astonishment, she also greeted Charlotte with a smile: "Miss Rodriguez, hello."
Then, she nudged Thomas at her side: "Tommy, greet your aunt and older brother."
Thomas glanced at Charlotte Rodriguez, and obediently said, "Aunt."
He then looked at Oliver, who was still clinging to Robert. Presumably, this was the "older brother" his mother had mentioned.
