"Young master, Young master..."
The soft, urgent calls jolted Lucas awake from his slumber at the desk.
"Hmm?" Lucas opened his sleepy eyes. He could feel the warm breath of the caller on his cheek, carrying a faint fragrance mixed with the scent of pizza.
Alright. There was no need to guess—he knew exactly who it was. Besides the busty Ayesha, no one else would shake him so insistently.
"Aha~~"
Lucas sat up straight, yawning. He noticed something had slipped off his back and turned to see a robe. It seemed someone had covered him with it while he had dozed off at his desk.
"Ayesha? What's wrong?" Lucas turned his head to find Ayesha looking at him anxiously. Standing beside her were Helen, Mina, Annie, and also Nicole.
"What time is it?" Lucas asked softly, recalling that after the morning meeting with Aiden, he had been creating the city layout and must have fallen asleep in the process.
"Young master, it's four in the afternoon." Nicole replied gently.
"What's the urgent matter then?" Lucas stretched lazily and looked at Ayesha, who had a distressed expression, almost on the verge of tears.
"Young master, look at this," Ayesha said, holding out a rolled parchment. "It's a letter from my elder sister for you."
"Your elder sister? For me?" Lucas was puzzled. What was this about? A letter from Ayesha's mysterious elder sister?
He took the parchment from Ayesha and carefully unrolled it, scanning the contents with curiosity.
"Uh...," Ayesha seemed unsure how to begin, so Helen stepped in to explain.
Earlier that afternoon, after Ayesha and Helen had helped out at the orphanage and stopped by the pizza shop for a snack, they were on their way back to the castle when they were stopped by a bull-tribe beastkin. He handed Ayesha two rolled parchments and said one of them was for Lucas.
"Hmm? Ayesha, how did you know this parchment was from your elder sister?" Lucas asked a key question.
"Well, um…" Ayesha fidgeted a bit and whispered, "I saw the parchment my sister gave me. It mentioned why she was sending it to me."
"What did it say?" Lucas asked, intrigued.
"Ahem…" Annie, Mina, Helen, and Nicole suddenly coughed, their expressions oddly strained, their mouths twitching occasionally.
"Young master, it's nothing. Just read what my sister wrote," Ayesha said, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment as she added, "Please don't believe any strange things my sister might have written."
"Strange things?" Lucas raised an eyebrow, now even more curious. He untied the twine from around the parchment and unrolled it to read.
Parchment:
"I'm Bella, Ayesha's elder sister, a mountain bandit leader. I'm writing this letter to you with no particular agenda, just hoping you'll take good care of my silly little sister. I have some matters that require me to be away for a while, so don't let her come looking for me. I'll come back to find you once I'm done...
On a more serious note, if you and my silly little sister have shared a bed... Let me tell you, my sister's chest is... Also, if there are any children as a result—though I know you're a noble and might not think highly of beastkin offspring—remember to take care of them. I'll come back to take the child away later..."
"Cough, cough, cough..." Lucas choked on his breath after reading this. What on earth was this? Was this supposed to be serious?
Seeing Lucas's reaction, Ayesha couldn't help but smack her forehead. She could imagine what her mischievous elder sister had written—likely more crude remarks about intimate matters or comments on having children.
Ayesha was now tempted to challenge her sister to a duel, though she wasn't sure she could win. How was she supposed to face Lucas after this?
"Ayesha, your sister is really something else." Lucas finally understood the strange expressions on Mina and the others' faces. It was clear that Bella's letter had also included some peculiar comments.
"She's just a bit of a tease, always saying odd things," Ayesha said, shaking her head. Despite being embarrassed, she knew her sister had a knack for making such comments, even though she would blush at romantic novels.
"Did your sister Bella say where she's going?"
Lucas wondered about this. With winter approaching, where would Bella be headed? Could she really be a bandit, going off to rob people?
"No, she didn't say. She often keeps things from me," Ayesha said, showing a bit of disappointment. "I've always been a burden to her. Since leaving the beastkin kingdom, she's been taking care of me."
"Your sister is right; you are a bit of a silly girl," Lucas said with a faint smile, his dark eyes narrowing slightly. "Which older sister wouldn't look after her younger sibling? Once you grow up, it'll be your turn to take care of her."
"Grow up?" Ayesha glanced down at her chest, feeling a bit self-conscious.
This movement caught Annie's attention, causing her to suddenly turn her head away, mumbling, "How annoying, how annoying. She's definitely showing off…"
Lucas's eyes twitched. Why did Ayesha's thoughts always seem to be so different? When he said "grow up," he wasn't referring to her physical attributes.
"Smack." Mina lightly tapped Ayesha on the forehead with her palm and said exasperatedly, "Why think so much? You're still not grown up yet."
Ayesha puffed up her cheeks, covering her forehead and retorted, "Stop treating me like a child."
"Isn't it true? Who sneaks into the kitchen at night to steal food?" Mina said with a playful glint in her blue eyes.
"I— I was just hungry," Ayesha said, feeling a bit embarrassed.
"Only kids would sneak food." Mina managed to keep her laughter in check.
"Cough, cough, cough…" Annie suddenly coughed, which immediately drew Mina's eyes toward her.
"Mina, why are you looking at me like that? I definitely didn't sneak any buns," Annie took a step back, trying to maintain her composure. "Only Ayesha would sneak food."
"Is that so? No one snuck any buns?" Mina glanced at Helen, whose pale red eyes were now narrowed slightly. Mina said coolly, "That day, Helen said that anyone caught sneaking meat buns would have their bottom whipped."
"What?" Annie's mouth dropped open in shock, her brown eyes widening as she immediately covered her rear with her hands. "I absolutely did not sneak any."
"Annie, so you're the one who ate my special meat buns. Come here." Helen growled, her claws extended as she lunged toward the fox-eared girl.
"Ah." Annie screamed, and bolted.
Helen chased after her, shouting, "Don't run. Stop right there."
"Really…" Lucas shook his head with a smile, looking at the dazed Ayesha. He said softly, "Ayesha, there's a job that involves spending all day walking around the streets. Interested in giving it a try?"
"What is it? Is there food involved?"
"Patrol Squad Leader." Lucas announced with a playful grin.
