Dusk was fast approaching. The eerie ambience of the gloomy sky sparked with lightening. She quaked at the spark, eyes widely opening from shock. The blended hue of emerald and grey of her eyes diluted at the threatening and menacing sky. It was about to rain but the latter's brother was yet to come home.
"Where is this boy?" She whispered in frustration. The sound of the cars and motorbikes racing along the street pulled her attention to a bakery standing adjacent the pawnshop she stood before. A flash of a memory zapped the insides of her brain.
"Sister, I want Miss Gouldenbecks' cheese pie." Her brother pleaded, eyes puffing like those of a cute dog.
"Oh no. You just had one last night." She said with a smile.
"But I haven't had one today. It's so nice." Her brother probed further.
"No Kyle. No more pie. Now get ready for school." The disappointed boy bent his head low muttering something under breath.
She starred at the bakery shop with an odd look and shortly heaved a deep sigh. In the bakery, Kyle could be seen seated on the counter munching unto a large pie. His large eyes shone with greed and fascination as he savored every bite of the delicious pie.
"Kyle!" His big sister shouted from the door, suddenly startled, the former dropped the half-eaten pie and starred nervously at his sister as though caught red handed in a crime.
"Sister I can explain." His small voice pleaded.
"Didn't I tell you no more pie?" She stomped towards him.
"Oh Tezznin dear, Kyle here passed by after school and since I know he loves my pie, I thought to give him one." Miss Gouldenbecks explained with her usual enchanting smile.
"Thank you mam but I strictly prohibited him for m having anymore pie."
"Oh dear, I am so sorry. I didn't know about that but it's no big deal if the boy has one, is it?"
"Fine." Tezznin gave in. "I won't tell mom about this, but you sure are grounded by me." Kyle's face fell. He got down from the counter and angrily grabbed his bag from a table nearby and stomped out of the bakery shop. "Hey! Young man, come back here." She called after the him.
Kyle paid no heed to his sister while he kept taking thunderous steps forward. "Kyle stop!" she called after him, running to catch up with the angry boy. The sky rumbled in warning, darkness engulfing it greedily. This time, it started to drizzle. Tezznin looked up into the angry sky and formed a deep frown on her face. Looking down, Kyle had suddenly disappeared from sight.
"Kyle! Kyle!" She called, feeling a sudden wave of nervousness and fear washing over her. "Kyle!"
........
Her drenched form trailed without coordination along the street. Her stubborn- hearted brother was currently playing one of his silly hide and seek games with her. After a long period of a disenchanting search, the worry stricken soul felt a hard lump graze her throat as she swallowed. She was certainly in trouble. Where could that boy be? Her frown deepened. It was now raining heavily and the boy was nowhere to be found. She could not go home. No. Not without her annoying brother. The misty forest was of ahead where she was heading. The boy was nowhere along the street and she could not think of anywhere else he could be. He could not have gone into the misty forest, could he? She shook her head at the thought but something within insisted she go there. Oh boy, this better be worth it. She thought to herself with a shrug of her shoulders.
In the forest, the atmosphere was ponderingly silent. The rain oddly limited at its entrance. How strange. She thought at the strange phenomenon. The warm breeze hit her wet body sending a sudden coldness over her. She flinched and caressed her arms tenderly. Her wet hair sticking to her face. A few meters ahead laid the blue lake and it brought back memories to her. Eliot had disappeared from her life here in this very forest and it pricked her heart at the thought of how long it had been since.
"Two years." She whispered to herself with a sad smile. Upon reaching the lake, she froze, eyes zeroing into dots at the view of the suspending body of her brother in the lake. "Kyle!" she ran to him immediately, scurrying within the cold water until she reached him. His back was facing upwards and the strange thing was that he was not immersed in the water as it seemed but his body rather seemed to levitate. Shocked was written all over her face as she cautiously tried to touch is unmoving body.
"Kyle can you hear?" Her voice trembled. "Kyle please." She cried, pulling his heavy form to the edge of the lake. "Hey. I'm here Kyle. Please wake up." She pleaded, cupping his face and slapping his cheeks lightly. "Kyle." She shouted, shaking the unconscious boy aggressively. "Wake up." She checked for a heartbeat. He was breathing but why was he not waking up? Suddenly, his eyes shot open. His iris being shaded with a deep shade of blue. The black in them had disappeared as the blue spread fully.
His lips parted and he began to speak but the words did not play out as expected but rather played telepathically. Shock and fear engulfed the girl.
"My heart screams without ceasing. It screams for help. Tormented day and night by the wretchedness of my very own deeds. Free me Tezznin. Free me." The boy's possessed form said I anguish. She flinched and drew back from the now trembling body of the boy as his irises turned back to their usual color.
