Chapter 38 - WAR (4)

(A/N): I'm changing Jophiel to Dante, it just sounds better.

Adam and Diablo stood face to face with each other, an unnatural silence brewing between the two.

"Diablo!" Raphael uttered with scorn.

"Ah, Raphael. How long ago was it since we last saw?" His voice dripping with malice

"Not nearly long enough."

Diablo chuckled.

Adam, battered and exhausted immediately took a defensive stance, ready to face the demon king with all he had left.

"Such courage." Diablo mused.

"But I'm not so crude as to strike a man on deaths door, take a rest." He voiced.

Adam was still out of breath, having multiple fatal injuries yet to be treated. He knew he was too tired to do anything, and so dropped his guard.

He slumped to the ground, as his muscles relaxed, taking in the healing power of Raphael.

Diablo also relaxed, sitting legs crossed.

"So, you're God's brother? You don't look the part." he said, trying to mask his fatigue.

Raphael trembled, fearful of Diablo's reaction.

"It's always annoyed me how mortals see things. I'm not merely God's sibling. Ever considered calling Him the Devil's twin?" Diablo sneered.

This managed to get Adam to give a tired chuckle.

"Fair enough I suppose."

A moment of silence passed.

"So why?" Adam asked.

"Why what?"

"Why all this chaos and suffering?" Adam questioned.

"Mortal," Diablo replied.

"Your kind is yet to grow. When you do, you'll understand the pain of loss, the anger and hatred towards those you once called your own."

"Still, is it worth it?" Adam emphasized.

"Imagine if I killed your beloved." Diablo taunted

Albeit for a brief moment, Adam let his aura slip. An all-consuming wave of pressure swept the battlefield as the skies thundered in revolt. The entire world shook violently in that brief span, but the display already answered the question.

"Is that a threat?" Adam demanded.

"Depends."

"Depends on what?"

"On whether or not your worth my time, if not I see no reason for the existence of your race." Diablo answered with a sinister grin.

Adam calmed himself, knowing the threats were empty.

"So is that the hatred you bear?" Adam asked.

"No." Diablo growled.

"I harbor a thousand times more resentment for him than that."

Diablo rose, his body tenses, muscles coiling tightly as if ready to strike. His eyes narrow and burn with a fierce intensity, his jaw clenches, and his fists tighten, nails digging into his palms. His breathing becomes rapid and shallow, a hint of the rage boiling within him.

Sigh

"Enough of this charade." Diablo stated.

When were you going to stop pretending?"

Adam's look of shock was damn near palpable.

"You knew?"

"Of course, I realized you were healed quite some time ago." The demon revealed.

"So why didn't you attack?"

"Benevolence." Diablo replied.

"I wanted you at full strength. It's more satisfying. "Diablo spoke without a hint of uncertainty.

"Oh how lucky am I? To receive mercy from the king of demons himself."

Adam spoke with sarcasm.

Then there was another brief silence.

Adam stood up, having regained some power. He looked at his left arm, on top of which manifested a perfect silver circle, with ruins and pattern edged into it. Initially confused about what it was.

"Oh, it seems you've made a contract with someone." Diablo stated.

"Is that what this is?"

"Yes, though the mark only appears when the contract is activated, or when one desires to break it."

Contracts, though normally unbreakable unless mutually agreed upon can be breached by special cases. Such as possessing overwhelming power above the other individual, or if one of them no longer has the means to meet the needs of the agreement as a whole.

Adam's face darkened.

"I never wanted anything like this. She should have never been hurt." Adam admitted.

"So it was accidental? That means you made a promise with blood." Diablo noted with a hint of cruelty.

Proceeding that, Adam used a surge of power to resist the contracts effects. This energy forced itself upon the archaic circle, cracking it into pieces with immense force.

Raphael, moved away from their presence, knowing it was almost time. He could only provide healing aid from the background in a fight such as this.

"I'm ready to send you back to hell." Adam declared.

"Really? We'll see." Diablo responded with a dark chuckle.

'Raphael is going to be an annoyance. I could easily get rid of him, but this makes things much more interesting'

Diablo thought to himself.

Adam got into a battle stance, while Diablo stood there with both hands behind his back. Thus, so it began.

Adam launched at Diablo with a fierce jab to his jaw.

Sigh

Diablo left hand intercepted the strike, releasing multiple, massive shockwaves across the entire universe. Consecutively another fist was thrown towards Diablo's abdomen, having much more power than the former.

"I expected more."

The fist was immediately caught in his left palm again. Diablo lifted Adam effortlessly with one arm, swinging him kilometers away at incalculable speeds. The force alone carving up the planets surface into a massive crater that could be seen thousands of miles away.

