Emma Smith glanced at her disdainfully and lost interest, slowly devouring the mousse cake in her hand.
Emma's silent contemptuous attitude infuriated Ella Martin, who yelled, "What's with this attitude!"
"Miss Martin," compared to Ella's frustration, Emma seemed much calmer. She finished the cake, poured herself a glass of champagne, and took a sip. After swallowing her food, she said, "I know you look down on me, but a woman like you might be even worse than me. You're so proactive, showing off your family background and your social status. What are you trying to prove? You're just begging for attention!"
"Look at yourself! How much capital do you actually have!" Emma said in one breath, "I earned Mr. Thomson's affection with my own merits, and what about you? Once you lose all those superficialities, you're worth nothing!"
