"Let's go and greet Mom," Edwards said softly, his voice a welcome balm after the sharp intensity of the conversation. He reached out, gently lifting Karen into his arms. The little boy stirred, murmuring sleepily before resting his head on Edwards' shoulder. It was such a simple gesture, yet it filled Edwards with a warmth he hadn't known he was missing. With his other hand, he took Annabelle's, squeezing gently, reassuringly.
