Andrew nodded, picked up a piece of apple, and handed it to Thomas. Thomas took it and ate it in small bites.
"After cleaning up, you should sit down too." Andrew once again picked up a piece of apple, handing it to Emma.
Emma took the apple from Andrew's hand and sat down beside Thomas. When Thomas finished eating the apple in his hand, she took the toothpick from him, worried about injuring him, then passed him another piece of apple.
Andrew watched as Emma focused all her attention on Thomas, and felt a slight stir in his heart, but remained silent.
Outside the window, the rain continued to patter gently. The rain fell softly, making no sound as it hit the window. The streetlight outside cast a warm, yellow glow, providing the only source of light.
