Ethan Martin watched her leave and then asked, "Are you going to the party tonight?"
Robert Thomson nodded: "Of course."
Ethan looked in the direction Emma Smith had left and raised his chin toward her, "Are you taking her?"
What he meant was, some of their classmates studying abroad had organized a small gathering tonight. Normally at such parties, if a man brought a woman, she would be his girlfriend or at least someone he was trying to pursue. It was a way of integrating her into his circle of friends.
Of course, there might also be casual bed-mates, but that kind of role was clearly not suitable for a man like Robert Thomson.
Robert was puzzled: "What are you talking about?"
Ethan immediately understood. Perhaps Robert did treat Emma differently, but that was all there was to it.
He didn't say anything, just stood up: "Alright, then."
