Chapter 199 - Chapter 197

Lucas walked out of the "Phoenix Medicine Herbs," glanced at the people still queuing for medical treatment, and couldn't help but shake his head and sigh, "It's fine if there's anything wrong, but having an illness is something else..."

He then hailed a cab and said, "To the Hamilton Railway Station."

"Sure! 60 dollars."

"Alright."

As Lucas watched the buildings outside quickly recede, he realized he was leaving the city. He was heading to a place in Hamilton county, where he had an appointment to discuss buying a house.

Soon, they arrived at Hamilton Railway Station. Lucas scanned his ticket and boarded the high-speed train, which departed on time.

Sitting in his seat on the train, Lucas's thoughts drifted. In the other world, he was a noble with a territory and a city, served by the gentle and understanding Nicole, along with a group of lively beastkin girls...

But on Earth, he was just an ordinary person with a bit of money. What was his life goal? To make money and wait to die? To become a slave to a mortgage? Or to engage in cutthroat business dealings? Perhaps travel and be squeezed among crowds?

Modern urban life has too many constraints. Even after leaving the other world for just a few hours, Lucas was already feeling a bit nostalgic and wanting to return.

"Hey, handsome, why are you daydreaming?"

A sudden female voice broke Lucas out of his reverie. He turned to see a girl around her twenties sitting next to him. If she could remove a few layers of makeup from her face, maybe he could give her a proper rating.

Lucas gave a polite nod and a faint smile, choosing not to speak. He had become somewhat numb to being approached by strangers while shopping, having encountered this often.

"My name is Tia. When I got on the train just now, I noticed you were daydreaming and thought I'd say hello." The girl said softly.

Tia had boarded the train at the last stop, and seeing a handsome guy with great clothes sitting next to her had prompted her to start a conversation.

"Hello!" Lucas responded with a polite nod and a gentle smile.

Tia could tell that Lucas wasn't particularly interested in engaging, so she gave a sheepish smile and decided not to press further.

She sighed inwardly, thinking how the guys she was interested in usually ignored her, while others who weren't her type would often bother her.

"Tia, I heard there are a lot of bamboo shoots in your hometown. I really love bamboo shoots."

"Yes! We're having a big celebration for my grandfather's birthday, and there will be a lot of dishes made with bamboo shoots. You can enjoy them to your heart's content." Tia replied, turning to chat with a colleague beside her.

"..."

Forty minutes later, Lucas arrived at his destination. After disembarking from the high-speed train, he hailed a taxi to the center of the county town. There, he met with the property owner to complete the paperwork and ended up spending over 600,000 dollars to purchase a house with some land.

Next, he went to a dealership and bought a small car worth around 30,000 dollars. He then headed to the outskirts of the county town, where the newly purchased house was located in a small mountain village.

The drive took about thirty minutes, and before reaching the village, Lucas saw a vast bamboo forest. The village was nestled within the bamboo, giving it a feel of a hidden paradise.

If this small mountain village were located next to a big city rather than a small county town, it might have already been eyed by real estate developers.

Upon entering the village and arriving at the house, Lucas saw that the stone walls surrounding it were quite impressive. After opening the gate and driving the car inside, he realized the house was indeed very spacious, resembling a traditional northern-style house. No wonder the previous owner was so adamant about the 600,000 dollar price.

Lucas inspected the house and began moving in some of the items he had bought. He chose a house with a cellar as his bedroom. As for why the room had a cellar?

He heard that the previous owner was an alcoholic who, in a somewhat naive attempt to emulate scenes from TV shows, had dug a cellar in the room to store wine. If it weren't for the excessive drinking that led to stomach cancer and the urgent need for money, he probably wouldn't have sold the house.

Lucas planned to renovate the cellar later and use it as a secret place for his cross-dimensional activities.

After setting everything up, Lucas decided to explore his new surroundings and get to know his neighbors. As he stepped out of the house and walked a short distance, he spotted Tia, the girl he'd met on the high-speed train, chatting with a group of middle-aged women. She looked surprised to see him.

"Hi! Handsome, we met again. Are you living in this mountain village too?" Tia greeted him eagerly.

"Yeah, I just moved here today." Lucas replied, equally surprised by the coincidence.

"Tia, is this handsome young man your boyfriend?" One of the middle-aged women asked.

"Auntie, don't say that." Tia responded, looking a bit embarrassed.

"Young man, what do you do for a living? Do you work for a state-owned enterprise like Tia?" Another woman inquired.

Lucas was momentarily confused by the sudden attention, feeling like he was on a blind date. However, he had already prepared an excuse for his job and answered casually, "I write online novels."

"Oh? Isn't that like Eren? He stays home all day claiming that writing novels can make money, staying up late and only making three or four hundred a month." Another woman remarked with a dismissive tone.

"Alright then, young man, keep at it." One of the women said as she pulled Tia away. "Let's go! Your grandfather's birthday party is about to start."

"Okay." Tia responded, losing interest in Lucas. She was familiar with the life of a novelist because her cousin, Eren, was one. It was a low-earning, hard working profession.

Lucas watched the group leave with a bemused expression, hearing their whispered comments as they walked away.

"Tia, stay away from him. Writing novels has no future; staying home all day..."

"Yes, no social circle at all. It's like Eren's life—pathetic. I heard he's even been kicked out by his mother to find a job."

"Well, at least he has a chance. Otherwise, staring at a computer screen all day—he's bound to go crazy..."

Lucas chuckled to himself. He realized he didn't need to investigate further. It was clear these people were his neighbors. Moreover, if he stayed indoors most of the time, they would assume he was just busy writing novels. This would effectively keep his real situation under wraps.

Lucas thought about the wild ginseng in his inner space and the multimillion-dollars bank card, a satisfied smile spreading across his face.

Write novels? Not a chance! He was a noble with beastkins maidens, after all.

He pulled out his phone and started placing orders on a shopping app, buying things he needed. With his new house, he could stockpile supplies extensively.

He also made a few calls, finally ready to purchase the Iron Man suit he had long coveted.

After finishing everything, Lucas returned to the house, locked the gate, and headed to the cellar. He was ready to cross over to the other world and enjoy a nice dinner there.
