Heading inside the mansion, there were servants that gave us towels on a tray, along with water.
Sigh.
After regaining Jessica's memories, I started to feel weird having servants around but at the same time, like Nera, I know this is normal since my life has been like this from the start.
Of course, it's been a year so I got used to living like a noble again. But I still try to act better around them from then on. I would also say thank you here and there, which surprised them at first but they just got used to it after a while.
"Oh, by the way, did you and father take a day off today?" I ask Noel before we could take a step inside our household.
"It's the weekend, have you forgotten?" Noel chuckles as he sees me staring at him blankly. "Although, we didn't see much of father either since he's always busy."
"You're right."
"Hey, are you keeping me from this sibling time?" Noah interrupts while he puts his head on Noel's shoulder and his arms around mine.
"You're not a sibling anyways, so it's fine."
"This...!"
"Noah, Nera, stop it!" Noel lightly shouts and glares at both of us.
Following his words but as we walk further inside, we kept making faces and mouthing foul words at each other until, my mother, Peryani, greets me with open arms and a wide grin. Noah acts as if he wasn't gesturing immature signs my way and promptly walked to his own room.
"It's been a while since you went out. How wonderful, my darling!" She hugs me, but upon feeling my sweaty clothes, she immediately retracts her arms. "Oh dear, change your clothes. We'll be in the dining room."
After dusting her turquoise-colored dress embedded with green and black embroidery, she then waves her hand and walks downstairs.
I nod and give a small bow, then walk into my room to put on new clothing.
Even as Nera, I disliked wearing corsets but was comfortable with flowy dresses that didn't restrict my movement whatsoever.
So, I tell the maids to not put a corset on me and choose a loose dress. Which they already know.
My mother, Peryani cu Ponterise, considered an important individual in high society because of her gorgeous looks and great intellect, is strict with what I wear most of the time, especially when going out.
But she gave me the freedom to not wear restricting clothing in the condition that we're inside the house and I just finished training.
Thank goddess she's flexible with clothes but still is stern with manners, which I often forget.
I go straight to the dining room after my hair and clothes got fixed, what greets me is the sight of my whole family already there.
My pupils shake a bit when I see them staring at me so intently as I walk inside the room, with their lips ranging from having a wide grin to a subtle smile.
I see my father and eldest brother who's always busy. Even the usually late Noah is here already. What's up with them today?
Subconsciously, my eyes look at the ground as I walk to my chair, due to the pair of eyes staring at me.
"Ehem, let's start eating." I fake cough and fix myself on my chair.
"...Right." My father gestures to the servants to ready the food with his hand and his other hand covers his mouth.
Why is he smiling though? Are they this happy I came out of my room and acted like my usual self?
I sigh and chuckle under my breath.
That's right, even though I already died as Jessica, my current family is as lovable as my previous one. Nothing can change that.
The servants start serving our food and place them on the table. It's been a while since I ate with them. The past year, I would have eaten in my room or sometimes, even in the library.
After a few minutes of quietly eating, my father breaks the silence.
"So, Nera, are you okay with missing it?"
"The what?" I tilt my head.
I see him stop slicing his steak to stare at me, dead in the eyes. "The Knight Exam."
I almost choke on my food and lightly cough. From the side of my eyes, I see my mother glare at me, but didn't pay her mind.
Shit, I became too caught up with my past life that I forgot the things that I worked hard for in this one.
"I am... It's my fault anyway."
I see him scrunch his eyebrows together, but after a sigh, he spoke, "Whatever you're going through, we'll always be here for you. You can still enter for this year's, or even the next. You've been training your whole life for this."
