Chapter 5 - Chapter 5 - Cliffhanger

"Aniki! I'll save you!" Audren hurriedly pulled Murata to his feet.

'But I don't understand…how can a classless go through an awakening…'

'Unless…'

In games, there is a specific character that is only meant for testing out mechanics and new updates. Usually, these characters' stats are regularly tweaked to test physics of the game and make sure that everything is working how it should be. Audren is one of those characters. Specifically, he's the character that's used as a template for all other characters. He has the maximum stat limit, or an all-stat.

'So that's why! He's Class: Zero! Not classless!'

[[Bug identified. Nerfs have already been implemented.]]

Murata frowned as he was pulled up to his feet. Wasn't the system supposed to be helping him? He wiped the blood off of his lips, not being able to help a smirk forming on his face.

"Audren."

Audren turned towards him, "Yes aniki?"

Just then, Murata jumped on Audren's back, patting him on the shoulder while Audren just stood there with a dumbfounded expression on his face.

"You're my chariot now. Go."

"Ah-uhh…okay!"

Audren bolted away from the stampede, easily outspeeding the horde of the creatures. Wind brushed up against Murata's face whilst he began thinking up a plan. A multitude of scenarios ran through his head, a skill he gained due to being an experienced player. He turned to look back at the stampede, analyzing the environment.

'I got it!'

"Audren! Stop right here!"

Audren stamped both of his feet onto the ground, sliding across the ground until his momentum died. Murata leaped off from Audren's shoulder towards the distant stampede. Using [Stringing], he swiftly set up multiple barriers of his green stringing using the trees, the finished result reminiscent of a spider's webs. Murata huffed, landing next to Audren.

'I used most of mana up for that move. I only have enough to keep it up now….'

Murata took in a deep breath, "Here they come."

The thunderous rumbling of the approaching stampede grew increasingly louder, and the individual shapes of the charging beats began to become more clear. As they made contact with the first barrier, it stretched in attempt to try and hold the stampede back, nearly taking the tree with them. Murata could tell that the barriers weren't going to last long, but the original plan wasn't to hold them back anyways. The way the distribution system worked in Solace, was no matter if you were in a party or not, experience and items were distributed depending on who or whatever did damage. Players with the most damage would get more experience and better items, and players with the least damage would get less. However.

This also applies to beasts.

[You assisted in killing a male boar. You gained 733 experience points.]

[You assisted in killing an Elk. You gained 787 experience points.]

[You assisted in killing a male bull. You gained 880 experience points.]

Using their own stampede as a way to farm experience. Truly a feat of the wits of a veteran player.

[[Your level has risen twice.]]

"Jackpot!"

[[Murata]]

[[Level: 6]]

[[Status Points (SP): 10]]

Immediately, Murata distributed both of his stats into Intelligence and Wisdom.

[[Intelligence: 5.86 ------> 10.86]]

[[Wisdom: 10.3 ------> 15.3]]

In an instant, he could already feel the effects of his increased stats, mana coursing throughout his body. With the increase of his intelligence stat, his strings were now much powerful than they were before. Of course, that still wouldn't be enough to stop the stampede. Murata swiftly jumped back on Audren's back, patting him on the back twice.

"Go! The barriers won't hold them for long!"

Audren nodded, shooting forwards once again. The stampede quickly followed after them, having broken through the last of the barriers with little difficulty. After about a minute of running, they would both suddenly come across a massive cliff, causing Audren to stop right in his tracks.

"Audren! Jump!"

Audren froze, shakily turning towards Murata, "W-What?"

"Come on! There's no time to waste!"

Murata hopped off of Audren's back and grabbed him by the arm, preparing to jump off with him. But Audren implanted himself in the ground and refused to go any further.

"No! I don't want to…" Audren was visibly frightened.

Murata turned towards him with a confused expression.

'Is he scared of heights?'

In the background, the stampede was beginning to catch up and would trample them under their feet any minute now. Audren still had his feet in the ground, on the brink of tears. At this point, it was pretty obvious that Audren was deathly afraid of heights.

Murata released Audren, "Alright fine then. I won't make you jump off if you're that scared."

"Really?"

Murata smiled at Audren with a poker face, suddenly grabbing him by the collar and jumping off of the cliff before he could react.

"I lied."

Audren screamed in pure terror and fear as he tumbled through the air, unable to control himself. Meanwhile, Murata was falling with leisure, his face still plastered with that poker expression. Just then, the stampede came falling off of the cliff, flopping through the air uncontrollably.

"Just as planned!"

[Stringing]

Swiftly, Murata grabbed Audren with his green stringing. using his other hand to shoot out and attach his stringing to the mountainside. And so, just as planned, most of the stampede were now falling towards their death. Murata looked down at Audren, who was clinging onto his stringing for dear life.

"You didn't pee your pants, did you?"
