Sherly's mind raced, but she kept her composure. She had to think fast, to weave a story that wouldn't arouse suspicion. "Vin here is my friend," she said smoothly, her smile never faltering. "Don't you remember him? This beautiful lady happens to be a friend of his. I just met her and complimented her beauty. Right?"
Vin, sensing the importance of playing along, nodded immediately. "Yeah," he said, his voice steady. But before the conversation could continue, little Karen, who had been quietly observing everything from Vin's side, began to squirm with excitement. He wanted to be free, to explore, and Vin couldn't hold him back any longer.
Karen wriggled out of Vin's grasp and bolted towards Edwards, his tiny legs moving as fast as they could. "Uncle! Uncle!" he cried out, his arms spread wide for a hug, his face beaming with pure joy.