Adam regained his footing, digging into the ground as he landed. He was shocked, even if the pattern was basic, no one should be able to react at those speeds to such attacks in quick succession.

"I have to end him, before he starts taking things seriously."

"Really? I thought you would be sending me to hell?"

Diablo was right behind Adam, his hand on his shoulder. His aura alone was suffocating, sending waves of force that if not properly controlled would destroy everything.

"Let's try to have some fun now, can't we?"

Adam couldn't speak, his breaths were in disoriented bursts and his body shaken. Sweat dripped down his skin as his heart felt as if it was about to explode.

For the first time since his creation, Adam was outclassed in a fight.

"Dammit."

He lunged away, turning and fiercely throwing an endless stream of attacks in quick succession, not giving even the slightest leeway for a counter attack.

His fists moved at incomprehensible speeds, his reflexes were sharpened to the limit but still. Each and every one of the innumerable blows were caught in the palm of a single hand, shockwave after shockwave the devastation continued.

Nearby planets and stars already began to crumble away into astral dust, further darkening creation. Many of the spectators were only alive because the two made conscious efforts to reduce the pressure on the actual battlefield, and instead disperse its full force into space.

Adam stopped, leaping backwards as he caught his breath.

"Congratulations, you managed to impress me mortal."

"I guess this is the power of the demon king." Adam acknowledged.

Diablo smirked, irritating Adam in every sense of the word. He was so relaxed it was insulting to say the least.

"Well, is that all?" He asked.

"I'm just getting started." Adam growled.

He rushed towards Diablo with a kick to the throat, which was intercepted again with his left hand. However Adam had accounted for that. Using the force of Diablo's grip to his advantage, Adam spun himself with another kick aimed for Diablo's skull.

However, it was still blocked, but this time by Diablo's right hand.

The kick was so rapid that Diablo was forced to use his other arm, slightly shocking him. Yet, Adam wasn't done.

Planting his arms on the ground, Adam twisted his entire body with enough force to flip Diablo to the floor in an instant. Slamming him down with so much force that the resulting earthquake ruptured the planets structure.

Diablo was awestruck.

"Remarkable, few can catch me off guard."

You see, he had never had an opportunity to train with anyone else at full power. Everyone else was below him in terms of strength and skill, excluding his own brother who wasn't interested in battle. So he had no other choice but to hone his skills by sparring with himself.

He'd move so fast that there'd be two versions of him at the same point, and they would train, improving upon each others flaws. But this sort of secluded training would lead to many innate flaws in his defenses being left unknown. Those which can be exploited by others with similar skill levels.

Adam pummeled Diablo as he was on the floor. Not wasting a single moment he kept punching Diablo in the face until his knuckles cracked. While the demon king lay there motionless, simply taking the brunt of the attacks to the head.

"Is it my turn now?" Diablo rasped.

BADUMP

BADUMP

Diablo smiled at Adam before striking him in the abdomen, rocketing him upwards with devastating force. The energy permeated through his body such that a hole ripped through Adams' body

Luckily Raphael was nearby, using his abilities to heal Adams' wounds.

"U-Ug-Ugh."

Adam was nearly knocked unconscious but managed to stay awake. Diablo though wasn't one to have mercy for too long. Following up his punch he leaped into the air, throwing a kick that could shatter the heavens at Adams' skull.

"Dammit!" Adam cursed weakly.

"You can't hide behind your allies forever!" Diablo taunted.

Using both his arms to defend against the blow, the impact shook the entire universe. Adam though was sent flying, both his arms broken into mangled pieces of flesh.

Crashing into one of the planets' moons the entire surface was broken apart. Diablo wasted no time, as he was already behind Adam. He then released his aura, creating a barrier 50km out in all directions.

"They're out of my range dammit!" Raphael yelled.

He flew at top speeds, before running into Diablo's barrier. Just touching it singed his body, but he could worry about himself later. Using every ounce of power he had left, he broke through it.

The intense aura stripped away his divine energy, he struggled in agony as his body began to break apart completely. Yet he still flew to the man's aid.

Diablo grabbed Adam by the throat, choking him and nearly breaking his neck. His claws began to draw blood before slamming the king into the moon even harder than before. The resounding force shattering the celestial body into pieces in an instant.

"It seems like the great Adam does have a limit." Diablo spouted mockingly.

'But if I'm being honest, he's around a third of my base power'

Someone broke through the barrier, and the next moment flying past Diablo was Raphael.

Using the hand of god he pulled Adam away from Diablo's torment.

Grabbing him and leaving the domain before collapsing to the floor. Raphael quickly used the last of his strength to heal Adam, his body gradually disintegrating into fragments.

Adam felt a soft sensation come over his body, realizing that Raphael was nearby he stood up hoping he was alright. Then he saw the horrors of war.

