"But Blaze was certain she was not human..." the man muttered absently.
"My prince, I could tell that she was a normal human from a mile away," Roxy, the man's royal assistant insisted.
'Blaze is never wrong,' he wanted to add but kept quiet and dazed out the window as he mused. His wolf was a pureblood lycan and his mate-finding ability was not supposed to be faulty, moreover, his Siren side didn't have any objections.
He rolled up the window and sat back, relaxing his head on the seat headrest. His eyebrows pulled taunt as he frowned. "Roxanne, I want you to find out everything about her and do so quickly," he ordered.
"Yes, my prince." The red-handed royal assistant sitting in the front passenger seat bowed slightly and then powered the iPad on her lap. They were in a foreign country but no place on earth lacked werewolves and she already knew the ones here which only makes her work easy.
" Get moving," the man said, addressing the driver.
He had a meeting with the minister of this City but because of the delay, he would be late for their first physical meeting. He didn't expect to find his mate here since he was told he wouldn't meet her in the next ten years. At least that was what his trusted witches told him.
He was the second prince of Thornheart kingdom, his name was Kian Thornheart. He hailed from a kingdom full of lycans. They only had a few humans living among them that were mated to lycans or trusted.
All members of his family were pureblood lycans like him. However, he was a stain on their pristine royal image; he was the only tribrid in his family. His unique biology made him the offspring of three supernatural species, a combination that was unheard of in his family's line. As a result, a portion of them viewed him as an outsider and outcast.
During the ride to the government house, all he could think of was how he ruined his first meeting with his mate. He has never been adept at words, which was why he remained silent most of the time.
Even if he was given a second chance, he feared he might still ruin it. The problem was that his mate was human. He was happy when his wolf told him that she was supernatural so he hoped that the mate bond would make things easier for him, how wrong he was...
Breanna looked back as she hurriedly headed to her shared office. Every time she turned, the one she thought was following her wasn't but she couldn't shake off the feeling of being watched. Her heart rate was increasing, as she felt that someone was observing her every move. She was feeling more and more anxious as the feeling of being watched became more intense.
The encounter with the strange man wasn't as scary as she made it look probably because the man was devilishly handsome but his demeanor and confidence resembled that of her ex who was one of the worst things that has ever happened to her.
She sighed in relief as she dropped her things on her desk after shutting the door. She was finally in the confines of her office where no one could enter without being spotted. The chances of her getting killed or kidnapped were slim. She smiled with that silly thought in her head.
The door of her small office suddenly opened and she jerked in shock, but then her shoulders relaxed as she recognized the person, she instantly frowned and looked away from the girl walking in. However, she couldn't ignore her for long as the girl went round her desk and sat in her chair.
Breanna crossed her arms over her underbust, asking, "What do you want, Tiffany?"
Tiffany crossed her legs and waggled a file for Breanna to see. Although she acted cheeky, she didn't look very excited. " Anthony gave me the same case that he gave you. He doesn't deem you fit to handle it on your own," she said with a bored expression that was hiding the anger she was feeling.
Breanna raised a brow and grinned lopsidedly. "So tell me, what did you do to warrant this punishment?"
Tiffany wanted to lie but the thought of her predicament weakened her. "I complained about his fucked up attitude to his face," she retorted with a pout. She realized that confronting him was probably not the best idea, but her emotions had taken over.
Breanna's cheeks puffed up before she burst into mocking laughter. "You, Tiffany Johnson, confronted the boss about his attitude? Have you looked in the mirror? " She shook her head, her expression still incredulous as she added, "You really have some nerve."
Tiffany huffed and glared at Breanna before dumping the file on the desk. "Laugh all you want, you weren't the one getting constantly harassed by Anthony so you wouldn't understand!"
Her response snatched the smile from Breanna's face. She quietly sat on the only chair before her desk and stared intently at Tiffany. "You were harassed by him?" she asked again as if the latter was speaking Latin when she told her.
Tiffany balled her eyes and scoffed. " It is almost impossible to believe, isn't it? Tiffany Johnson, the office hottie doesn't want to get in the boss' pants. " She gave Breanna a bombastic side glance then looked away, pouting.
Unbelievable as it may sound, Tiffany wanted nothing to do with the office politics of workplace flirting.
Breanna was taken aback by the revelation, as Tiffany addressed herself, she was the firm's hottie. She was always sexily dressed and wore the best perfumes that got heads turning. However, for some reason, she didn't get any cases even after working there for two months before Breanna arrived.
" Why don't you report him to human resources? I heard the man is fair and reports everything to Mr. Lawrence," Breanna asked. The owner of their prestigious firm still involved himself in the affairs of the company. This made Breanna wonder why Tiffany hadn't complained about the harassment she was getting.
"First of all, Mr. Lawrence isn't in the country right now and Anthony's approach isn't direct. Only a fellow woman would understand his actions, others would see them as politeness," Tiffany sighed.
"A polite person wouldn't give two newbie lawyers a rape case to deal with," Breanna sneered. " I won't lie, I don't like you. We have shared an office for barely a week and we are always fighting but I think we need to put our differences aside to fight this common enemy."
"Are you about to suggest what I think you are?" Tiffany smirked mischievously. "I can hardly contain my excitement," she added.
"Yeah," Breanna smirked back. "Let's win this case and tell him who is in charge."
"Never thought I'd say this but I can't wait to work with you, Breanna Johnson," Tiffany said with her hand outstretched and Breanna received it with hers.
"To make Anthony pay," she said and Tiffany repeated her exact words, sealing their agreement. It was a plan they both could agree on, she nodded in satisfaction.
