Vol didn't waste the opportunity. He lunged at the man stumbling to his feet. He was in a half crouch, having lost his shield, and was just about to straighten his spear and point its tip towards Vol. Before he could, his axe burrowed its way into the back of the man's neck. He felt a stabbing resistance from the spine. The man fell in an instant.
Two spear points found Vol's shield once more. They rebounded off the wood. Gods, he was glad that he'd paid Moesh for it, despite emptying nearly his entire purse in the process.
There was another loud crash, as Borne bellowed, and charged the undefended side of the remaining two soldiers. Just like their comrade before them, they'd directed all their attention on Vol, leaving the burly foreigner with all the opportunity he needed.
He charged them with his shoulder behind his shield, not bothering to risk a swing of his axe.
