It wasn't until Thomas fell asleep for his afternoon nap, and Emma covered him with a small blanket, that Andrew finally spoke.
"Emma, you should break off contact with that man!"
He had thought about it all night; he truly loved Emma. He was heartbroken and angry about her "downfall," but he knew she wasn't in the wrong.
She had no money, and he had none either. This alone had already sentenced them to their "death penalty."
He couldn't help her; it was his own uselessness. If he had money, if he had those three hundred thousand, why would she have sold herself?