Raphael lay there, unmoving, his body ripped to shreds by the energy of chaos. His lower half had already succumb to to fragmenting, and it only worsened the more he used his powers.

Adam seeing this couldn't string together any thoughts, his emotions boiled in fury. Anger, sorrow, pain he felt it all.

Then the angel tried to move, before realizing that he'd lost his legs.

"I'm sorry I was too far away to help." He said weakly.

Then releasing his wings to rise.

"I'll make sure to stay close, don't worry."

Adams' eyes lit up with admiration. He knew such a gentle soul couldn't fall to the hands of evil. So, without hesitation he hit him on the back of the neck, knocking out the fatigued archangel and catching him.

The skies rumbled as Diablo began to descend.

"Did you forget about our fight?"

Then out of nowhere Chayyliel flew in, taking Raphael from Adam.

"Focus on the fight, we've got this." She said.

"Oi, did you think you could keep the big bad from us?"

Adam turned to the familiar rugged voice.

"And I brought backup as well." Chayyliel revealed before flying off.

"Right."

Kael placed his hand on Adam's shoulder.

"We'll distract him as long as we can, just gather enough energy to finish this." He spoke with a serious undertone.

Diablo fully descended before them, completely ecstatic on the thrill.

"Oh, so I see you brought some friends along. How cruel of you to use them as meat shields."

"SHUT UP!!!" Kael roared as he rushed in for an attack.

Gathering as much energy as he could into his right arm, he struck Diablo's chest. But the impact was completely nullified, not even seeming to affect the deity.

Instead, Kael was the one left harmed. His right arm was crushed due to the impact, clearly showing the difference in power.

Diablo looked at the warrior with disdain.

"Just because I am holding back doesn't mean I will tolerate such disrespect."

Kael leaped backwards, his body recoiling in fear.

"This is bad."

"Hell flame." Diablo spoke.

From his palm emerged black fire, the flames spreading outwards towards the warrior.

"Absolute Zero!" Aris yelled.

His cold Qi completely overtaking the flames and even trapping Diablo in the ice.

"You idiot! If those flames touched you there'd be nothing left." The Frostvale said.

Kael shuddered at the thought, and in response gave him a thumbs up. Making the royal question whether it was a fully grown man or child that came here.

"Cold Qi huh? It's a really interesting concept." Diablo began to speak while his body froze all over.

"You draw out all the energy present in an area, reducing the temperature and volume to nothing. In turn creating a point that would consume infinite energy to break free from due to the infinite density of the ice." He continued.

"Kael, Adam could easily break free from it, meaning he can as well." Aris deduced.

"Yeah, it's just a matter of when he will come out."

"But, there is a fatal floor in your execution. Only a single point is targeted due to your lack of power, meaning the resulting ice is much less durable."

The two mortals stepped back as the ice began to break.

"So all I have to do is break free from the target point, which is where I am standing right now. Infinite energy cancels out infinite density, but I still have more power in stock."

He said as the cage shattered into innumerable pieces.

They both readied themselves for the upcoming clash, but fate had other plans.

"Watch out something is coming!" Adam screamed.

In an incredible display, Azriel, the shadow knight rushed towards the two before they could even react. With both fists reeled back he gave both a gut punch that sent them flying across the battleground. Knocking out both without much effort.

"My liege, please do not waste your time on these insects. If Adam joins the other gods then our victory won't be assured."

"I suppose I lost sight of things, very well."

In the wake of Azriel was a fallen archangel; Araqiel.

His body was slumped over on his knees, both wings sliced off with feathers dotting the surrounding areas. Deep gashes covered his body as ethereal light emitted from the fragmenting bits. His head hung low as his eyes became lifeless.

The general had won his battle, but was always notorious for keeping his opponents alive as a mark of shame. Any that he did slaughter, he respected.

"I suppose that takes care of those nuisances."

Diablo aimed an energy blast at Araqiel, about to incinerate him. Adam rushed over, guarding his fallen comrade.

"You're always saving these weaklings, but who is going to save you boy?" Diablo said in a condescending tone.

His bloodlust erupted, encapsulating the battlefield, with a suffocating malevolent energy. An aura of death spread around Adam, causing even his resolve to falter for a moment.

'I can't let a monster like that continue to exist'

Adam then clenched his fist, his energy soaring to infinite heights as the his hair billowed in the aura. Every step he took shook creation as his power marveled all.

Diablo chuckled in delight, his madness for all to see. But then he sensed a disturbance in space-time.

"They're here."

Another portal opened up in the skies. From it came the saviours of the heavens. Landing on the planets surface all eyes were all them.

