Chereads / This Protagonist Is A Bit Sick! / Chapter 8 - Sleeping Over

Chapter 8 - Sleeping Over

Liu Xun has just finished taking a hot bath and changed into new pajamas prepared by the well-fed Ji Yan.

To summarize, he agreed to stay at the little protagonist's place mainly because he didn't dare to wander around at night in the forest.

Speaking of which, Wan Yu's courtyard was neither big nor small. The room was rather simple as he recently moved in not long ago.

There was a wooden bed, a desk, a chair, a bookshelf, and a window. A round table was placed in the middle to have meals and tea.

Liu Xun shifted his gaze onto the little protagonist who carried another pillow to put on the bed.

"Sorry, Xu ge. I only have one blanket so we have to share them tonight."

Hearing this, Liu Xun suggested, "How about I go crash at Ji Yan's place?"

His words were said out of good intentions but unexpectedly, the little protagonist became sullen, "Are you mad at me for lying about being hurt and tricking you into carrying me back?"

After putting down this question, the other side didn't even wait for Liu Xun's answer and continued with a sad smile, "Well, just like what Shizun said... It was not like I broke a leg so I shouldn't have made a fuss about such a trivial injury. I must have been annoying to you. No wonder, you got along just fine with Yan ge but not me. That's fine, I understand."

Liu Xun: "..." Kid, what did you truly understand?

Liu Xun was so speechless that he wanted to applaud him for his tea performance.

As expected of the male protagonist, even at such a young age, his belly was full of black water!

If there were to be a third person in this room, Liu Xun would get pointed and berated as a scum bullying such a lovely child!

Smiling through the pain, Liu Xun spoke up, "You are thinking too much. I am merely afraid of bothering you."

The little protagonist immediately came back to life and a smile of relief graced his beautiful face, "That's great. I thought you were avoiding me on purpose."

Liu Xun's scalp went numb at his seemingly innocent complaint. On the surface though, he still plastered a smile and reassured, "How can that possibly be?"

"Then even after you have finished taking all of the medicine, will it be okay for me to go look for you?"

Liu Xun's smile stiffened. He tried his best not to be too obvious, "Why are you so keen on staying with me?"

At this question, the little protagonist meekly lowered his head and replied in a small voice, "... Because we are similar."

"We are not."

Wan Yu's fake smile froze the moment he heard the other side's unusually firm voice as if wanting to draw a clear line between them.

Is he finally revealing his true face now?

At the thought of this, Wan Yu slowly lifted his head to look at the person before him.

Despite having a badly scarred face that could make small children cry, his pair of peach-blossom eyes seemed to be full of light and stars.

His shoulder-length hair leisurely fell alongside his face blocking the burned area on his right cheek making him appear even more approachable and carefree.

As always, a smile hung over his lips showing off his two rows of pearly white teeth.

Wan Yu listened to him speaking with utmost certainty and confidence, "Remember, you are not alone. You have a reliable Master and Senior Brothers by your side. Rather than dwell on those who are unimportant, it is better to think about yourself and those who actually matter to you."

"The rocks they throw at you, don't let them hit you."

Wan Yu's eyes quivered at these words. His fists that were hiding under the sleeves were tightly clenched making his knuckles turn white.

The one he is speaking to... Is the current Wan Yu or the previous one?

Wan Yu's eyes darkened, and his expression turned frosty. He coldly laughed in his heart.

It was easier said than done especially when you were not the party involved.

How can anyone other than him know how much pain and torture had he gone through in his previous life?

Xiao Xu, this person obviously knows nothing.

How dare he have the nerve to say these words to his face?

Liu Xun was totally oblivious to the looming threat that lingered right in front of him.

Seeing that the little protagonist simply stared at him without saying anything, he felt a bit embarrassed and lightly coughed, "If you don't know how to dodge, just use your Master as a shield. He is tough so surely he can block them well!"

Wan Yu: "..."

Does this person consider his Shizun as an item that should be taken out whenever he faces troubles?

All of a sudden, Wan Yu suddenly felt a bit ridiculous about assuming that this fool had seen through his facade a long time ago.

Slightly tilting his head, he casually asked, "Will Xu ge help me block them too?"

Wan Yu thought that Xiao Xu would continue with his righteous character but to his surprise, the latter didn't even hesitate to shake his head.

Liu Xun gave him an unbelievable look and reasoned with the little ancestor, "Look at me. If I were to be hit a few more times, I would die right away."

Wan Yu: "..."

What a joke. Wan Yu is the male protagonist who is destined to achieve great success in the future and together with his wife, the couple will roam the world leaving behind a lot of legacies for the next generation.

What is he? A tragic villain who is destined to die miserably by the male protagonist's hand!

Combing through Wu Jing's memories, there is not a single scene in which he gets to relax and enjoy his fame!

It was one abuse after another, an endless loop of beating!

Why not hugging the male protagonist's thigh, you ask?

To be honest, he wanted to but look at this sly kid! How much worse will he become in the future?!

Even the female protagonist needed to go through life-and-death experiences multiple times to gain the trust of the male protagonist.

Liu Xun was not sure that he could survive the catastrophe as a villain and received the male protagonist's recognition.

He had already made up his mind to never interact with the little protagonist again after he finished with his medicine.

But it would be too hurtful to say these words out loud to a seven-year-old child so Liu Xun swiftly changed the topic, "You sleep on the inside."

Wan Yu was aware of him wanting to stop their conversation but he said nothing and quietly climbed on the bed.

He didn't sleep right away and took out a book to read instead.

Upon seeing the little protagonist pull out a book to read instead of going to sleep like a child his age, Liu Xun secretly praised him for being hardworking despite already being hailed as a one-in-a-million-year genius.

"What are you reading?"

Wan Yu didn't hide and lightly answered, "Basic Sword manual."

Liu Xun took a glimpse of the content and saw an illustration of a man displaying a certain set of moves with some explanations on the side.

"You know how to read?"

The question was too sudden and made Liu Xun subconsciously nod his head without processing the information beforehand. Only after he finished this action did he come back to his senses and couldn't wait to slap himself.

Liu Xun hurriedly found an explanation, "A few years ago, I was fortunate enough to meet a kind-hearted scholar and he taught me how to write and read."

"Oh, Xu ge must have been really smart to be able to read these complicated words in such a short time."

Liu Xun awkwardly smiled, "You are flattering me. Aren't you even younger than me?"

The little protagonist shook his head and softly sighed, "I was exposed to books from an early age and learned from a proper teacher so in comparison to you, I am really lacking."

Liu Xun: "..."

Liu Xun felt that the more he talked the more mistake he made. In the end, he lifted the corner of the blanket and lay flat on the bed.

Right before he closed his eyes, he turned his head to the side and smiled, "I am going to sleep now. Good night."

Wan Yu's actions of flipping the page abruptly paused. So far, the only person who wished him a good night was his late mother.

Ever since she passed away, he has never heard someone say this word to him again.

It took Wan Yu several seconds to respond in a low voice, "... Good night."

Liu Xun was satisfied and finally closed his eyes. He thought that he might not be able to sleep since it was still quite early but thanks to the medicine and the softness of the bed, he was knocked out cold not long after.

On the sideline, Wan Yu was amazed at how fast he could fall asleep with a stranger beside him.

He had developed a cautious nature and even set up an enchantment around his courtyard in case there was an intruder.

The original purpose of having Xiao Xu here was to test whether he would notice something wrong or not.

The enchantment was set to trap the enemy. Unless they broke the core of the formation or the owner deactivated it, they couldn't get out.

Wan Yu had already prepared an answer once Xiao Xu asked about the enchantment but after looking around he didn't ask anything.

It was either he was clueless about formations or he trusted him not to do anything.

Staring at that peaceful sleeping face, Wan Yu was in deep thought.

Is Xiao Xu really just a simpleteton or is he hiding too deep?

Should he let him be or...

Just as Wan Yu thought of another drastic measure, the rustling sound of the clothes was suddenly heard followed by a slight shake of the bed.

Originally, the blanket was covered up to his chest but Liu Xu turned to lay sideways and pulled the blanket higher until it reached his chin.

Wan Yu silently watched the blanket leave his legs and noticed that the other person strayed closer to the middle of the bed unknowingly.

He said nothing and slightly moved away. Changing the book, he resumed his reading.

However, this night was bound not to be peaceful for Wan Yu.

Roughly after the time it took to burn a stick of incense passed, Wan Yu felt the other side stirred in his sleep once again.

Taking his eyes off the book, he glanced sideways to see that person still with his eyes closed stretched out his right hand, and kept touching the bed randomly as if searching for something.

Once his right hand couldn't find the thing he was looking for, he frowned and moved closer to the inner side of the bed.

Not long after, his right hand accidentally touched Wan Yu's pillow. He proceeded to grab it and used it as his body pillow with a satisfied smile on his face.

Wan Yu: "..."

As if it was not enough, Liu Xun suddenly kicked the blanket away and stretched his right leg that was pressing on the pillow causing Wan Yu to quickly dodge by bending his legs.

Wan Yu flattened his mouth and disgustingly kicked that annoying leg away. He moved away once again only to have his shoulder bump into the wall.

Wan Yu: "..."

At some point, Liu Xun owned the entire bed, and Wan Yu was forced to huddle in a corner.

Wan Yu started to question himself as to why he invited trouble into his room and made things hard for himself.

Since he was in no mood to read anymore, he decided that he might as well go to sleep.

Laying down on his back, Wan Yu used his right hand as a pillow and simply closed his eyes.

He hadn't fallen asleep yet when the other side started to move again.

As it turned out, after kicking away the blanket, Liu Xun became cold and grabbed the blanket to recover himself and changed his sleeping posture along the way.

Wan Yu who suffered from insomnia unconsciously gave an almost inaudible sigh while still having his eyes closed.

Just as he thought that it was finally over, all of a sudden, a leg was put directly on top of his body.

Wan Yu immediately snapped his eyes open and kicked the leg away. He sat up straight and glared at this annoying thing.

Had it not been due to his status as a patient Wan Yu would have kicked him down the bed or struck his sleeping acupuncture by now.

Never again would he share the same bed as this guy! Wan Yu thought begrudgingly.

Regardless, the night was long and Wan Yu continued to suffer silently.

Morning arrived and Liu Xun stirred in his sleep due to the sound of birds chirping. A few moments later, he finally arose from his sleep.

He gave a lazy stretch with a smile on his face.

Ah. What a good rest.

Liu Xun groggily turned to look at the little protagonist only to see that the bed was empty.

Just as he was wondering where was he, the door suddenly opened, and Wan Yu walked in expressionlessly.

Seeing him come back covered in sweat, Liu Xun asked in surprise, "Did you just come back from your sword practice?"

Wan Yu simply issued a small Mn in return before closing the door intending to go and take a bath.

Noticing his lack of spirit and bloodshot eyes, Liu Xun asked in puzzlement, "You didn't sleep well last night?"

Wan Yu: "..."