"My children, you have fought valiantly, and your service is much appreciated. But now, you must return home." The Lord commanded.

Out of the 60 million units that arrived, only 38 managed to survive. While the army of chaos was reduced to a few hundred thousand at best.

But not even a million units left the battlefield. They defied the Lords orders for the first time.

"Father." Chayyliel spoke.

She had Raphael in hand, completely battered from warfare.

"Is he alright?" Dante asked.

"He'll be fine, he just needs rest." The Lord responded.

Outstretching his arm, and healing the archangel. But he didn't replenish his internal energy, as every last bit of power was required for this battle.

"My brothers and sisters will not retreat like cowards. We want to see this through." She revealed.

Sigh

Knowing they didn't have the time to pointlessly argue Michael spoke up.

"Very well, but do know that nothing will be held back during this fight."

"Thank you." She said before taking Raphael to rest.

Then a massive presence arrived, a demon with the might similar to that of a general.

His body was muscular and massive, towering over the celestials. His outer skin was covered with a layer of tough, impenetrable armor. It's colour, a deep, unnatural hue of red. His head was adorned with two large hammer like horns on opposite ends, and his eyes glowed with a yellow hue. His tail was large, armed with a pointed tip; his fingers adorned with claws that could slice through any armor.

This was Kronos, the strongest demon matriarch with an outer shell that was considered indestructible. Any attack directed at it would instantly be absorbed, and instead used to boost the durability and strength of his body. With such an ability, he could have easily usurped Diol of his position amongst the generals of Chaos. However, he refused the rank multiple times. Never thinking he was worthy of such a position.

"Oh gracious father, let me show you the strength of your creation." The Matriarch proclaimed.

Diablo could feel the immense pressure of the archangel, but he could also tell that Kronos was there. Immediately realizing the difference in power.

'Kronos, your loyalty is unmatched, and it saddens me to know this, but your defeat is nigh'

Diablo revealed.

Michael stepped forward. His long, golden, hair cascaded down his back. The front of his hair was styled with miniature spikes that resembled a crown while the rest remains loose and spread out.

His jawline was chiseled, with high cheekbones and expressive deep blue eyes. His lashes were thick, long, and golden framing his eyes. The armor he adorns is an ornate combination of steel and gold, with intricate patterns all throughout. Providing protection to his body, it also has sharp angular edges with a polished finish.

His sword had a slim, long, golden blade. Its grip was covered in a black fabric, while its guard was shortened and slightly curved.

"I'll handle this quickly." Michael stated.

"Oh, so I see you want to die fir-"

Before Kronos could finish his body began to disintegrate into infinitesimal pieces.

Michael sheathed back his blade as the giant fell to his knees.

"How grateful am I? To be bested by such a marvelous technique." He said.

"What is your name warrior?" Kronos asked.

"Michael." He replied.

"Thank you Michael, for such a glorious death."

Energy can neither be created or destroyed. That is the founding principle on which modern science is built, however it is blatantly incorrect. When Qi particles of the same spin collide at a specific angle, it stimulates the abyss of non-existence to create a new particle.

(A/N): Remember everything came from nothing, and the technique is about get complicated.

When Michael drew his blade, his total energy was split into a ratio of 1 and 99. The two portions are multiplied by themselves, which creates an increment that is added to the initial energy. The process repeats itself an unlimited amount of times within a single frame, granting him infinite energy. The energy flows to his blade, distorting the space between it and the opponent such that the distance is zero, giving him irrelevant speed. The best part is that there is no limit to how many times it can be performed, as the initial energy is always replenished by the created one.

This is the true marvel of heavens greatest warrior. The Limitless Strike of Archangel Michael.

"Let's end this."

Adam lunged at Diablo with his omnipotent fist, catching the distracted deity of guard. He struck Diablo in the middle of his chest, the force alone causing the demon's eyes to go blank while he was sent back with a resounding shockwave that shattered the entire planet into chunks of rock.

"U-Ug-Ugh."

Diablo couldn't process the impact as he stood motionless on a mountain sized platform. The strike left a deep wound in the demon kings chest, a weakness to be exploited. Following Adam's attack were the two swordsmen of the heavens.

Michael drew his blade, cutting through Diablo's chest an innumerable amount of times, further deepening the wound, and allowing for a fatal blow. Dante activated the flaming sword, using the fires to slice through the demon's chest one last time with an ethereal display of light.

"I can't lose like this!" Diablo muttered, barely conscious.

He began to regain composure, preparing to counter strike.

"IT'S OVEEEEEEEER!!!"

Dante roared as he stabbed his blade right through Diablo's chest, the flames burning through and piercing through his spine.

*AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH*

Diablo roared in agony, before his body went limp as the entire battlefield fell silent.
